Marlon Urias, what power adaptor are you using? a standard 5v charger? I think the battery in the mojo is 7.4 volts. Did you hear any difference in sound quality? Thanks in advance.
I use a battery and a linear power supply and if there is a difference it is small. I have put heat sinks on the chips inside the mojo. I have also added copper tape inside for shielding. Always messing about my components. Just redirecting cables inside my cd transport made a big difference in performance .
Great video!!! The Mojo is a great product, but Chord doesn’t seem to want to be bothered with taking good care of consumers who purchase their products.
This is, and will reamain, a GREAT video for any Mojo user. My Mojo, while sitting idle for a while, got back into use during this COVID year. However, it wouldn’t charge. With the help of this video, I took mine apart, removed the battery and (here’s where the vid helped the most) put it back together without the battery, so now it’s a DOJO - desktop joy - rather than a MOJO. Why wouldn’t it charge? The LI battery was swollen and ready to POP. Moral of the story: If you have an early model MOJO, even if you don’t need to replace the battery, you owe it to yourself to look at the insides and make sure YOUR battery isn’t ready to pop.
@@ChristopherYork1978 Mine is working fine without the battery... AFTER I fiddled around with the interior setup, to get it correct after I took out the ready to explode battery. Of course, it will need to be constantly plugged in via the power USB link.
Mine worked with out battery as well. It worked over 2 years with same battery, then it started to cut off the power if i had it powered on more than 24 hours straight (which i basically though was just good punishment for not shutting the thing down). Now after ~5 years it was suddenly totally dead. Would not power on and I remembered seeing this video as well as someone stating that it works with out battery. Seems to work perfectly fine. There is very low coil whine sound, but that was there with battery as well. As someone who don't really need battery feature I rather like how removing it also made mojo a lot lighter, and yea not having to pay to be able to continue using this awesome dac is big bonus.
This is fantastic, thank you for your 25 minutes 28 seconds of speech and X hours of overall work around this video that you bring to us Subscribed for eternity, you have my sincere regards.
Thank you for the great info. I will no longer worry about the Mojo's battery if I ever need to replace it or end up selling the unit. Luckily, I live in the UK and I own a 1.5mm allen key!

You don’t have to get the exact replacement. Just as long as you match the chemistry, the voltage, and the current handling specs it won’t hurt to use a slightly smaller battery, and you can cut off the connector and solder the wires directly onto the mojo. Of course, if you know how to do all this in the first place, you probably didn’t need me telling you.
I've been in touch with Chord, and they say they charge £80 to replace the battery, inc return shipping. I'm in the UK, mind you. I do fancy tackling the job myself though, having seen your very helpful vid. I've found a battery claiming to be 'suitable for the Chord Mojo' for £20. It's 7.4 volts, and 'compatible with ARL9047', so not the same number as you give in the video. Should I steer clear of that?
As long as the voltage, connector and size are right, then it should work. If the manufacturer or seller claims it is compatible then that’s also helpful. The original Mojo battery probably costs a few dollars at most for Chord, so the fact that you found one for this price isn’t surprising. I’d probably give it a go
Amazing video, I was exactly with mojo battery problems, I was thinking of buying another one, you solved my problem. I already bought the battery Thank you
Is there some special way of unplugging the battery that white little part because mine won’t come apart gently or not ? i’m afraid I’m gonna break something if I pull it too hard?
So far so good. It’s starting to show faster depletion but it’s a lot better still than the original I had in it. Based on usage, I think the battery may need to be replaced every few years.
@@NoThemeReviews Thanks man - that's extremely useful to know! I'm thinking about buying one (there's literally a handful left - rumours are Chord have ceased production and will be imminently announcing the Mojo 2).

I'm not a technician and cannot tell you how it can be fixed. But you can perform some steps to figure out if Chord is lying to you. Obviously, you should be very careful if you decide to open the Mojo and look inside. The battery has a high discharge. It is possible the battery is faulty. I suppose it is also possible that the mainboard is faulty...but there's one way to check. Does your Mojo work when plugged into a power source? If so, it may not be the mainboard since a mainboard failure typically means the unit won't work at all. Further, the surface heat could be explained by a quickly discharging battery. You can try this ONLY if you feel confident you can do it safely: unscrew the back and disconnect the battery. Take the battery out. Look at it closely. If it seems bloated or puffy, you have a bad battery and you MUST get rid of it by sending it to an e-Recycler. If the battery seems okay, then plug in the Mojo into power with the battery still out and unconnected. Does the Mojo power on and work? Does it still have surface heat? If the answer is yes it powers on and there is no surface heat, then the most likely thing is that you need a battery replacement.
By default these Mojo's do get extremely hot after a few hours of use. Generally nothing to worry about as they are designed this way & the case acts as a excellent heatsink.
