I guess everyone has their own favorite airplane. I guess for me that would be Kolb aircraft. The FireFly or FireStar has a wider area between the wing attach points. All for the engine to sit between the wings. Lots more room for routing. Besides I like a little longer tail boom. Although Kolb's seems to be slightly overkill length maybe. But, nothing is ever perfect and everything has it's own quarks.

Aluminum leading edge is a no go due to the expansion rate of aluminum over wood. Something is going to get lose over time. You also need to get a certified aircraft welder to do the welding,

I instructed there for a few months in the mid 80’s. One memory I have is seeing a fellow in coveralls - looking like Junior Sample’s brother - frequently cutting the grass on a riding mower. Turns out that was Cecil Weiser, a multimillionare, doing just what pleased him.

I have a yamaha mp 2007 with 13,000kms on it so Id say its a pretty good engine

Hey bro Just a question, if you have a 4cylonder wiring harness for a vehicle, can u add in another cylinder sensor to convert to a 5cylinder wiring harness, and re use the old sensors and connectors for a 5cyl wiring harness to complete the transition? Sorry for the random question but this is for a ford ranger xlt p5at engine also compatible with mazda Bt50? Just wana know if I can add in the addition because my main wiring harness for my ford is burnt at the main where its connected to the fuse box/ecu but I have a spare but its a 4cylinder...please assist

You have created a spindle-moulder there. One of the more hazardous machines in any cabinet or joinery workshop. Prudent to take the extra precautions. I like the simple wing construction! 👍🏻

Hey Ian, did your Yamaha engine meltdown? I was surprised to see your plane mod didn't have any systems in place to prevent overheating.

Why use 2 fuel pumps? My university's team has gotten our engine into starting condition (not an easy engine to figure out) but just need to figure out how to get it to start.

What would you say the total weight of the engine and prop is with, and without the mount. Great video presentation by the way!

I have owned a bead blasting cabinet, from harbor freight, for about 35 years. It has a Tacoma company retrofit kit installed which made it 400% more effective. It's worth it's weight in gold for how it transforms ugly parts into beautiful ones. If I was a little younger, I'd make a water blaster & have the parts come out much more beautiful than just plain bead blasting. The finish is as good, if not better, than brand new, depending on the quality of the parts you acquire.

I'm about two years behind on this so my observations might not be correct....... that engine looks like it needs to be glass beaded ( walnut shell is really good too ) back to a better looking condition... as for the Chinook,... 10+ on that great little plane.... should be Lots-O-Fun to putt around in.😁👍👍.

from where did you get this yamaha engine ? was it in a motorcycle or in an aeroplane ? it is so heavily corroded as if it had been exposed to salt ... ? so why is it that corroded ?
