Ya, especially a 147 Leslie cab. I had the M100 and chopped it and it was great, but I sold that one. I've also owned a B3 but mine had a bunch of issues so sold it as well. I have an RT3 now and I've found you can get basically every sound profile you want out of it, and I like the curvature of the bass pedals I find they are better for playing and are more what I'm used to.

@@noelle-beaudin Isn't the RT3 effectively the (tropicalised) big beast B3 equivalent from WW2? Our Leslie was the 147 too - a nice unit.

@@martinjf467 hahahaha. Effectively it is the bigger sibling to the B3. It's the one used in churches, theatres, stage. I got it for free from a church that didn't want it any more and they had no one that could play organ. Organ is a dying breed, unfortunately.

@@noelle-beaudin oh yeah, I know which one you mean now! For nothing??? W-H-oly sh*t!, LITERALLY!!! That's a very collectable "fidget spinner"! We emigrated in 2019 so we had to sell our Hammond and one of our Mellotrons sadly. I was literally in tears when we loaded the 'tron onto the courier van because I had had it since 1976.

@@martinjf467 I envy you that you had a mellotron, although I know the difficulty in keeping them in working order, there is nothing that has that sound. Love its use in vintage King Crimson.

Nyckelharpa is only similar in that it's kind of a niche instrument. HG has been around since medieval times, Nyckelharpa is more modern than that, and you play it with a bow (like a fiddle) not a wheel.

Absolutely. There are a number of great recommendations on www.gurdyworld.com/ and I would say to read through all that information first on your own to make a good decision. There are some other newer beginner models that have come out since the GurdyWorld Blogs, and one other to look at would be the MM Trigo, but in the G/C tuning and not the bog standard GGG tuning. I personally think the Nerdy Gurdy Linotte is the best value for the money though and you can't go wrong with Jaap and Fay - they are outstanding people that stand behind their instruments.

I've been experimenting with mic placement a lot lately. For audio I've got two twinned RODE mics and then two clip ons on the HG itself, and you can hear what that sounds like on my Bandcamps. But for videos on YT all I use is the mic on my phone. 🙂 Magical phone mic.

Well thanks. I do teach lessons for a living on piano, organ, HG and voice three of which I studied at the Boston Conservatory - sadly there is no HG program in America yet...."yet" being the operative word as Max Enloe and I are trying to change that. Two more weeks, I have a gig next weekend so we have to film it the following weekend!
