- Galveston's South Jetty is one of the most dangerous fishing spots on the Island. The beaches surrounding the Jetty are NOT swimming beaches. They are for taking a stroll, beach combing, shelling, birding and sightseeing, only. For a brief time in the Fall, the Jetty is one of the best places to fish the yearly "flounder run." Be safe.

👍🏼 U forgot to mention about the dangers of parking near the jetty. MANY 4wheel drivers have had to call a tow truck to get unstuck from the sand there.🤙🎣
Some stuff didn't make the cut, but you are right. The sand gets soft when it hasn't rained in a while and I have personally helped many people dig their tires out of the sand.

Unfortunately, more people have drowned at San Luis Pass. About 300 since records have been kept.
Was wade fishing and I had to swim back to shore. The tide had come in so fast.

You can enjoy the Jetty from the shoreline. The Jetty structure is too dangerous. I agree.
agree there’s better spots but I suppose you could wear jetty spikes and a helmet and a life jacket too maybe?😅 Man even I’ve busted my but on the slippery algae at Quintana jetty which is just across from Surfside. Jetty spikes for grip!
Man, when it's on, it is ON! I have so many good memories of fishing here. Midweek, no one else but me, a helicopter crew practicing rough water rescue in the in the distance and then - WHAM! 15 minutes of huge redfish just slamming my bait. So good.
