Instrument is so procedurally that it’s kinda hard to mess up once you understand it all. The checkride is only though because they make you shoot 3 different approaches so quickly. Which isn’t even close to really life. Make sure you know 91.175 verbatim
I felt the same way working through my Instrument. I kept waiting for something to trip me up and it never happened. I’m now a CFI-I & MEI and I seriously believe the PPL is the hardest Checkride.
haha hoping I feel more like that the more I go through this.
Are you working full time while attending flight school?
Yes🫠
@@irubengulerI really admire your dedication to the training! Seeing you train, while maintaining full time work, fires me up and gives me so much motivation. Will be joining you in the skies soon
Congrats! I just turned sixteen, did my solo, and have about 30 hours, but I am restricted by my age, as I can’t get my license until 17. I agree with what you were saying about flying as often as possible, but I still have another year ahead of me. I’ve been talking to my instructor, and I wanted to know what you thought, whether I should stretch out my training for this year (flying about once a week), or just grind out a bunch of hours in a few weeks and just stay proficient.
Hmmmm I would try to fly At least once a week, and as you get closer to your 17th birthday/checkride I would ramp up the hours. Start at once a week then when you get closer then go about 3 to 4 times a week. Then you’ll be solid! Congrats tho! Flying solo for your first time is a big step!!
Hey man, I came from your PPL flashcard video. I just want to say thank you so much for how transparent you are in your videos. It can be very hard at times, but I know there are so many people like me who really benefit from seeing your raw, truthful struggles, and wins. I just passed my stage 1 check yesterday and will hopefully solo during my next lesson!
Thank you for your support! I try to be as transparent as possible because that's what I was looking for when I started. Happy the videos helped! Congrats on passing your stage check, keep pushing its definitely a journey!!
Been thinking of trying to become a pilot for almost a year. I’m 38…not too old, not young either 😆 I have a mild speech impediment/stutter 😔. The thought of talking on the comms/oral type tests low key terrifies me. A guy on another channel said that the speech thing wouldn’t hold me back, and I need to go for it. Curious to get your perspective/input. Thanks so much and keep up the great work!
The age is def not a problem! Still have a long career waiting for you! The sooner you start the longer the career😉 But as far as your speech goes, it all depends on how bad it is. I would download the app “live ATC” and you can listen live to any tower. And get used to talking on the radios before joining a flight school. I think you’ll be fine. But idk how bad your condition is.
@ man, thanks for the quick reply! I didn’t think 38 was too late. I follow the Fly With Trent channel and he’s definitely been an inspiration/motivator for me to try and pursue this. I’ve been trying to reach out to a few channels asking them their opinion. My speech condition isn’t that bad at all, at least to me. It gets “worse” when I’m nervous.
I follow him too! I think you’ll be fine, when you go to get your medical I think that will be the true test for the doctor! Tell him your struggles and he’ll let you know if you can get that first class medical, and if so then I think you’re good! It sounds like you’re going to do great especially as you build confidence!!
I am 17 years old and i got my ppl last september and your flashcards really helped me so much and I’ve been building my cross country pic time for my instrument. Would you make another video of flash cards but for the instrument? Thank you for the motivation and updates.
Yes I got you! When I get closer to my checkride I most definitely will! Thank you for your support. And congrats on getting your ppl so young!!
@ Thank youu🙏
Prepping for private checkride now. Hoping to have PPL in February then onto instrument. Motivation gets even higher watching these update videos! Keep grinding Ruben ✈️
Goodluck!! You got this. Study study study study!! Keep going through those flash cards! Thank you for your support, I’m here for you if you ever need anything.
Instrument was so fun for me, if you can, do published holds and arcs. Those are fun to do. And definitely get vectored by ATC often because thats pretty much what youll be doing in IFR most of the time.
Yeah I’m so excited to fully understand all of instrument because that’s how we’ll be flying for the rest of our career. Congrats that you got your instrument. Def need to practice more and more of those holds and arcs.
@ do them in flight simulator if you are able. If not, do what I call "chart flying" haha. Where you look at the chart or approach plate and walk yourself through the procedure from cruise to the DA.
Nice to see an update. I just started studying for instrument and its chaotic looking at the plates. I will have to watch these sportys videos several times. And some additional youtube. Thanks for the motivation and update. cheers!
Good luck to you! We in this together! Let’s gooooo. Me too! Feed that brain some aviation everyday and we’ll get there.
14 hours down. 1486 to go 🫡
It’s a marathon. We got this, we running together!
Yo I’m so tempted to join up with y’all
@_jonbee come through!! Haha
@ I’m so tempted tbh
Ruben, I felt every comment you made about waiting for the Checkride and preparing for it. It’s so much info and super stressful and no way to fake it. I pretty much had the same experience as you. I got my PPL last month too but need a break before instrument. Congrats!
Congrats to you!! Yes, by far the most stressful thing I’ve done haha. Let’s continue to get better!!
33:28 Quite Bored! But boring is good! Aviation will be my career!
First off congratulations. Maybe it’s me but let’s not forget the authority DPEs have when certificating new pilots. As you said you are now allowed to fly alone and with passengers which is a huge responsibility. Ultimately it’s the decision of that DPE to allow you that privilege and I think it is a poor attitude to think DPEs are giving away certs in areas simply with less traffic. As you move on in this career you’ll need to realize that you shouldn’t blame any of your failures on someone else.
What kind of monitor is that? Do you use it for flight simming?
Samsung odyssey G9 I LOVE IT! You should def get it, if you’re in the market for a new monitor
I don’t use it for flight sim, But I’m planning on getting that set up
Just got Aero 1010 midterm study guide! The midterm is at the end of next week!
Cool idea, Ruben! Maybe share more about what Global Flight Club offers-like merch, services, or a community-so people know how to get involved and vibe with the mission.
Good luck man, I'm working on instrument as well, it gets easier with time, just as private did, you got this!
@@YouFoundNick I’m hoping I have a easier time with it, and understand it well
@@irubenguler It's like a navlog. At first you were like "oh no what the h- is this" Now, you do it in your sleep. Started IFR a few months ago, now I prefer to fly IFR instead of VFR it's actually easier once you get it
Yeah that’s true. At the beginning everything seems overwhelming
Sick brother, passed my private almost 3 weeks ago. Already started my online ground school too. I want to get my written out of the way first
Congrats bro! Let’s do it!!
How many times do you fly a week?
3X
7:25 don’t over study that Oral Exam Guide, use Pilot Cafe it has everything that it will be on your oral exam
Good luck man! just starting my CFII
Ohhhh you’re done!! Push through that finish line!!
Great video!! Just a quick question, when you say the sim is free do you mean it in terms of availability or its actual free 😂
Haha for us it’s actually free
we’re in this journey together. Just started IR
Good Luck brother! Let’s get it done!!
Hey Ruben! Keep it up!
Thank you for the support!
I am prepping for instrument as well. There is so much ground school material to learn for instrument. It’s all very exciting. Good luck for your training!
Really? Ugh hahaha not mentally ready for another checkride haha. Goodluck to you too! Keep me posted on your training
Can you do a video going into detail about your flight school loan? Rate, repayment terms, thought process behind using a loan, etc?
Yessir. I’ll try to get a video out about this as soon as possible
Let's go. Me too baby , started about 3 months ago , weather in winter has mad delays
Oh wow. How do you feel being 3 months into it? Easier than private? Or more challenging
@irubenguler I would say , definitely more challenging, especially since I am doing it on my own, so far , those books you got help but truly , finding the gaps of knowledge and not putting it off helps you get the bigger picture
Hey Ruben! Love your videos. I’m interested in getting my PPL soon, so I could may become a pilot for the air national guard. Do you know any good flight schools with ex-military pilots as instructors in the greater Phoenix area?
Check out fly Goodyear I think he’s ex military and owns the school
Just got my PPL last week! Just started some IFR ground vids
Whaaa congrats bro! We can officially say we’re pilots🤝🏽
@ yessir!
didnt use oral exam guide for ppl but i used it for my ifr training and i agree its the best lolll
I agree. I always tell ppl, if they know that book. They will pass haha
I came here to say - “Your content quality is really really great! Looking forward to your next video” Good Luck
Thank you!!
Happy birthday
Thank you brother!
Also I like the shirt, you should make something with the design on the front maybe like a crewneck or hoodie aswell🔥
only up from here ✈️
Great video, been following your journey from the start. Also a student pilot here from Puerto Rico. Looking forward to getting some of your merch 💪🏼
Let’s gooooo. Thank you for the support brother! Stay motivated!!!
I'm 26, also just started in aviation. Keep going you're doing well.
Stay motivated my friend🤝🏽
How goes your instrument training? I just started my online ground school and man it’s a whole different animal.
It really is! I’ll be making a video on this next week.
Happy Birthday, you're an amazing human....🎉
Thank you! Appreciate you
it’s almost like yesterday you were 27 bro, now ur unc status. time flies
Hahaha
So proud of you ❤
Can’t wait to see everything else you accomplish over the next year 🤞🏽
28 AND THRIVING!!!!!!
Yessssirrr!💪🏽
hi sir, i'm professional thumbnail designer on fiver, i can design your thumbnails more unique in just 2 hours in $5
It was awesome thanks
Can you tell me what’s the name of these books that I can study at home before joining a flight school
I would recommend the PHAK and the oral exam book for the private pilot.
Its definitely a lot! of work and a lot! to know! Dude you did it! That’s awesome, but what the hell! What did the first guy fail you for? We need to avoid situations here… come on man. What was it?
I failed because I didn’t know the maintenance log book as well as I should (bc normally the school takes care of that for us) So make sure you know your maintenance log book. Then I also didn’t know how to calculate TAS in the plane.
@@irubenguler I have never looked at the logbook in my school’s planes 😂 and for airspeeds, I only know how to find GS from IAS. This is helpful! Thank you! Blue skies!
@LouiethePilot-2Learn bro me too, lol just make sure you’re able to prove the plane is airworthy
Wait a minute! Dont be saying there's dpes out here signing "farm boys" off after a few landings! #1 realize there are a ton of crappie young instructors out there but even the crappie ones aren't just signing off private pilots! I grew up flying a 172 off the farm out of a 1200 ft strip. I fired my first two instructors because they were so scared of spinning a 150 they wouldn't even cover stalls properly. Both were young city boys that had ni business teaching but were just building hrs to get to the airlines. #2 i was more competent at handling the airplane than they were because i was good at short field takeoff and landings. Granted i didn't know much about radio procedures or navigation with vors. #3 you never explained why you failed the first time! Waiting for 3 months is not a reason. You should have known up front waiting was par for the course. Tons of videos online about having to wait up to 6 months for a dpe so that was pitiful planning onvyour part. The instructor is the most crucial part of obtaining a private pilots certificate. 80% of all the instructors turned out in the past 10byears are really not qualified to be teaching anyone anything but thats one of many failures with the FAA. One of the biggest crimes in aviation is the fact that these large flight schools keep dpes on the payroll and with the shortage of them in the first place creates a disadvantage for the pilots doing the hard way at a smaller school because they dont have rich parents!
My point was that not all private pilots are the same, some train in much more concentrated circumstances rather than let’s say someone in a farm or country side. Clearly this isn’t pertaining to you so just disregard it.
Thanks so much for your content! It means a lot for me who want to be a pilot🙏
Happy to hear that you enjoyed it! Follow that dream brother

This is great information, I just passed my Private pilot checkride two weeks ago. You guys depicted the way forward pretty well. I also heard the PPL is probably the most difficult since it is the first checkride ever
