Volunteer Tomato plants Loaded with Fruit
Переглядів 399 годин тому
It was last year on October 31st, one day before we were to harvest that we had a hard frost. The temperature dropped in the twenties that night. The next morning, the fruit froze hard. We lost all of them. It was a couple of months later that we just pulled all the steaks and let everything hit the ground. When spring came, we had 108 volunteer tomato plants come up. We moved some into rows an...

We use the golden rule for Pruning Okra. we call this rule "LTTL" - Leave Top Three Leaves. LTTTL will work for pruning throughout the lifecycle of the Okra plant. For more information on pruning Okra, please visit: ua-cam.com/video/zvDUYKsBkQE/v-deo.html Thank you for the time you took to stop by. Let us tend to the life that feeds us. 🐓

Thank you so much. If I could, I would give you a huge bucket full!

Thank you! Gosh, you should see it now, a month later.
Do I wait to prune them until the first okra appears? I have several plants that are 5 feet tall and havent started producing yet. Should i do it now, or wait until the first okra appear? Thanks!
If i send you an email, would you be able to send me a photo of okra plants ?

We hope you pick up something useful while you stay. Good to see ya
If you want award winning yield, tomatoes are a nightshade plant. Grow them in groups of 3-5 plants, no staking, less bugs, no trimming, just take off the runners. They love to grow in groups.
Interesting process, I never heard it before, so I say I should try it. Thanks for the tip! 👋
I noticed this is similar to advice on peppers, tomatoes, and eggplants I have seen. It concentrates energy of the plant into growing taller and ripening fruits on top, instead of focusing on leaf, stem, and side shoots production that slows down the fruiting process. Another benefit for plants is removing leaves too close to soil so no soil-borne diseases splash onto the leaves during watering or a rain spell. It also improves the air circulation around plants, and brings more light to smaller plants that were too shaded. Would you think wood chip or straw mulch could help okra too? This is the second time I decided to try growing okra, the first time was when I was in my early 20s and I still recall how pretty the flowers were like a mallow and how the pods were ripe so fast! I live in Washington State in zone 8b, and am taking advantage of the 100 degrees and 90 degrees weather! Why complain about no AC when we got food?
It is nice to meet you. 😊 We would love to see your garden way up north, I know it is beautiful! I have been in that neck of the woods before. If the climate in which you have no issues with mold, I would say yes to the mulch. At another location, we found the okra love the moisture that hay or straw provides. With soil that drains well, this is a great benefit to a garden. Our gardening set up at the other location, the whole garden was a no-till garden. We covered the ground around the base with recycled boxes out of the trash. Then we stacked about 5 inches of hay on top. When the hay flattened, it settled to about an inch and a half. It was 103° f that summer. The Okra thrived like I had never seen it before. Huge I tell ya! We had stalks that were 6 inches around at the base and 10 feet tall. Beautiful! I hope you can find something in our garden experience to help along the way. I really thank you for taking the time to chat. It is an honor on my part. ✌️
My birthday
Happy birthday to you, we hope your day is beautiful!
Sir how is the weather where you growing these.. For 3 weeks, it's a very slow growth
We are around 95 degrees fahrenheit during the day and 75° at night. . The okra plant thrives in heat. We would be happy to help, tell us a little more about your garden.
Plants can have male and female parts, but fruits themselves are the mature ovaries of flowers and do not have genders. The “lobes” are merely a result of the pepper’s genetic makeup and growing conditions. The number of lobes on a bell pepper (typically three or four) does not indicate its sex. Instead, the number of lobes is influenced by the variety of the pepper and the growing conditions. Three-lobed peppers are often thought to be better for cooking, while four-lobed peppers are sometimes considered sweeter and better for eating raw, but this is also anecdotal and not scientifically proven. Bell peppers reproduce through flowers that have both male (stamens) and female (pistils) parts. The fruit itself is a product of the fertilized flower, and thus, the concept of a pepper being male or female does not apply.
Thank you for your comment, we hope your day is enjoyable today. Peace
Very good teaching here 🙏
I unfortunately didn’t cut back my pepper plant either and it looks like the bushy okra plants you have.
We tend to the pepper plants in a different manner than we do for the okra plants. The pepper plants do not require pruning to encourage fruit production. When we prune the pepper plant, we keep the bottom foliage clear from touching the ground. We keep any dead or damaged leaves cleared as well. In doing so, our pepper plants get four or so feet tall and can get four feet in diameter. We harvested 2 gallons of preserved peppers off one plant this last year. I am still cooking out of that pile of peppers. ❤️ ❤️
We've been using the pruning methods that you have shown and it has been working wonderfully!! More okra, and easier to see/pick. Thank you for sharing!! We are now getting around a dozen each day, some days quite a bit more. Would you mind sharing some different ways you prepare and eat, or store/save all the okra it looks like you get from so many high producing plants? (We fry and stew some - tried pickling but haven't found the perfect pickling recipe yet)
We are pleased to hear about your progress. Thank you for taking the time to write to us to let us know your experiences. The honor is on our part. Preserving , this is a very important subject in garden planning. It determines how we grow. I have accepted your advice. I agree. There is a need for more information around preserving the okra. We will try to put together information on how we are preserving and share it.. We freeze most of our okra in whole pods. When we are ready to cook, we cut into bite-sized portions while frozen, and then they are battered and tossed strait to the skillet frozen. This will allow the okra to cook as fresh as possible. For us, we can not tell the difference between the frozen and the fresh picked when preserving this way. My favorite way to eat Okra is fried. We will share the recipe in the future. We do not pickle any of our okra, but if we were to do so, we would start our base with our cucumber pickling recipe. Then we would adjust to our taste. Thank-you again.
Thank you. Im dealing with this now
We are pleased you have found this information helpful to your garden. We don't have all the answers, but we are happy to always try to share best practices. Thank you for the positive feedback. ❤️
LTTL 👍
Gee wiz, I would love to pick your brain on the details of how to run a channel. I see you have insight.
Interesting!
Thanks
😂 “I won’t be your dinner, I’ll eat your dinner” -sincerely, the rooster 😂
Lol 😊
I used your pruning tip this year and I’m so happy with how big my plants are!
Thank-you for your feedback. It is much appreciated!
Oh no 😥 all of your labour. I hope it will stand back up. 🙏
It’s so exciting following your gardens progress. The green peppers from the mulch bucket look great! What do you do with the sunflower seeds? Just bird food and some for salads? Will you be showing us canning in the fall? So many questions 😅
13:54 yes it sure is gorgeous. Look how perfectly weeded it is!!!! 👏🏻
Really enjoyed the whole video. 23:15
It definitely ends on a good note
We are glad you can enjoy the garden with us. We are trying to do an introduction video to provide more insight into how we grow and garden. In many ways, our garden is unique to what is popular, we hope others can see this in our channel. The sunflowers seeds we use for the chickens, and for attracting pollinators, but most of all, the beauty is our favorite part. I do like sunflower seeds on a great salad. Canning is a big deal around here. There have been a few people who ask if we will show canning. Who knows, canning is a huge part of our preserving process. We definitely want to listen to all of our feedback. Thank you for all yours! 😊 ✌️
LTTL, got it 👍 ❤ 1:16
Looks amazing! I need to clear some more trees so I can get some more sunlight/space and really go ham like this haha.
Oh my Gosh, I am a hearing ya. I can just go out there and sit for hours in the garden. Next year, I'll do more space as well. I still have some plants bunched up. Thanks for checking out the garden! ✌️ to u
Thank you.I went right in the yard and cut off those excess leaves off .I will pass this on to those who LOVE okra.❤
If you find time to give us feedback, please do it in one or two weeks. Let us know if and how the plant responds after pruning this way? Was the fruit production growth faster? Thank you and grow much, okra!
@@RoosterHoller will do 🥰
They will stand back up mine did and they were smaller then yours. We didn't get that much rain though. Sorry pal
That is good to hear 😊, rain all night again lat night. I have plants covered in water. Since I am in the hills and our ground is about 70% sand, it drains fast. Goodmorning from my way.
I’m surprised how close you have your plants together. Do they start getting bunched up together?
I took your advice. You are correct. You made me realize I had been lazy. I thinned them out. Thanks 😍
You can say that again..
Lol, :-), thanks a million!
Where in Arkansas?

Look at all that potential sun scald from no leaves to shade the fruit!

The female has four "X" and the male has three "Y".
Your biology makes sense. Thanks for the comment. 🙂
One is good for eating and the other is better for cooking
@@anitabond2184 which one is better for eating?
Why would it matter?
It's matters bc u just learnt something!! Good work now remember what he said I know for some that may be the tricky part
thanks❤
Total B.S. 😂
Thanks for 🔊 out to us! Peace to ya!
😂😂😂😂he laughed at you in chicken. Well rooster😂😂😂
Lol, 😃 😊 ❤️ 💙 💜
Uh This is about as false of data as can be uttered. The flower ( Female part ) is pollenated by pollen ( The male part of plant ) and makes the pepper. OYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!
Pepper don't have sexes they have both male and female parts on the flower
All fruits are female. They are the ovary of the plant.
Excellent idea❤
Thank you for stopping by and leaving such kind comments! We have tagged you in our new garden tour video. Thanks for watching!
