Sorry, I had to go and see how much it would be 🫣 I think that’s the first step of making a dream a reality is to check how far you are from it - and then start saving for it. And if you really want it some year, I assume December would be the best time to get it, because this year on the 6th you get a 40% discount! Sadly the green one has now only smooth ones left, but of course I don’t know which kind of texture you would prefer. I have the black one with 30mm gold rings… so if you would like to try it someday to make sure the size is okay… I just don’t now know/remember if you are in Finland - I just assume from your username… Thanks for sharing your dream 🙏🏻

@@Katiplans Well, I have other ring planners already, so even though I want the VDS, I'm not in need of one. :) That's why I think it's safe to just keep on assuming the price would be too much for me. :D Though now that you mentioned the discount... I'm not trying to enable 🫣 Do not buy things you can't afford! But the 40% discount is a very good one - so I'm just saying that would be the right time to buy if you would decide to get it. But I think they have something similar every year, so if not now, maybe next year. I also have to remember this now for my future VDS wants and needs 😅

P.S. I didn't like my VDS Touch Me in the beginning. It took time to get accustomed to the floppiness and in the personal size I didn't get used to it and had my own stiffener in the back pocket to give it structure. If you haven't seen my previous VDS videos, I would recommend watching those, so you can make an informed buying decision. @@Katiplans Thanks! Yeah, I did go and check the price now, and I think it's still too much even with the discount at this point in time, and I am happy with my current Filofax Saffiano (well, the ring size is too small, but other than that), so I will keep admiring other people's VDS planners. :)

Well - the stalogy is easy to use for something else, or five years later, if you end up buying a 5 year journal instead. But I could imagine that the stalogy is better if you want to start right away and not at the first of January. Also you can use the stalogy first and get the 5 year journal later if you are then still tempted 😅 I'm just pondering if I should start keeping my daily journal in a stalogy... This year I have monthly pages so one month per spread, but last year I had four weeks on one spread because I didn't have enough boxes to fit 31 days on a page, but I kinda enjoyed having always full week views. But in that case I will need 13 spreads for one year... How are you planning to make it?

I’m not saying that all Moterm covers have problems, but I can’t affort and are not interested taking the risk. I rather save my money for something where I can trust the quality is okay.

Thank you for commenting 🙏🏻 Others have used a leather cleaner or heat to be able to wipe it off. When I have the opportunity, I will try heat first because I don't have a leather cleaner. I'm so sad to realize how widespread the problem is and I'm not sure yet if it really is just something we need to deal with veg tan leather or if there is some other problem as Moterm themselves say. It's all a bit confusing to me.

Thank your for commenting 🙏🏻 I have to admit I like your theory / explanation, but I have a few hesitations / questions about it. 1) Is bloom / Spue also sticky? 2) If it would be natural oils, why wouldn't Moterm say so? (It would sound so much better than poor storing conditions and glue residue.) 3) Why would the natural oils only surface from the seams? 4) And why would have this (natural oils) problem surfaced only now although there has been Moterm products for years? I so want to believe your theory, but those above mentioned points make me doubt it...

@ Hi again 🙋🏻‍♀️ I forgot to say before that I really enjoy your channel and videos 🥰 So in regards to your questions: Yes, bloom tends to feel gummy, waxy or sticky. It can also feel powdery but that’s not the case here. As to why Moterm didn’t say that, my guess is that they don’t know. Remember, they’re a overseas company making mass market leather goods and those who are answering customer emails (or the company as a whole for that matter) probably don’t have a lot of knowledge about fine leather craftsmanship. That doesn’t mean they’re bad, I’ve had bloom show up on a Gillio, it’s just the nature of leather. As to where it shows up, that’s hit or miss, it can show up anywhere. My guess is that when planners are touched it’s typically on the larger surfaces (front, back and spine) so those parts get continually massaged. No one really spends any time handling the seams though so the bloom cools and sits there and gets noticed. And to your last question: it’s probably showing up now because Moterm veg tan leather is fairly recent. Before there was only the pressed pebbled variety on Amazon which has been around longer (I bought my first in (2019). Those are pretty much bomb proof, most of the leather’s natural qualities are gone because their highly chemically processed. The vegetable tanning process is very different from those, maybe Moterm hasn’t quite figured that out. So, yeah I think that’s what’s going on, and if it is, it’s not something harmful (like mold would be) but it’s also not something a manufacturer can predict ahead of time. It’s just the nature of the product and to avoid it one would have to stick to highly processed chemical blasted leather or the vegan marketed non leather. Gosh, sorry for writing a whole novel here, I’ll shut up now, hopefully at least some of this helped 😄😄 Christine

I was going to post the same thing. You can use a leather cleaner and conditioner kit to fix it.

I have to admit I'm a bit confused by all of this now 😅 I think I now first need to treat my grapefruit and see if I get rid of the whiteness and stickiness. After that I will decide my next steps. But I think no matter if this problem is natural or warehouse conditions, I will have to stand to my decision not to buy Moterms anymore. I rather invest in an other brand where I can be sure to enjoy the product, because there is still the smell problem, which I don't think has a solution. If I don't enjoy the smell of the Moterm leathers, it's better to avoid them.

@@Katiplans You’re very welcome and Thank You for putting up with my long winded post 😄😄 Yes try the hairdryer on it to melt to oils back in, or heat and buff it off with a soft cloth ( like an old t shirt). And I agree with you 100%, if you’re going to spend your hard earned money on something, then it has to make you happy. And it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks or says because they don’t have to live with it, look at it or handle it every day. There are plenty of brands out there to choose from. And I remember your video when you unboxed your plum pocket, you were so cute and excited. I hope you find something to replace it that brings you the same joy as you had in that video 🥰

Thank you for commenting 🙏🏻 I had one Moterm cover in the past that I couldn't stand at all. I tried all the tricks and even kept it out on the balcony, but nothing helped to reduce the strong smell. That made me discard Moterm back then, but now I wanted to give them a second chance with the new veg tan leather - but apparently I shouldn't have done it. Now I know better. If smells are a problem, you better stay away from Moterm...

for reference mine is in the Honey. And My Moxie Dreams mentioned it being on her Black Moterm covers as well in her last video.

So this seems to be a more common problem than I thought it would be and I'm so sad to hear that. I so hope that the problem is solved once and for all if you do the heat treatment once, but only time will tell that. Thank you for commenting 🙏🏻

For me the situation is though very clear and I'm not interested in Moterms anymore, because there are better options out there. That's a good point about coating. But whatever it is, the smell is not pleasant to my nose. And I kinda never expected high quality leather, but assuming from the popularity of Moterm, I assumed to get at least something usable and I feel like I didn't get that. I'm also dreaming of a VDS custom someday, but as you say - it is an investment 😅

I don't want to but it's the right thing to do. I probably will also try the blow dryer tip now that I have been able to catch on video what is wrong with the planner. Maybe it could still become a storage binder if I get rid of the stickiness 🤞🏻 An expensive storage binder but even that is better than nothing...

Oh, I'm intrigued and have so many questions... But those flyleafs aren't only made out of leather. There clearly is also something else inside. But you claim that the leather itself had woven fibers... that's wild. One explanation could be that they use so poor quality leather that they add something to it in the process to make it more durable. It would had been interesting to disassemble that Moterm... I once dismantled a filofax to see how it was build and why it didn't lay flat 😅

I wish I could love the Moterms like so many do. There is nothing wrong with the planner build quality. I love the pocket setup, size and fly leaf - and I wish the leather would be tolerable to me from the smell perspective - but I had issues with the smells also with the Moterm pebbled leathers in the past and I was hoping it would be different with this veg tan leather - but now I know better and it's time for me to move on. And of course I hope that the glue problem is now solved, but only time can tell that. I think now that I have made this video I can take my blow dryer and try to fix the issue. I'm maybe just worried that I loose it and ruin the whole thing 😅 That's why I wanted to make this video first. And it doesn't feel good to start fixing a hundred euro planner but in the end it's not worth that much anymore so I might as well do it.

@ Well if you can’t use it, then we have to do something so that’s why I just tried. So far no white has come back, maybe there was too much glue usage and it was excess - who knows! I just used the same renapur leather conditioner that I have for my tns and it does make it darker a little. Some people prefer to use some other cleaning sprays or stuff made for purses because it can change the feel of the leather if you put too much. It’s like lotioning up your leather skin 😅

I got one comment that it could only be natural oils, but I'm hesitant to believe that, because why wouldn't Moterm had said so themselves. For me that would have sounded so much better than what they actually said. From one comment I learned that My Moxie Dreams has also mentioned in their latest video a similar issue with their black Moterm. I haven't had yet time to watch that video.

Oh no, My Moxie Dreams latest video is about stickers and it's long, so I don't know if I can watch it 😅 Sticker talk is not my jam at all. But if you do, I would love a time stamp where she mentions the Moterm problem, if she does it in that video.

@ the mini or the slim to carry in my bag for appointments, but I might settle for a packet of the stickers or sticky notes with the same illustrations. I’m trying to minimise the number of planners/notebooks I purchase and focus on using what I have at the moment. After seeing your flip through I did wonder if maybe I should have skipped the Hobonichi weeks this year and bought the same dog one as you or the A6 instead of the weeks. The weeks is my main workhorse. I’ve used it five years in a row. It’s still great but I can feel myself getting bored or something. I’m not sure what the feeling is, just unsatisfied perhaps? 🤔 I’ve bought one now, but it’s not delivered yet. So I guess I’ll see how I feel when it arrives.

Oh, you did find the stickers and sticky notes 😍 I didn't but that was probably good 😅 I think it also depends on what kind of pens you like to use and how your new Weeks deals with those... I have now decided just to avoid all Tomoe River paper products - Sanzen or not - because I just prefer other papers over it. I'm feeling the FOMO but I need to stay true to myself although I would then miss out on some planners... Luckily there are a lot of options out there - and I do like to try new planners and search for something that truly feels like me - and not let the hype dictate my decisions. Not to say that you can't love the Weeks. I just am very easily influenced by what others like or love and then I assume I should love it too... So for my 2025 lineup I went to search for things on the web and bought things that I was interested in. Taking no influence from anyone else. And I'm so excited about my finds 🥰 And that I finally gave in and bought the dog Midori 😅 I'm not trying to influence you to do anything else than to look for the answers inside you. I think that's the best place to look 😌 P.S. Okay I bought something out of FOMO and regret it, so that was a good reminder to stick to my own truth.

@@Katiplans that’s great advice! I am trying to let the FOMO come and go. I know The Weeks will still do a great job, even if I’m not as excited about it as I used to be. I’m the opposite regarding tomoe river paper…I love it! I’m happy to use the MD paper as well, but I prefer TR paper. I am a little concerned that the Sanzen will not be to my preferences, but I will survive. 😅

But now I need to try to forget about that so I don’t get any ideas to buy more 😅 They are just too cute and I love the MD paper so I just would like to buy all sizes 😂 Since you have history of buying the same planner every year - do you recall do the pictures change every year?

@ I was just able to check and they’re totally different each year! I compared 3 years worth and they all have different covers, month colors, and bird/plants. They’re so pretty. I noticed they weren’t selling the full range at Vanness here in the US. I had to order from Amazon Japan when I placed a small order earlier in the month. I hope they don’t phase them out.

I was planning to use the monthlies to track my UA-cam videos - I remembered that idea while editing the video 😅 Because I used the mini diaries for that and I don’t have one for next year. I think I prefer dated because then I can do it whenever. With undated I have the problem if I fall of the wagon, I kinda can’t continue because I want to do it chronologically, but catching up can feel so overwhelming that I stop doing it althogether. So let’s hope this dated system works now better for me. With photos I can see that the space could end up being a problem. There probably isn’t one perfect solution 😅 We just need to find what works best for what we want to do and accomplish now. And with dated - I don’t mind empty days or weeks. I assume that is also one reason why some don’t like dated because of the pressure to fill it totally.

@ Yes good points! I am so used to photo memory keeping for 10+ years now, so perhaps that is why I don’t need pressure of dates but rather more flexibility to add an entry when I want. But for many other things I like dated to keep me accountable!

I'm wondering if the January to March designs for 2026 are a teaser for new designs for those months. That would make sense in my mind. You probably could find flips and pictures from previous years to find out, but I also like to be surprised so that's why I don't always make such good background research before buying.

I have been wanting this dog pattern for years already and now was the time to get it. So maybe it was a good thing that they discontinued the clover pattern. I don’t know why I talked myself out of this just because I haven’t had a pet dog ever. I haven’t had any other animals either and that hasn’t stopped me from getting for example pig or bunny items either. It’s so weird how the mind sometimes works 😅

Nice 👍🏼 I haven't even thought about that problem now because I don't have it 😅 But I think I also prefer it on the spine - or at least it doesn't bother me there at all and I don't either mind the look of it there. I think if you would really use your TN in travel and wouldn't write on even surfaces, then it probably wouldn't disturb you either on the back cover but trying to write neatly at a table you will notice it.

You are right and I think I need to again do some decluttering in my stationery collection. It just requires a certain level of alertness to be able to make decisions about letting go. Sometimes the opinion of others disturbs my ability to make decisions. But why would I hold on to something that others like, if I don't like it. There's nothing wrong with me in that case. It's just about differing preferences. I know it's annoying to have to order everything online and the risk for disappointments is greater then. I just evaluate if I'm willing to take the risk with that item and price. I will do the spending regrets video, but probably expand it to multiple years - maybe from 2020 to 2024 so the time I have been on UA-cam. I can already think of multiple items I would need to show on that video 😬

You don't need to feel bad about that - I think we all influence each other by sharing things, but we all also in the end make our own buying decisions. And it was just little over 5 euros so no big deal. I spend way more on VDS 30mm gold rings to learn that I don't like gold rings or 30mm rings 😅 I did see the VDS personal wide sale and thought about it but it's not a size I have ever used or ever thought about using. Of course it is tempting, but I rather save the money for something I really like and know I would use. And you said there is no color that tempts you 😏 But if you like personal size, the wide is not so far from that, but I already have a personal/standard VDS without a use, so buying the wide doesn't seem so wise... But of course a sale is always tempting 😅 About the price of VDS... if you buy a ready made it's really not so bad. You get one VDS with the price of two Moterms... As an example the pocket size. Two Moterms would be about 200 euros and one VDS is only about 150 euros. So it is really not that bad. Especially if Moterm quality is going down and you spend the 100 euros on something that's unusable after a few months so that isn't at all money well spend in my opinion. (Talking to myself here 😖) I would assume you could afford a VDS - but maybe not ten of them 😅 For me it's quality over quantity, but of course everyone is on their own journey and maybe you enjoy the variety. And the TM leather is far from for example Moterm veg tan, so that is also something that's a matter of taste and preference.

@@Katiplans Yes I realize it’s always a personal decision and of course the discovery and experimentation phase always has some hits and misses. Regarding vds it is a curiosity because need is a strong word 😅 I could use scrap pieces and paper and survive, it’s still all under this hobby life but you are right regarding the pricing - it’s not too different and ultimately it’s about choosing something we really really want!

There is also the BST group for VDS on Facebook 😉 Most of the sellers seem to be in the US, but there are also sometimes European sellers. Do you have an Italian BST group for stationery? That could be a good place to start selling, if you choose to do that someday. Then it's not such a hassle with shipping when it's domestic. Not saying you need to sell something - just an idea if you want to refine your collection some day. And if you don't have such a group, maybe you could start it 🙂

In Italy you have over ten times more population than in Finland and we have at least two groups like that! So I definitely believe there is a change to make it happen. You must have stationery lovers also in that country! I don't believe you are the only one out there. You just need to find the people.
