Phil Elston is in today on our newest block of land to attack the hedgerows (trees) overhanging every field boundary and eating into the available acreage of the fields. Pity to see such habitat destruction 😢
@@Tommyjjjh there’s a lot of habitat there for local wildlife and we’ve left large amounts of hedgerow and land that won’t be cultivated.
Could ve left the dip section entirely or even planted a few hollies in there for abit of cover .
I remember the best part of 30 years ago halling maize with a mate we'd just turn off from one tight lane on a crossroads witch locally are known as The Rocks any way met a car coming the other way at about 6,45 pm in the the pitch black obusely going to the pub he expected us to reverse on to what accentauly is a main road i got out and told him if he didn't go back we'd Push him i got back in the tractor and my mate let it role forward car soon found reverse best part he didn't have to go back more than 200 yards till he found a field gateway.
@@Colin-rg7gt it’s amazing what road users expect of tractor drivers. They’re unable to reverse a car in a straight line so want a tractor and trailer to reverse back around corners 😆

@@edwardtapp1699 yes you will do!
How’s your man opening and closing the back door or the high tip trailer
I know it’s frustrating for cars being stuck behind any agricultural machinery but some roads in Devon just don’t have big enough pull ins for such a large machine and the A377 is notoriously crap for pull ins and lay-bys.
@@kevinmanley2498 this was the road between Torrington and winkleigh, we pulled in 3 times and then a 4th before morchard road
I think you'll have the same problem in most villages across the UK.

Poor Will lol What do you mean by being in manual? I assume it's JD autopower? How did that make it harder to get unstuck surely sleect a gear and plenty of welly once moving change up? I'm old-school lol
@@farmernige yeah for getting out of being stuck it’s better off being in manual, it was earlier in the video when stopped at the side of the road it was because the tractor was dying going up hills, which wasn’t helped by it being in manual
@@SteveLeeAgriI'm a John deere fan but that excuse is rubbish sounds like an excuse for a not very good driver and the worn tyres
@@johnmchardy4502 I’m confused by what you mean?
@SteveLeeAgri you need to change his name from Will to Won't lol But that aside it shouldn't make much difference if he has the engine droop set correctly driving on the pedal it shouldn't die, in manual shouldn't die unless he is pushing the lever too hard. As for filters can be a nightmare if have a load of dirty desiel in. JCB loadalls are very sensitive to crap.
@ he’s a young lad only 19 and everyone in the yard (and who has ever driven tractors) has had some bad moments (much worse than this) and learnt from them 👌🏼 best to make mistakes during the quieter times of the year!
Huge amount of machinery and it all very fresh.
What do you mean spread off?
In my opinion you’d have been better off manually removing some of the lower limbs and leaving a decent chunk of undisturbed headland. The yield of the area next to the trees/hedge is hardly worth the effort and cost of seed. A decent headland and first harvest of the adjacent strip around the perimeter of the field would make more financial sense.
@@davidbarnes241 that’s fair enough, and if we were farming it for one year that is almost certainly what we would have done, however the land (although it may not look it) is decent quality and the headlands shouldn’t be that much of a financial burden come 2nd/3rd year of cropping
And there's you going he's doing a very tidy job 😂
That op on the digger is terrible with that tree shear ,just wreking the trees ,opening them up for disease to set in ,
Wills needs new tyres on front bald !
Yeah in his defence they do not have a lot of life left in them at all!
Haven't been watching your videos for very long, seems like you're feeding all the beet to some kind of digester, wouldn't mind seeing it some time, or have you shown it already?
Not shown it yet, I’ll speak to the plant manager and see if he’s happy to take me on a tour for this channel. We do a lot of work in terms of their feedstocks so have a good relationship going

One of those days! If it makes you feel any better, I got stuck on the barn roof for 2 hours. It's a miracle it didn't rain. FYI with the drones, GPS interference and IMU issues can be a pain... but usually you can do a calibration for most things.

@ thank you very much! 😁 hope you’re keeping well
I don't know how contractors can make money while paying back for these new machines. Seems to me that u would be only tied to the banks and never able to be in the clear. Would i be right or wrong.
@@martymartin2894 it’s not an easy game! It can be very tough there’s a balance to be found between new machine costs vs old machine reliability, then factor in staff and ensuring you can have them drive up date machinery to keep them happy there isn’t a big margin to be found anywhere in farming you just have to do what you think works best for you - we tend to go with newer machines, capable of pulling larger implements in order to be able to work efficiently and try to cover more ground in a day, another contractor may have older machines, smaller kit and have less overheads but cover half the ground. At the end of the day we’re all trying to do the job well and see some kind of return at the end of the year!
