Thank you! I have an exam tommorow and I didn't have time to read the whole dialog, but with you I feel so prepared! The best thing about these 18 minutes is, that I actually understand what you were saying, not like from other college profesors. A huge thank you!

I absolutely love it! So much fun, yet so complete. As a programmer I am in a constant need for words. Nouns in the first place. Words for attributes, words for state. Verbs. Words for collections (of nouns, usually), words for collections of collections etc. Without going overboard I often choose words like Garden (Noun), Tree (Collection), Apple (Noun. Many apples on a tree) to construct program logic around well-known stories, to guide the mind (so to speak).
I would be wonderful if you could suggest words from (greek, Plato) philosopy to expand on the usual (and useful) concepts Soul, Body, Mind, Life, Hand etc. Greek soundiing words. Eventually I will hack them together to USSR-like concepts like PsyKos, Doksa and Tekne, but I am in need of guidance.
The show is marvellous, deep and funny. Who could ask for more? Happy New Year!

Bra, payche=Greek, techne=Greek, doksa? Not sure but pretty sure it’s Greek. You Russian barbarians got educated and civilized by the Greeks, that’s why your alphabet is based on a Greek one and a bunch of your vocabulary is Greek

At 4:05 when you said moment instead of person it opened an understanding for me. What is a person other than a moment, much like a rainstorm, or a patch of sun. Existing for a moment, exerting their will on the world, until the moment is over. Huh…

We currently don’t have Meno, unfortunately! When figuring out which of Plato’s texts to include in the series, Meno didn’t seem like one people wanted to see 😖 But if you’d be interested in watching a little summary video on the text, we’d love to make one and have been waiting for an excuse to!!! 😂

GJ! Your missing the most important part to the Phaedo though. Not your fault most philosophers miss it. Everyone reads it and it just goes right over thier heads. As it just doesn't register at first. Honestly it took me years of reading Plato on & off. Before it dawned on me what I was missing
You don't see it until you've read Phaedo at least 4 or 5 times. But when you do???? 😳🤯💥
It's the key to Plato/Socrates's entire philosophy. Theory of the Forms. Knowledge as Recollection. Immortality of the Soul. The One Over Many. (Or if you're an American E Plubris Unum. From Many One. The "Opposite" of One over the Many ) What else? 🤔 Oh well shit. Basically everything Plato writes about.
Why? Well Plato thinks in at a minimum in 3s or Tripartite ideas. Sometimes he'll go to 4. Even 5. But at a minimum all of his ideas have to be explainable with at least 3 premises.
Why? Because Plato is using Thales Proportionally Theorm as his system of logic. Which is that if you divide a circle with a line ending at 2 points on the oppisite ends of the circle. Any two lines drawn to a 3rd point on the circle from the two OPPISITE POINTS will form a Right Angle Triangle. Ergo a an "argument" based on Correct Reason.
Plato's student Aristotle would later go onto to call this the "syllogism." Another one of Plato's pupils. A guy by the name of Euclid. (may have heard of him) Would go onto write Elements.
Thales Porportionality Theorm. That is what Plato is using as his logic. Parts or whole aspects of it. Show
up in Meno, Republic, and Timaeus.
A rule of thumb to always follow when reading Plato. When ever Plato says anything that has to do with any kind of arithmetic or geometry? He's about to drop the hammer on yo ass. 😆 Plato always uses math. Whenever he's about to get serious.
So what important math point does Plato bring up in Phaedo? Why is it the key to understanding Plato and Socrates philosophy? And what does it have to do with Thales Proportionally Theorm or geometry in general?
Well you see. There's ONE super duper ultra important concept. In fact? Speaking of geometry. You can't even do that without understanding this point. Which is explained in
    Phaedo 74 a-e
    And that is? Drum roll......
    The Idea of....
    EQUAL or "="
Go back and read Phaedo 74's. Everything will all make complete sense. It will literally break your mind. That you read it several times before. But never saw it! 🤣
