  • Runva Hook vs Thimble - Which Is Better For You?
When it comes to choosing between a hook or thimble there’s a few differences which we’ll run through in order to help you choose the right option for your preference.
The hook has a nice wide opening which makes throwing a tree strap through it super easy when you’re in a hurry. The heavy duty gate and spring mean that there’s no chance of a strap coming loose when there’s no tension on the winch.
If you do need a shackle, the hook also gives you plenty of space for both a D shackle or a soft shackle, to be quickly attached to get you out of trouble fast
The thimble is not only much more compact, but it is also perfect for those who are running soft shackles instead of the old d-shackles.
With a fully closed eyelet at the end, it negates the chance of a gate failing if cross-loaded.
The thimble also creates a much safer point of failure in the event that a soft shackle lets go. Instead of a large hook potentially breaking into pieces with the gate and potentially hook coming free of the rope to all be flying through the air, a thimble, being a one piece construction, will naturally want to drop and hit the deck.
With all of this in mind, there is no right or wrong answer when it comes to choosing between a hook or a thimble.
