Moral of the story: You can turn your Mac Mini into a supercomputer for the additional price of an iMac Pro.
@Aaron Hart Yup, that mac mini setup is very close to a 27" iMac specs-wise (fusion drive, not SSD) so why bother ?
That said, if you're say, a music producer who don't need 330$ keyboard, a 100$ mouse, 1400$ display, a 300$ egpu or a better graphics card for 200$, the mini is a great mac for an almost acceptable price.
@@saxyrep1 imacs don't come with Fusion drives anymore. They're all SSD. Pretty recent development, but as a bonus on the imac, a 5K display is included.
@@mexmiler You misunderstood me, what I meant was the price of the setup is closer to that of a fusion drive 27" iMac than the modern iMac pro which is still much more costly.
And again, the 5K display is an expensive toy useless for most people unless their work involves resizing 3D models or video editing or sthg similar.
DAWs don't require that and it uses quite a bit of ressources from your machine. So my point still stands : the mac mini is a very good option for pro music producers who want a powerful mac but don't NEED such displays, a costly mouse and keyboard etc.
@@saxyrep1 Sorry, yeah I did misunderstand you. You are definitely right about the Mac Mini being the best value if you don't need/want a 5K display or any serious graphics horsepower. Let's be honest, the average mac user is not using FinalCut to edit 4K video lol
Well I think this is for people who has a mini mac already...and want to "upgrade"

title should be: putting ram into a Mac mini, then buying accessories
That's the meaning of this show¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Well that's the way Macs are designed, unfortunately. Gosh darn it, Apple.
He didn't even put the maximum amount of RAM in there. Ultimate my ass.
😂👍👍👍
linus video would be called " mac mini is so shit it only has single channel RAM and costs more than a gtx 1080 PC "
Hi! I was wondering about getting a 2018 Mac Mini with the following specs: 3.2 6-core i7, 32 GB Ram, 1TB SSD, 10 Gb Ethernet, and adding an eGPU with a 16GB video card. Would that be good enough for 4K video editing in FCPx?

Building the ultimate Austin Evans mustache
TechDove now I found the comment
Austin with a mustache is a smaller version of Gus Johnson
The mustache makes Austin look like a side-character cop from a 90's movie. You know, the kind that gets their vehicle and gun robbed by the main character.
I wouldn't mind a RX580 on a Mac Mini. But, 4??? You guys took the icing off the cake there. LOL
The only ultimate thing he did for the Mac mini was the ram. lol
MZHawk Misleading title. Should be called “The ultimate Mac mini set up”
Nah, he could have got 64 gb of RAM for sure
He had to do all the other crap to make the video 10 minutes to make any type of money on it. I miss the days of quality videos.
I've never seen anyone plug in FOUR external GPUs into one device, though.
What we've got here is some handle bars! Along with some mustache wax courtesy of Hipster Douchebag No Shave Club.

half expecting this to turn into an “Epic PC Rig Time” (epic meal time) type video.
Hey, so I saw that you installed some kind of external graphics device thing,
I was wondering if there was something similar for RAM? I’m trying to speed up my Mac Mini 2014 model, which doesn’t have upgradable ram (it’s directly soldered into the board, which is super dumb) and I make videos, which is killing my 4GB of ram. Is there some kind of external RAM that I can plug in like those external GPUs?

With the cost of this, you should link 5 Mac mini’s together.
But what will never change is "hey guys this is Austin". 🤣
How to build the ultimate Austin? It's not with a mustache.
I used a program called "Macs Fan Control" to cool my mac. It gives you more control and let's you ramp up the fan speed significantly.

Logitech mice aren’t that good, they just seem to sponsor all the tech channels.
Good marketing, but not great products.
@@JakeM218 They are really good. Sure, for gaming, the mx master series sucks. But for video editing/photo editing, I can confirm (after using many mice) the mx master 3 is the best.

What do u think happens to these "projects" after Austin is done with them? Does he just take them back apart? Is there a storage room for the projects? Does he give it to someone?

Hey austin...how was your feeling zowie mouse than m65 pro
what program is that your using where it shows the GPU and frames per second
This'll be perfect for me to only run airmessage on and never actually use
Do you want a shaver my dude
That's cool. I really like the Luxmark test. I would love to know if FinalCut and Davinci Resolve can use the extra eGPUs. I would most likely use 2 Radeon VIIs if possible but 4 580s is really really cool. Thanks.
I did the most important parts of what was done here as soon as the 2018 mini was released, but on a smaller and more cost-effective scale: I found a good (560R/520W) 1TB SSD for $100 and put it in a case I had for extra storage; Newegg was running a sale on an LG 27" 4K monitor for $259 (plus a $20 coupon) the month of the mini's release; and I got the best deal on good (Crucial, if I remember right) RAM I could find. The only thing I would do better if I was spending more like these guys did would be to get 64GB of RAM. And maybe work harder to find a deal on a 2GB eternal SSD. Still, I ended up with a solid second rig for not too much money. Doing it now with an Apple refurbished mini still wouldn't be a bad idea.
"Building the Ultimate Mac Mini" ??? All you did was add memory to an existing Mac Mini. Would not call that building...
He is a Apple user,so......
All of his "Building the Ultimate (insert system here)" videos involve him taking something that's pre-built and adding external accessories.
He doesn't mean literally building. Actually this is the exception to the norm, usually he wouldn't be popping something open and it would just be goofy add-ons for a PS4 or whatever.
Clickbait
Ultimate ?? Still long way to go

hey
I`m new into the Mac mini performance, but I rather buy a mini than a Imac or book pro
the only down side for what i have learn ( or maybe not well informed ) they are not the greatest to edit videos and pictures
what is the external video card you will recommend so I can get the most of performance out of it
Nice video, but with the latest macbook 16" there Is some reviews that give it more powerful than Mac mini +egpu really?
Not digging the mouse, you go for a really nice looking sleek wireless keyboard and then go for a black RGB gaming mouse. I would have thought the Logitech Mx mouse would be better
Carwyn Van-de-Vyver yeah especially considering Macs cannot game.
what is the point of having a mac mini when you have a bunch of externals?
Why not?
@Reave Paleg So you can pay twice as much as a pee cee, that ends up taking twice the space with extra boxes and dongles, with half the performance. Magical RDF ecosystem.
I have literally never seen or heard of the Mac mini until I saw this video
