Tundra Long Start Fix with out Changing Flex Fuel Pump
Переглядів 12 тис.Рік тому
2018 Tundra has had Long start/crank problem each of the past two years. I think it is a fuel problem, not the fuel pump. ECU does not need to be flashed either. Hope this helps someone else.

Airstream Wheel, Hub, and Tire Totally Destroyed Gone!

Airstream Wheel, Hub, and Tire Totally Destroyed Gone!
As a complete newbie to RVs and solar, I'm a little confused by what I really need after all the videos I'm watching on solar for an RV. All I really need a solar package to do is be able to charge my laptop and my cell phone once a day with 110volts, and run my 12 volt interior lights and pilot on my fridge and heater. Would this system manage be capable of managing that I wonder?
My previous tow vehicle was an '18 f150 super crew, 5.5 bed with 18" wheels. I just traded for a 22 f150 super crew with 6.5' bed. I had a lot of sway control issues with the old truck. Hoping the taller wheels and longer wheel base make a noticeable difference.
I've been researching the Toyota Tundra and found a 2020 limited model from Texas with 190,000 miles in great condition at a car dealership at a great price. It has only one owner, but I’m unsure about its history. I’m a bit concerned about the mileage, and the tow hitch looks new, which makes me wonder if it has been replaced.
Do a carfax. Replaced mine back in April when I was rear ended, Minor damage, but bent one of loops where safety chain attaches
Imagine a city dweller telling folks with a lifetime of experience your stupid for using Lt tires. Thanks YT for allowing these morons to spread their ignorance like a virus...
My 2012 flex fuel 5.7L tundra had to have an update on the ECU for fuel mixture and alcohol content. It was doing a hard start and run rough after refueling. Update fixed it till about a month and a half ago and started to have hard start again. I replaced the fuel pump about 10k miles ago so not that. Checked all relays and fuses but nothing wrong. I went to harbor freight and bought a high end code reader to check all sensors. Everything looked great but still a hard start after sitting overnight. I did an ECU reset and problem solved. I guess it was confused on fuel quality so issues with mixture on startup. Still starts great to this day.
Got another video, found ethanol free fuel fixes it as well
Pretty sure those tires are XL rated, which is part of the P category but actually has the slightest sidewall extra stiffness which most other P tires do not. Perfect for 1/2 ton truck towing IMO
this is correct
Towed a 14,000 lb trailer cross country multiple times in my 97 Ranger, went up the Colorado mountains passing 18 wheelers at 70 mph
Alright, now that had to be at least a little nerve racking

I wish that I had the time to do a setup like that. Do you use it to run AC?
NEVER put flex fuel /E85!!!!’ However, I bought my 2012 Toyota crew max brand new and have never used any kind of flex fuel but this has been an issue from the start but only in cold weather I have 280,000 miles. I have never replaced anything other than usual maintenance and all the belts and hoses and pulleys. These engines last forever !! I also have a Toyota FJ with 370,000 all original
Might have something to do with winter blend. Mine started when it wasn't even that cold. Doesn't happen in the warmer seasons either. I'm in the Midwest
Appreciate everyone sharing on their experiences with this. Interesting at how many start chasing that “ fuel pump replacement “ only to see it back again.
You have city tires on that will puncture easy in real terrain . 😂😂😂
Ummm, I have tires designed for the road, mud, and snow. Bet I have been off grid than 90% of trucks with offroad tires.
Cant wait to see your next update. My 2017 that we bought new now has 47,775 miles. As of 11/30/24 it is our vacation and daily driver. We decided to go to 1 car. Lets see how that works 🙂
That is a-great find with ‘17 with that low of miles
Just purchased a 2020 Tundra Limited one owner vehicle with 24k miles. Truck is like brand new. Loving this vehicle so far!
You’re going to love it
Me and my spouse made the decision to get ourselves a 2020 tundra next year. We'll either be getting the platinum or TRD Pro love these trucks.
Can’t go wrong with either
what radio is that
My 17 gmc sierra 5.3 tows an 18 ft solid deck car trailer with 3600 lb car on it, with tools in bed and 5 passengers just fine on P tires, general grabber hts 60.
Honestly I stopped changing only brake pads without doing the rotors at the same time. Im far from a professional mechanic but I find that the rotors wear/scuff so uniform to that of the pads that it's easier to do them both together, rather than going back and changing the rotors 6 months later . Also, you're right on the money with OEM brakes. Always better, much more miles. Too much aftermarket junk out there ! Love the truck, cheers !
Appreciate the info and comment
I have 2011 tundra with 144k miles and I tow regularly. Best half ton.
Diesels have turbos.. and the diesel engine breaks in at 200000.. if you drive the eco boost like a race car or high Rev it all the time and not maintain your radiator fluid
diesel turbo is vastly different than gas turbo
@kedrevs4037 . Please explain...
Do you not wrap your pork butts or brisket in foil or butcher paper after a couple hours then put it back in or do you let it go without it the whole time?
@@MD-eo2wy most of the time, I let mine go the whole time. if it’s running close to meal time, then I’ll wrap it. I always wrap it when it’s done cooking and let it rest in the wrap and cooler for a minimum of an hour
I love my LT tires on my half ton.
You video audio is lower than the average UA-cam video.
@kedrevs what radio unit did you install?
Alpine ilx
Love my 20
S4 gives engine braking just not as much as S3
🤔
I've had regular passenger tires and I tow my work trailer regularly. They wear down far quicker than LTs. That's my main concern. I've had passenger A/Ts wear down to 4/32nds after 15,000 miles mixed use, summer and winter. That's just ridiculous, LT tires are made to last and wear is the determinant factor to me.
Depends the Defender comes in M/s and m/s2. The m/s2 are just a few dollars more, but wear is greatly improved when towing
Thank you SO much for this video sir!! Helped me a ton!
Glad it helped
Im buying this, im glad hp tuning is available and headers..
what air bags you used with your truck
Firestone ride rite
ok a tundra head im with you
News flash! The Michelin defender LTX is a “light truck tire” what did you think the LT stands for?
one would think, but no it's a passenger tire
@@kedrevs4037 It is however an "XL" tire as opposed to the "SL" commonly found on many half tons. Do you know if your truck came with "SL" tires? I'm curious about the ride quality difference when not towing between SL and XL.
Well it's 2024 and the wife and I found a 2018 Platinum with 41K miles. It's in fantastic condition! I will be adding your recommended mods for sure. Glad I found you! Will be taking the family on cross country trips. Maybe see you on the road?
Enjoy the safe travels
Great idea 👍 I've "fixed" mine several times but its just a poor OEM design. Thank you 🙏
Hope it helps. Been great over 15k more miles.
What a dumbass. 🙄
Thanks very much @kedrevs4037 ! This is the definitive UA-cam video on Tundra door check removal /replacement. The repair on my '14 Platinum went smoothly (Amazon part). A couple of additional observations, hints: 1) check to see that it just isn't the door check bolt that is loose - on my passenger side this was the case, and a simple crank of the bolt got rid of the "tick" (but my driver side was surely broken) 2) be gentle with wiring harness connections as they can be brittle and hard to detach on older trucks; 3) when tightening the door check bolt that goes into the body, make sure the "stem" stays horizontal - while torquing mine down, it wanted to rotate and bow upwards. Again, thanks for taking the time to post the video. I thought I was entering the wrong truck after this was fixed, it was so quiet.
Thanks for sharing the info
That generation Tundra is notorious for rear squat under minimal tongue weight. Airbags are needed for you (as my old 2020 we sold) but most other 1/2 ton trucks don’t suffer so badly. Weight distributing hitch is a must for all trailers over 5K dry weight, IMO.
sag is going to be true for any half ton, they all squat about the same. Except "off-road" suspension even more
Trailer tires are designed for the trailer and sidewalls are thicker for trailer axles shifts truck tires are not . But to each his own just make sure you have enough insurance to cover the other family's lives you may destroy.
Tires? Tires? did you even watch the video?
@kedrevs4037 yes. In the very beginning you spoke of people using truck tires. It was that point I was commenting on. People use what they want to use and blame it on everyone and everything else when things go wrong. Testing is done for a reason.
I just got a 2019 Toyota Tundra platinum today. I Love it!
Great choice, it will outlast any new half tons
I thought it went into S4 when you switch it from drive because that's 1 to 1 it's not a overdrive gear...
This is true, but because there would be immediate engine braking below 4, it would especially problematic if going downhill underload.
OMGOSH! Thank you for your inputs on towing. I'm looking at a 2021 X-Series CrewMax and I want to take the family on cross country camping trips. The trans cooling system I knew, but thebtouch screen with the rear view camera anytime is great and adding the airbags I will DEFINITELY be doing. Thanks again!
Thanks for the kind comment
Small correction: you needed 1950 for the front but read the line for Dual Tires. Single would have been 2030/40psi
thank you
I have a 22 Tundra. It’s a terrible truck and I won’t buy another 3rd generation. I’ll try to find a good used second generation.
Sorry about the 2022, but you'll love
5 years for anything is still almost new.
Nice
Thanks
You mixed gvwr and gcvwr comparing a load of rock and a load your towing
Not sure, I may have mis spoke but I know what they are
Shit I just switch from 91 to 87 and started noticing slow start. Not as bad as yours.
I think it's more winter gas than grade issue, but if you can track down some ethanol free, really seem to work
You gave a basic opinion piece. Payload of the tow vehicle includes tongue weight which will reduce the number of passengers. You did not mention either braking systems or tires. Towing up and down a small hill is important, however towing on I70 from Denver to Vail is a real test which is my opinion.
TFL much?, done that one under tow too many times to count. Plenty of highways and interstate tougher than the "Ike". Try the curves of I-70 in VA at it's 6% grade over 6 miles. Through the bighorn national foresst on Hwy 16 or 14, way more semanding on driver and vehicle than "the Ike gauntlet"
Most highways and freeways clearly post any vehicle that has more than 4 axles as 55 MPH. Or any vehicle towing a trailer is limited to 55MPH. I certainly would not want to be going 70+ MPH and get a blow out on the truck or trailer, or have to make a quick maneuver when getting cut off by a reckless driver. I have more than enough power, weight and suspension with my Chevy Silverado 2500 HD pulling my small 5th wheel to go 80 MPH, but why take the chance and spend more on fuel costs and wearing out tires. High speed heats up and wears out tires. If I have a line of vehicles behind me, I will do the right thing and pull over when it's safe to do so and let the other vehicles pass. My normal goto speed is 65 MPH and no more than 70 MPH if and when it's safe to on a flat straight road with little or no traffic and no wind.
Dude, that 55 mph speed limit for trailers is a CA thing.
@ you do you dude
As you said in your video multiple times, what works for you is P rated tires, with your small Toyota and trailer, which you give no specifications for. Assuming your trailer is small and within the load rating of your P rated tires and Toyota truck. However, a lot of times people make suggestions that 1/2 ton trucks need an E rated LT tire because they are towing heavy, adding airbags, etc. When you start doing that you are going to see towing issues with your 1/2 ton truck. Upgrading to E rated tires helps with the load. So, if you want to see if your video is correct, go hook up to a trailer that tests the ratings of your truck and see if those soft sidewalls still feel right. Your video is really lacking 2 sides to the story, it is only about your lack of experience that has you making the comments you make in this video.
You may not be a moron, but your comment is moronic. Point is you can't put enough load on a half ton to reasonably challenge the load ratings of the tires. If our concerned about what I tow, there are plenty of vids for your perusal.
Found your solution after installing ifixify replacement hinges and new door hinge sockets. Went to 180 instead of 90 degree on the springs to get tension. Will add your magnet solution- closing up the open back with hot glue instead of super glue. Great job thinking it through 👍
Great idea on the glue, thanks for comment
Love this truck!!! I had the 2019 and traded it for a Tacoma 2018 and I am sad.
Tacomas are great too.
