As much as me and my friends played the game cube I didn't know it was a flop

It's similar to the PC-98 or X68000 -- it wasn't a flop in Japan and that means it boasts a library, some of which came out it in the West, that has retro appeal in spades.

The memory cards and game boy advanced player weren’t really innovations. N64 had memory cards and the Super Nintendo had the super game boy.

Flopped is an incorrect word. The Wii U flopped, the Saturn flopped, the Dreamcast flopped, but the GameCube was only a couple of million systems sold behind the Xbox.

Coming from a guy who had a gamecube growing up and had no problem with it; nintendo's two biggest mistakes were making a Luigi release title and a cartoony zelda. Both major blows I remember vividly at the time.

My son is almost 7. We have a Switch with many games. He prefers playing Luigi’s Mansion 1 on my old Gamecube.

it was significantly less powerful than the ps2 and xbox, pc gaming was really taking off, and everyone suddenly needed dvd players, which was a significant factor in convincing your guardians that it was a family investment 😅, but hey it wasn't a dreamcast, and it could play resident evil?

Had they chose Blazing Lasers as the packing game rather than the forgettable Keith Courage, the TG-16 might have gotten a better foothold in the highly competitive 16-bit game market.

It's true. I was a gamecube fanboy and everyone hated it. A few people liked halo and everyone else was on ps2. I played gamecube its whole life then got a ps2 and played both with ps2 eventually becoming my favorite. Back then I saw them as quality (gc) vs quantity (ps2). Today I think I prefer gc overall but both are great.

I think the DVD option that playstation 2 had was big back then.

There are a few gems on the TG, mostly in the CD game library, but overall the games are average or even trash. I say this as a fan of the system, who also owned one when it was released.

I was not born until 91 so by the time i started playing video games when i was 4 all i knew was the genesis, the snes, Gameboy, and playstation. I only owned a Gameboy and a ps1 at first but i never even heard of this system until i was in highschool. I still have never seen one in person

I had both the GC and later a PS2. Really liked both consoles but the controls always seemed to be easier on GC and there was some exclusives that were a ton of fun.

the best Gameboy game of all time the challenges always keeps the player on their toes with every 4 levels giving the player a break from the puzzle stages and more of the classic Donkey Kong arcade style I must say DK94 is one of the most underrated Nintendo games I've played.

By far my favorite console of all time.

N64 was severely limited by it's cartridge format, which is why PlayStation was able to wipe the floor with them. Textures for N64 were flat shaded whenever possible, whereas PlayStation could have a robust texture library on disc and cut scenes, and sound etc. Even with N64 additional capability, they really missed the mark using cartridge.

It has what is still my favorite (and imo, one of the best) racing games ever, F-Zero GX. Punishingly difficult, but so satisfying to complete and rewards you every step of the way.

I had all three and the GC was my favorite followed by XBOX. With that being said, the ONLY reason I got one was because of the Resident Evil deal. I had to love it because I traded my PS2 for it since I was a HUGE Resident Evil fan. Without that deal, I would have never bought it and grown to love it.

the TB16 had that arcade feel, and that's what moved us to own them back in the 90's

It's crazy how many people think that the Genesis came out at the same time as Sonic The Hedgehog.

The GameCube was definitely not a flop we all had one because they were affordable and had awesome games your off your rocker

I was able to get one of these broken, I have it recognized by the system now at least, but it still fails to read non audio CD discs. Hoping replacing the transport will fix my issues, it made some pretty nasty noises at some point.

Don't forget if you have an HD adapter, all Gamecube games are 480p HD, which looked much better than most PS2 and OG XBox games. F-Zero GX should be mentioned. It's probably the most perfect iteration of that game and Nintendo hasn't even yet attempted to top it.

Us as kids definitely enjoyed our GameCube but i get it. A ps2 woulda been so much more

so many classic gamecube exclusives. It leaves a grand legacy.

Graphically, Gamecube still holds up. Rogue Squadron 2 was insane.
