- There are many upgrades to our sims that we make. Usually it focuses on our main components, but sometimes it is the secondary components that give pro sims that special touch.
A Rev Bar / or RPM Bar can be a nice addition to your sim and it will add new visuals to your ride. It is an easy project that almost anyone can tackle and on top of that it is very inexpensive.
In this video Shaun Cole of The Simpit shows you how to make your own rev bar for under $20. He shows you the parts, how it goes together and how to program it.

Nice redo of the live stream Shaun. All the parts for this are in my Amazon cart waiting to check out. Can’t wait to see what other DIY projects you have in store for us. Thanks for all you do in the Sim racing community
You definitely made it seem easier than on the live broadcast.... I’ve ordered the parts and will give it a go. Thanks Shaun
Alerady using it about 3 years. And realy happy. Please notice, guys. You can add right here GEAR display!!! This is my favorite thing ;)
Thank you for this, I've been watching you since the ISR days, keep up the good work
This was really a fun little project. FYI , I needed to update my version of SimHub to get it to recognize the nano - but after that , no problems. Thanks, Shaun. I love DIY stuff.
AWESOME STUFF! New to Sim racing and stuff like this helps take it to that next level. Keep these videos coming.
Thank you for this can't wait for more DIY projects..prob my favorite part of sim racing
I have made my t3pa pros hydraulic with a pressure sensor..mainly use vr but thinking of going to triples and stuff like this is great for people on a budget
Hey Shaun, you got me pumped to give this a try sometime. It's been a while since I had a bit of fun with a project like this, great video buddy.
That is a pretty cool little project. Not too complex and very functional. Thanks Shaun. I might try this myself once my rig is all finished.
That looks awesome, I think I'll give that a go! Thanks Shaun!
This is really cool, Shaun. Thanks!
This is the kind of thing that made you a Legend, Sir. 👍
This looks amazing. I think I will have to do this along the bottom bezel of my sim monitor. Maybe small ones up the sides too for various different things. Maybe Lockup and TC indicators for GTE cars.
Love the DIY! I made one and it works great and it was easy.
Awesome video! Looks like a fun project.
Excellent and informative little video! Now I just need to come up with a cover story to tell my wife for why I suddenly so urgently need to go to the hardware store!
I upgrade my wheel shaun to a TS-PC
Be here Sunday!
Can't wait :-)
Awesome video Shaun 👍
Thank you shaun. Gave me some ideas here. Might have to share my button box with you when I finish the upgrades :-)
LOVE THIS! great price, and even i can do it. keep this stuff coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really cool video!
Build a pretty nice rev and flag indicator with this as an inspiration. Keep on going!
Thumbs up an best regards from Germany. :-)
I just thought about this the other day! Thanks
more more more Shaun
great stuff
Great tutorial!
Thanks for this 😀
very details,thanks
Thank you so much. I ordered only 2x of 8bit ws2812, 16 LEDs to use on my f1 set up and maybe carve a small thick MDF board to case the whole thing. It cost me a total of 7usd.
Can you have too of these working on the same SimHub but doing different things? I was thinking of making one for the revs at the bottom of my screen and one on the top for the flags etc.
Great video, theres options to even buy the arduino nano thta comes with the screw expansion boards so you don't have to solder anything!
My arduino nano required me to play around with the bootloader settings, but apart from that everything went smooth, thank you so much!
That's great to hear, thanks!
Im here a year later trying to upload a new sketch and windows made these cheap arduino nanos impossible to use bc of a "fake ch340 chip"
very cool man.
Thanks so much!
Hi, great info. I have a question though. Can I use a micro instead of a nano? Or do rgb only work with the nano. Thanks
Cool video! How many LED can you you run directly from the USB (without external power supply, y want to add a 60led for flags behind my monitor, is that possible? Or is it too much led? Thank you!
Hey Shaun. I have designed a 3d printed enclosure to attach this make to a CSW 2.5. It may work with a CSL elite as well.
Would it be okay to post a thingiverse link in the comments?
on question. can the leds be used to display the current gear you are on, like 1 led 1st gear... and so on? thanks!!
can this be used for a real car?
Can u do one for a stock or build car ..like stock subarus ..should do video on a car connecting to car ecu ..I'll be pumped
Is there a version of it compatible with tachometer signal to be used on vehicles? 🤔
Could this work with the signal from a tachometer, to use it in a real vehicle?
Hi, is there any way to do button box with rpm gauge with 1 aurdino? I want to convert one of my rims to usb
What’s the max amount of lights that could be run??? Could I run an entire 3ft strip with the nano??
No.. The pin on the board will burn. Even I'm not sure the maximum amount. I'd suggest you to power the LEDs from a 5v USB port.
What gauge is the wire? 22 or 18g?
@the simpit will this work on a real car?
Hi when i connect the USB arduino i do not have com port 3 ? please help
Would it work on both a computer and a PS4?
How to install to motocycle with signal line?
I do not understand Arduinos too much. Isn't there a way to make this rpm bar analog?
then USB connect with PC,need to install driver on PC?
I'm trying to get me RPM Gauge to work I have went step by step and it will not show the port needed it only shows Com 1 what am I doing wrong? it does try to load 10 Times the it failed
Same issue as Tony here Shaun - any ideas for a fix?
Tony, I updated my Com Port drivers with the help of a UA-cam video search and mine is now working.
@@velocitybraker991 got it to work after downloading the drivers and i had to use the new not the old thank you so much i love it
Can you do the same thing to add brake lights also?
Yes, you can through simhub
@@TheSimpit will I need 2 separate arduinos or can use same one?
Can that work into a car Rpm ??
Does simhub work for xbox?
Any way to work this on a real Bike?
Can u do this on a actual car not just game
Love the stuff you do Shawn BUT, you really cannot solder to save your life. Please ‘tin’ all parts to be soldered first, then solder with just a little more heat than you do now. You can see if its a good joint by looking at the joint:if its shiny it’s good. If its dull it’s bad joint. Sorry to point out but you need to improve!
Wait this isn’t for a real car ?
100k sim lol 😂
Just so you know, SOLDER is pronounced Solder, not sodder. There is an "L" in solder. It is not silent "L"... it is pronounced as it is spelt.
Why do you Americans call it sodder. Sodder is someone who works with soils. A sod is a clump of soil/dirt etcetera.
Why do you folk persist in mis- pronouncing SOLDER. It rather make you folks out to be Kentukyens. It is pronounced SOL as in "soul" and add the DER as in "der" or "duh". :-)
arrrrdddduino dio boia.. pronunciatelo bene
Aree takle how to install it in car who will tell
