I can emulate anything it does better these days. I have a $700 custom hardmodded OG xbox though just because you can't emulate it outside a select few games making me need one by default just to play games like Doom 3 and Doom 3 ROE's console port and both Mechassault games which now work online again with xbox live/insignia.

I think the reason the GameCube was a commercial flop was because it lacked the broad appeal of the PS2. It's a decent console if you're a fan of Nintendo but otherwise it has little to offer

The way I look at it. The GameCube had everything to succeed. It had the games. It had the power (it was more powerful than a PS2) but they failed to show that with poor marketing. Like the GameCube commercials were just so weird and honestly still just kinda haunt me to this day. Plus the GameCube felt weaker than the PS2 as it didn’t use an actual CD. So the games ended up being smaller scale or had more limitations than the PS2s version of the same games.

a Flop... sure ok. Only reason I bought an XBOX was for HALO. Sold my GameCube right before Wii came out and they went to $10

I had one specifically for splatter house. Was awesome. Just wish it had more variety. Was mainly shooters. Cool little system.

Got my first console at 4 years old which was a PS2 then GC at 5 years old I still have the same stations to this day that work perfect I still find myself playing GC more but still 2 of the best systems an gaming eras

As an old timer I can give a little insight as to why it failed commercially. Back then most people were all about the best graphics and mature games like Max Payne and GTA. Not having those games, having a weird handle and being purple instantly marked it in the eyes of many gamers as the “kiddie console”. I was in high school and people got clowned hard for having a Gamecube. PS2 and Xbox were considered “real consoles”. Also not having a Mario game at launch hurt it.

Because of the quality of the games. It didnt have the ingenuity that NES had with the gun, floor pad, glove, interactive etc but it did have fun and high quality games. ive had the same console since I was a kid and still have my old games

Around the time I graduated high school, a friend bought the Jaguar and most of the games at K-Bee toys for like 96% off. She spent $90 for 5 grocery bags filled with Jaguar stuff. Let's be honest. It was bad. Really, really bad. Most of the games look & play like they were made in Poland and the controller was almost the size of the console. What were they thinking!? Still fun after a few beers but I do remember puking because one of the games gave me motion sickness, probably that monstrosity at 4:50. 🤢🤮

My friend had the GC it was a machine for a handfull of great games, ps2 had houndrets.

This very first JP game makes a lot more sense when you consider it's actually in large part based on the JP novel, not the movie. The rafting section ending with a confrontation with the T-Rex, and especially level 4 where you have to find explosives in the maintenance shed to plant in the raptor nests on the southern part of the island, are all elements based on similar events from the novel. Even the bazooka that Alan uses is a weapon that features prominently in the novel but never makes an appearance in the movie.

About a third of the way through this, I think you forgot to separate the games from the console. You didn't really connect the games to why the gamecube specifically made them great.

TG-16 is popular now for the same reason Sega Saturn and Dreamcast are more popular with retro collectors than with consumers at the time. The sort of game retro people like tends to be quirky and nerd focused. The games that sold the Sega Genesis to the mass market were sports games. If you want to play a sports game now, you get the latest Madden. But if you want to play a quirky shooter, TG-16 is where it's at.

My brother and I both had one. So have mine. We only had about 10 15 games. Then we got the Xbox. And we had alot more games. And we could play Halo online with our friends who all had Xbox.
