There is a great story in D.W.'s book about when he arrived at Junior Johnson's racing team. Junior expected his drivers to all work on the cars and not just sit around and be prima donnas so, he pointed to a stack of tires mounted on wheels and told D.W. to "Bounce them tars." So, He went out there to the stack and took each mounted tire and bounced it on the ground a few times and stacked it up and got another one. Eventually Junior came out and asked: "Son, what the hell are you doing?" D.W. told him he was bouncing the tires like he told him to. Junior shook his head and pointed to the tire balancing machine and told D.W. to "bounce them tars." (Meaning balance them tires) I cracked up when I read that.
Junior Johnson, D.W. and some mounted Tires, rolled, in, to a Bar. The Bouncer said "Get white out of here, mounted Tars! Else, i will black out your i's! I'm tard of you!" (Get it? They were "Hoosier" Tars.) Ed t: My i was Whited out.

My dad and I started going to the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway in 1970. I believe DW had moved down the year before. I saw him win a race on his roof. After several undefeated weeks I saw Dave Marcus beat DW in a match race. I saw him win his first Cup race in Nashville. So many great memories...

One of the best interviews on Dirty Mo. Stories by DW and historical facts by Jr. DW is always entertaining. Didn’t like him on the track, but always added colour.

Its crazy how much jr knows about what went on and not just kinda knows he knows per detail its crazy his knowledge is so extensive back when he was just a little kid when that all went on…
Bruce Jenner wasn't just a gold medalist. He was an accomplished IMSA driver with 18 podiums and 2 wins in a relatively short 10 year span.
Hell yeah. Switched gears quicker than he switched genders.
2 wins in 10 years is trash
Would this be considered dead naming? Bullshit if it was

A year later, this is still so good.
What most people don't know is that both Newman and Jenner were racing in IMSA and SCCA, and Newman was GOOD. Jenner was a pretty good driver too.
It's interesting to hear these stories about the various controversies then search for and watch the videos of the actual races he talks about, such as the '84 Coors 420 (Bonnet's pass under yellow) and the '83 Miller High Life 500 (Petty's "big motor" win).
Great interview, awesome to hear an ol’KY boy talk success along with his journey getting there.
I remember seeing DW & Bobby Allison run at Colorado Springs Internaional Speedway in 83. What a good ol Friday night short track night that was. If memory serves DW won that night I was 13 at the time.
DW is a treasure.
GREAT SHOW
Gotta love DW/ Rygarrd/Jr Johnson/N. Bonnett/Cale Y/R Petty/Earnhardt/Allison/Yates/Hendrick/Rudd/Gant stories being interviewed by Dale Jr& Dirty Mo crew!! Fuckin awesome podcast for sure!! Excellent job guys/gals! 💯🔥😆👍🏁🏁🏁
I Love for Dale to get DW, Larry Mac Richard Childress Michael, Schrader, & Maybe Mike Helton together at once & just tell old NASCAR tales & history, Current & more recent NASCAR tales & of course Dale tales. I wouldn’t care if it was a 10 part series man tht stories would be magnificent
Not Michael
One of the best interviews on Dirty Mo. Stories by DW and historical facts by Jr. DW is always entertaining. Didn’t like him on the track, but always added colour.
I knew this would be good. carry on DW!...
Always loved DW!
Darrell was nearly replaced by Dale Sr in the 11 for '84. A number of years ago Junior Johnson told the story how he had the Sr and Wrangler deal and Coors for incoming Bonnett. Budweiser came in to play with twice the money, so Childress got the Sr/Wrangler deal and Harry Melling got Coors for Elliott.
Y’all got to get Cale Yarborough on the podcast
Love DW, Thanks Jr!
