We finally made it out on the bay in our own boat. In 2 days we were able to hook 8 halibut and 2 striped bass between 4 people. The weather wasn’t as forecasted but we made best of the conditions. Personal Bests for myself 30 inch on the first day. 33 inch on the 2nd day. Music by: Dan Ayalon Song: “Sneaky line”
Tomales Bay Fishing! THRESHER SHARKS!
Переглядів 1,9 тис.3 роки тому
Tomales Bay is always a fun place to fish, you never know what you’ll hook out in those waters. We were targeting Halibut fishing off the bottom with a 1.5mph drift with live bait (anchovie, jacksmelt, shiners, sardine). We got one shorty halibut 19inches and 3 Thresher hook ups, but the thresher easily cut the 30lb mono. Next time. #bayareafishing
Tomales Bay Fishing: Kayak Fishing

Kayak Fishing in Tomales Bay Drifting/Trolling live bait. Found Herring and shiners as live bait. We drifted and trolling near the red marker and yellow buoy. We had a few Halibut bites, but it was kind of slow. The Striper bite found us tho. We hooked up with a 9lber on a shallow water drift and a 12lber on a slow troll in 25 feet of water. #bayareafishing

Soaked the crab pots for 20 mins. This is sped up at 2.5x most of the crab are undersize, but a good sigh for the future. FYI for people wondering the video date is stuck and will not change. #bayareafishing

Rock Fishing with our buddies! Huge swell but had some fun.. Jake aka “no pants” was struck by a side sneaker wave and soaked him from head 2 toe. Kevin also succumbed to the same fate right after jake left. We caught a few fish and cooked some food. Hope you guys enjoy and please consider subscribing.

That's quite a walk to that spot. Do you ever have any luck on the other side of the bridge right at the mouth of the river?
@@707SonomaComa we have tried both sides and both have produced sturgeon hookups.
Good job fellas big hogs 👍🏼
thats how its done boys! nice boat!! TOADS! BOARD BUSTERS!!
NICE JOB! What day was this?
@@larry5039 it was on Labor Day.
nice cath
Did you kick the barb off that ray?
Circle hooks, or regular long shank hooks, and what size?
4/0-6/0 hooks and i use regular shank hooks with some squid and sinker slider 3-4 ounce weight.
I just moved into the apartments near this, is this area pretty heavily worked?
+@meerkat8090 it gets fished often, but its the Petaluma river the striper follow the bait. Sometimes its hot other times nothing. Get the live bait and ull get one if they’re running that day.
Awesome video, thanks! Can you catch leopards there through the winter?
Yes, they’re around yearly and really fun to catch. Some months are easy to catch them, but this was in October..
Very unsafe going out without NAV lights!!!
Go look up navigational lights on a non motorized vessel. If you are going to post on our page scolding us, please make sure your information is correct. YOU’RE WRONG…
You guys understand that by coast guard regulations, you must have navigation lights right? A white light on a stick is not in compliance. You are required to have a nave light (white) as well as nave (green) lights starboard and (red) port lights in order to indicate to others your vessel's you direction. If you believe otherwise, you're placing yourselves in harm's way as well as other boaters! Be safe rather then $orry!
You need to understand, you dont understand or care to read regulations correctly or fully.
For non-motorized vessels such as human propelled kayaks and SUP a navigation light may be one of the following: An electric flashlight or other bright light. Lighted lantern showing a white light which shall be exhibited in sufficient time to prevent collision. Tricolored lantern (should not be used with all-round green and red lights) All-Round green and red lights. (should not be used with tricolored lantern). This is from the boating and waterways website for California.
Followed from Occidental, CA. Crabs have been an annual tradition for me and Tomales Bay is my stomping ground since a kid. If you see a beat to hell aluminum skiff with a "4x4" sticker on the transom, it's me! Great haul!
How deep were you?
25 feet
@@averageanglers7075 wow shallow
@@ehumaui4087 ya the bay only has a few spotswith 30 plus areas and not much
Great harvest team, awesome video,
Hey, how are you doing? We were at Walmart in Santa Rosa. I appreciate the tips on the fishing Bells you told me to order on Amazon. and I look at your videos and hopefully you can teach me how to fish properly. Thanks.
I looked up berrypro monster surf . No 15-40 line
Looks like they dont sell that model as much or at all on amazon. It looks like they went with different models and names now.
@@averageanglers7075 the 10' 6" is 15-30 now. Manufacturers change stuff
I've interested in this rod and looking at it on Amazon, wondering if it's any good. Be great if you could make a video of fighting and catching some fish. Thanks for sharing.
Time of year?
Well this was in october. They usually are around most of the year.
What do yall use for bait for the sharks?
+Wes Briggs anything live, ive been hit with, herring, anchovies, and mackerel
Where exactly is this along the bay. I usually fish down toward Marshall.
I think its near marshall. If you look up Hearts Desire, that is the spot we park then walk the trail to indian beach .5 mile
@@averageanglers7075looks like a nice comfortable place to fish. No rocks or steep revines, great safe place for kids too! Tomales Bay looks like there should be lots of places to fish like that on BOTH sides of the Bay.
Yea, I don't like parking on the side of the road with not much room.
Videos like this have ruined Tomales
my Riot Mako 12 is a little different from yours...i only have front and rear deck hatches.
I think they reworked them over the years. I hope they improved, i sold mine and got hobie outback
I was just there last weekend. Hooked about a 4-5 foot thresher. They put up one crazy fight!
Nice. They in there year round. We saw some slapping at bait a few trips ago. Ive hooked 3-4 so far all got away
How many eyes are on that 10'6 rod?
7 eyes. I sold it to a buddy of mine that caught his first sharks on it.
@@averageanglers7075 I was thinking of buying a 10'6" or an 11' from Amazon. Your video was made two years ago. Do you still recommend this rod?
+C So, for the price yes. I didnt use the rod a million times i have tons of rods ands reels. This was a replacement for my daiwa bg rod. I would say for the price it was a good deal.
@@averageanglers7075 Thank you for the information. Appreciate it!
Bucket list fish
Alright bud, I'm hungry !
hell yea
Do you live close by or stay somewhere close? I think this is close to Inverness? Would love to do this, camp and fish there.
I live in Santa Rosa so about 30-35 min drive. You can park overnight at millers and if you have a boat a lot of the beaches close to hog island are first come first serve. Just be careful of high tides and setting up tent. Just motor or paddle across and you can camp for cheap.

What Rod and reel set up is that?
Phenix Abyss 806 is the rod 179.99$ and reel is Piscifun Alijoz Baitcasting 75.99 on cyber monday usually 99.99
I actually this its my 786 abyss HD but i run the Alijoz each ratios on these rods

Nice catch! Nice setup
Dam man. That sucks. 😭
Your supposed to pull the rod up then reel them repeat
He knows now and was better later in day. Was his first fish ever.
I like what you did there, as little change the kayak as possible.. Hobie's wiring solution seals but requires a hole the size of a silver dollar be drilled into the boat. I found that scotty mount setup the best as well.
who strung the line on that reel in the opening scene?
Ya we realized after that big fish it wasn’t in the guide. Oops
Nice video. Where donyou launch from? If you don't mind me asking.
+Jose Jr Mokay Berkeley marina. 16$
@@averageanglers7075 thanks I appreciate it. Is their a bait shop near by?
+Jose Jr Mokay pier 47 j & p baits. Drive the boat up, make sure you have a big live well with pumps and you csn get half scoop $35 live anchovies or full for $50. Half was good for 4 people both days.
@@averageanglers7075 ok cool. Inreally appreciate it. How far is the boat drive uo there from the marina?
+Jose Jr Mokay not too far 10-15 mins from marina, then if you dont know the area just stay near alcatraz and stay near the fleet. We drifted 30 feet mostly.
Who are Berry Pro? Are they legitimate?
My best opinion would be just rated under a penn prevail rod. Not the worst not the best. Just a decent/good rod. Handles leopard sharks pretty well. It caught 2 five footers in my shark video from shore
@@averageanglers7075 awesome thanks for your answer 😀I actually from the uk some of the rod we have has no shrink wrap feel like 15 foot javains lol
Nice catch good fishing day

What kind of bait do the sturgeon like out there ghost or grass shrimp
That day i used both. Ghost on the hook and wrapped grass around the ghost!
Hey there! good vid! Do you still use these kayaks? Any long-term info, how did these hold up ?
I sold mine to a friend. Besides a track snapping and some normal wear and tear its held up pretty well. My buddy still has his and hasnt used it lately but no issues. They tend to leak a little, but nothing major. Will have a cup or 2 in my kayak on long bay trips crabbing.
Good job bro 👍
Good luck my friends

Interesting, I didn't know there were Threshers in Tomales.
Yup. Usually the smaller ones. I think they are spawning in there…could be wrong tho. We’ve hooked 3 of them in the last year tho.
