  • Situation: I spent way too long looking at winches before finally buying the Warn Evo VR 12S.
I was looking for 12,000lb pull, synthetic line, low weight and a good warranty.
    Winches Considered:
    Badland Apex $629
    SuperWinch SX12 $739
    Smittybilt X2O $700
    MileMarker SEC12 $735
    Ironman 4X4 Monster $720
    Warn VR EVO $824

Spectacular video, the ghost ship analogy was perfect because I’ve always worried about cables breaking. And I myself have always wanted to warn winch since I’ve been a kid, I will be purchasing one next month.

10K lbs is plenty of pull for that. Bring an extra 100ft of synthetic line. That way if you are really, really stuck, you can use a snatch block and double your pull strength. But if you aren't up to your frame rails in super sticky mud, 10k is more than enough

@@snaph Yeah i totally understand your thought process behind your decision. I was off of the Badland but now I think it’s a better fit for my needs especially if I can get it for 599 during a sale to offset the warranty. Here’s why it would work for me. I want a mobile winch for the rear receiver hitch, the trailer, and a lift system for the garage. On the other hand, for one for the front bumper..... EVO all the way. I just can’t find it for less than 964 or something like that. It’ll be over a thousand after shipping or tax. Maybe they have gone up since your video... not sure. But thanks for letting me know about the Evo line of Warn winches.

Lots of good info. I always wanted a Warn, but ultimately I got the Badland ZRX 12000 for $300 on sale. I figured it will get my feet wet for a low price point, and I can still get a Warn down the road if I find the winch is something I use a lot. The thing about a winch is that my friends with them, most have told me they have used it only a couple times at the most. Also, the VR series Warn winch is made in China and that is kind of disappointing for a winch that has the Warn name on it. Thanks for the video...

    • @snaph

At $300 I would have done the exact same thing!
It does suck that for under 1k there are no made in the US 12k winches I could find. The Warn M8000 is us made but I worried it didn’t have the umph if I get the cruiser really stuck.
I think you’re right about how often you use it. I’ve used it 3X so far in 5mo.

Absaloutly no need for a 12. If you do get a 12 be sure the bumper/plate is rated for a 12. Most arent and they will flex and crack the winch housing.

    • @snaph
      @snaph  2 роки тому +2

Very good point. The bumper I got is rated for that. 12 is hopefully overkill but keep in mind the rating drops with each line wrap. It’s also not much of a money or weight penalty for 12 vs 10 which would probably be the minimum for my rig. But appreciate the input and very good warning about the bumper
