Thats why before the fight starts, he treats you with respect. Yet as a king, he has a duty and that duty is well beyond his own life. Thats why he destroys the mercy button, because his resolve and pride as a king wont allow it. Saying he doesnt want to kill the child is entirely missing the point of the character. He needs to kill the child and he will. But at the very least, he wont do it prematurely like he did with the other 6.

He talked a big game to give the monsters hope, but thats it. he didnt ALL OF A SUDDEN gain a heart right before achieving his goal. Toriel admitted as such, if he really wanted to, he could take one heart, pass the barrier, kill 6 more random kids and come back to free the monsters. he doesnt. because he doesnt want to hurt anyone. but he cant admit that, or his people would despair.

He is a man with the responsibility of a king and the grief of a father who had just lost his son. Yet he tries to be the better person and does not openly seek violence but rather shows no mercy to those that openly approach him despite everything. Literally declaring war shouldve been an obvious sign of his anger but people somehow have these rose colored glasses on and see every character as pure maidens with no bad feelings. People can still be kind while still wanting revenge, its called respect and dignity.

It's quite the interesting take that she feels killing him is a mercy given the crimes she's already committed. I'm usually not big on letting streamers/letsplayers go ham on Undertale in case they only commit to one run and get left on the unsatisfying (by design) neutral ending. But there's no doubt that if they DO commit to it, it will probably be the most meaningful experience they can have. I let my wife run through as she wished while ensuring she was aware of her options. She's got that sadistic "kill EVERYONE" edge about her in games, but I was thrilled to see her become too attached to characters like Papyrus to go all put that way. Luckily, she was dissatisfied enough with the neutral outcome (and amused enough by the game's characters and humor) that she opted for a Pacifist run immediately after. She never felt the kind of guilt Rushia has here though... I really hope she decides to finish the game properly, because I think it'll be incredible.
I do find this funny. If you kill him he can die thinking he helped a kid find his way home If you spare him he gets full of joy only to die miserably seconds later

I don't think it's overrated, just overused. If it wasn't played as a meme every 2 seconds, it'd still be one of the best battle themes in the game. I personally prefer Death by Glamour, but I still think Megalovania is fantastic.
