I'm a low rev bowler. I had to knock the shine off of my coil. Once I did that, it really woke up. Love the motion of it.

I am a 200 average bowler. Just bought a DNA coil and bowled with it once.
    I scored 239 average for 4 games.
    AMAZING BALL!

Hmm i am still trying to figure out the DNA or the theorem. I like the shape on the theorem.
I throw the OG dna and i love it. It rolls amazing for me. I consistently shoot 200+ with it.

When are you going to do the DV8 Hater review?

How often should these new balls be treated in some way to remove oil from them, and what is the proper, or safest way to remove oil from modern bowling balls? Also, how often should they be lightly sanded, to return their surface to the factory like equivalent? I recently purchased a Harsh Reality ball which performed fantastic the first two weeks, but after bowling in three leagues each week, it has dropped off significantly. I used a 1000 grit pad to restore the surface, which helped, but being a noob at this stuff, I’m looking for professional advice.

Well first off, no bowling ball maintains out of box performance more than 30 games. It’s just not possible.
So, the next best option for solid cover balls is the keep the surface fresh. Having a good 2000 pad in the bag and doing that every few weeks is as far as I’d go.
I’ve baked balls. I’ve soaked balls. I’ve done all the tricks. The only one that kind of works is the Detox machine, but even that doesn’t really do what you want it to do.
Best option is to adjust to what the ball is giving you. Even if it shapes less, that doesn’t make the shape bad, so lean into what you have and make it work.
Or have every company ship you one of everything and never worry about that again (obviously joking here)

@@bowlersparadise2255 Thanks for the quick reply and advice. I’m 68 and just started bowling again after a gap of about 35 years. I only bowled in a league two years before, so I’m still learning how to bowl correctly. I’m hoping that I can improve my revolutions and hook, but I don’t know if I can change my technique at my age, or if I should just work with my existing technique and be satisfied?

Ben I’ve got an Optimum Idol coming in shortly, and we have very similar styles. Would you recommend a certain layout for it? Thanks!

Ben I am a SPI guy and exactly what you recommended for my low rev bowl motion yet I’m caught between the Coil and the new Effect, any suggestions for which you think may be a better fit ?

    • @bowlersparadise2255

If you like SPI, run with the Coil. It and the Effect aren’t THAT much different, and the Coil will play off of other SPI balls more effectively.

Hey Ben, I’ve been looking to replace my reality check. I currently run a phase 2, clone, and my reality check. I’m a stroker, higher speed, lower rev rate player. I’ve been looking at the dna coil, summit peak, or sublime. Out of these three which would be best to replace my reality check? Or any other recommendations? Thanks.

    • @bowlersparadise2255

If you’re looking for a straight replacement, an Attention Star sanded to 4000 grit will likely get you the closest. Harsh reality is going to have a lot more cover than the check. Summit peak and Sublime aren’t really close. Coil is a maybe, but the midland is different (there’s a long list of reasons why but I’ll save the craziness). Hope that helps!

How different is it from the VEBO and Attention Star?
