This was so encouraging to me. I too have been a homemaker for over 37 years now. We homeschool and are still doing that with our youngest kids. This is my 30th year of homeschooling. We do many of the same things to save money as you all did/do. I find it so special that you want to be close to your mama and sisters. All of ours but one live within two hours of us. It’s so good to see another mama from “my time” on here. (Not going to lie, my time has been long, but it has been the greatest thing I have ever done! ❤️)

Not sure if anyone answered, but that thing under the first teapot is to put a tea light to help keep the tea hot ✨️ tea lights last for a lot longer than I personally thought. But I have tea set that has one of those as well and I use tealights

The first linen was a pretty machine made placemat. Second is a floral hankie. Third is an Asian machine made placemat. The 4th is handmade lace. 5 is machine made. 6th is 70’s silky knit with machine lace sewed on. Next one is handmade cutwork embroidery….

Thank you for this video I’ve been a full time stay at home/homeschool mom for 4yrs now. Also my husband care taker. He has always been the provider since it was important for both of us for me to stay home more so now that he is disabled. We live off of his disability which is wayyy less. We live frugal as much as possible to make it work. What has been challenging about it is that in both of our family this is not norm. They all work and kids go to school. We have gotten backlash for it.

Good morning! My mom & grandma were the same way.. they kept the sink full Of soapy water & washed as they cooked. I've always done the same, if i don't have a dishwasher. If I do i rinse & load as i go. And I'm always wiping the stove & counters too. I used to go to yard sales when my kids were little, and i also had yard sales to sale the things they had outgrown g used that money towards new things. I go to thrift stores & yard sales for my grandkids. Planning to go this weekend or next to try & find some things for my 3 & 5yr old grands get live with me. I love thrifting as you know! For all the things😉 I loved hanging laundry out when i first started homemaking. I don't do it now, but i should. I love my sheets hung out! My grandma didn't own a dryer, they actually had the old timey wringer washer until i was probably 8-10yrs old! My mom hung out laundry until i was probably a young teen.I just can't take the heat in the summer tho🥵 And I don't like jeans or towels hung out, the get too stiff.🤷‍♀️ At my grandmas there was no can food, except maybe Campbell soup. My grandad was A farmer all his life, the only job he ever had & raised 11 kids as a farmer! They had fields in both sides & behind the house. They had A little country store across the road with another field beside it. They grew pretty much every veggie & sold so of produce. So all summer we were picking, shelling, canning, freezing.. they had apple & pear trees, & red, purple & green grapes. So there were lots of jellies, jams & preserves. The had several freezers & a large jelly cabinet and the were full til the next year! We at what was grown! The got all other essentials from the little store & did a to every 2-4wks just for meats. We ate good girl! And yes I miss it desperately😔 At Grandmas There was no AC! Windows stayed up with fans in the windows that drew air thru the house. I loved my childhood.. and wish my kids would have had that same opportunity! I certainly didn't miss out! We didn't do vacations until my brother came home from Vietnam & started driving a truck, making decent money. He'd take Mr & mom to the mountains every fall. My mom & dad divorced when i was 4. My dad would get with friends & their kids & we'd go camping at the beach. In middle school my sister & her husband bought a big camper & we'd go to the beach with them. My brother & sister were teens when i was born, so a bit older than me. I love you moms values! I always loved having my kids with me! I didn't go places they couldn't go. I did have to with so my mom kept them for me to work until they started school.. and i was very thankful! My mom never once had a sitter for me, i always stayed with my grandma, or sometimes i went to my dads which lived with my other grandma. I lived in my moms backyard until my youngest was 8, then we bought land & moved to the country. My sister lived next door to my mom for years. Until she bought land in the country. I enjoyed the video, love sharing childhood years & how we lived. Those were special times! I pray you have a blessed week 🙏🏻

Your childhood sounds like the one we are giving our kids. Lol They are always with us. We thrift as much as possible. I've hung laundry. My kids help with everything. The one thing I'm wanting to do with my boys now is teach them how to cook. I always love hearing from moms who have done this before us. And before technology was so huge. I agree about losing those key things more and more. I am going to be teaching our kids how to budget this year. I have one child who refuses to spend his money and tries to save every dollar he gets. Lol

My mother sewed all our clothes, so we only went shopping for shoes and underwear. She hung all our clothes on a line, although she had a dryer, but rarely used it. She kept a beautiful home that was envied by all. She would DIY when needed, hand made gifts, cooked from scratch. Growing up, I always felt so lucky. We were not rich, but were blessed!! It was nice seeing you there with Mikaila. I think Mom has installed a lot of her good tips into us girls to pass on. I'm so glad she did. I'm always teaching everyone I'm around how to do those very same things she taught us. Love you sis and oldest niece!

Girl! Preach!! You truly hit the nail on the head…these thrift stores were given these items for free! It definitely feels the like the original intention for thrift stores is being lost. We have a church thrift store in our area, that VERY obviously knows exactly what they have and they price accordingly. On rare occasions I have purchased some pricier items there…but most of the time I just walk out. I love the shelf and the trivet (I could use more of those!), all the old books AND the hymnal. ❤ Great haul!! Oh my goodness! Thank you for the shoutout!! ❤❤ I can’t wait to see how you incorporate the book pages into your decor!!

I love making as many thing homemade as I can too. I was doing laundry soap but we have a high efficiency washer and couldn’t continue to use it. I too had trouble with a good homemade dishwasher soap. But I make body butter, body lotion, soap and chapstick❤

Many years ago there used to be a home improvement chain called National Lumber. There was a sign when you walked in the doors there that said something to the effect of it being a working warehouse - there would be loud beeping, forklifts, sawdust, etc - it was not a perfectly groomed store. That was the gist of it anyway - the exact wording is long lost in a ditch somewhere along memory lane in my mind. I've always thought there should be a similar sign in my house. "This is an actual working house, it is not a model home. Despite regular efforts to keep it clean, there will be cat hair on everything. There will be some splatters on the stove from the multitude of meals cooked daily and there will be a few dirty dishes in the sink most of the time, even after all dishes have been done. There will be laundry needing to be folded, cleared horizontal surfaces will remain so for approximately 2 minutes only. People live here."

Great finds, I’d love to find an estate sale that boxed item up! The Cookie jar is a vintage California ceramics green fruit with apple knob. The marking, on the bottom says Calif on the left side & USA on the right. Enjoy it! I have my grandmothers vintage cookie jar & it means a lot to me & makes me smile!

The prices are amazing! The Corelle set was a really good price. The pyrex glass pan was a great find. It does look like part of a double boiler. I have never seen one before, and I have been to tons of estate sales for many years. Pyrex is expensive where I live in Texas. The picture and the frame is beautiful and a terrific price. The prices on the lamps was a steal. You did really good! I think your house is going to be so pretty with all your thrifted finds.

You found so many good items and for such a reasonable price! For the pretty plates I have styled on a hutch standing up, put a plate hanger and can hang on wall. I have also used some in middle of table with a pitcher of flowers or a candle it kinda elevates it. I have used teapots in a vinyette. I have one for fall. I was hoping to put a picture here, but I couldn't figure out how to do it. I hope you have a great day. Look forward to your next video hope you can show us how you styled some of the items.

Utility bills in our area have skyrocketed so I think that’s part of the reason for increased prices. You found some great items!

I think the divided green plate is a veggie tray & maybe had a bowl to set in the center for dip. The clear flower plate with little feet looks like my mom's vintage cake plate. It has a silver cake cover that fits into the groove on top. Very pretty items!
