Hammer Scorpion Strike Review (4K) | Bowlers Paradise

Welcome to Bowlers Paradise!
It's technically new, but made up of old parts. The Scorpion strike is simply the Hk22'd up version of the scorpion sting featuring the LED 3.0 core derived from the core in the Purple hammer wrapped in the HK22 Semtex pearl cover.
With it being a pretty basic release, I went with a basic 4.5x3.5x3.5 2LS layout This layout is meant to help the scorpion be strong and stable. Obviously this one isn't going to have a problem getting down the lane, so in theory this should help use up most of the core's potential energy while the shorter Pin to CoG distance keeps its from being too sideways down lane.
AND ON THE LANES… - There's only one word to describe this ball reaction. unpredictable. The layout didn't do much of what I had hoped it would do and once I finally go to what seemed like the right spot on the lane, the reaction just wasn't there. Until I moved WAY inside, it gave me the quintessential over/under reaction where when I miss outside, it hooks too much, but miss inside and it flys past the spot.
But just because it wasn't what I thought it would be, I will say that it looked great up the outside part of the lane. When the scorpion strike was able to bleed off some energy in the first 20', the motion to and through the pins was great, so there's a good chance that adding some surface might be the answer to the unpredictability, but out of box, it sure seems like this one is caught in between being too many things.
And that leads me to my list of downsides. I was on the hunt the entire time throwing this piece and it just never told me where it wanted to be on the lane, or what to do with it to make the right thing happen. This is genuinely surprising as I almost always match up with pieces like this, but much like the summit peak, I had to be close to perfect to get all 10 to fall over.
So to get the best out of this piece, I would consider pairing it with a Black Widow 3.0 and an Envy Tour Pearl. Each of these pieces is great when you can keep them in front of you and up the lane, so my guess is that once you knock the shine off of the scorpion, it'll be able to get left of both of those pieces and bounce of the friction they create.
Jumping to our cross brand comparisons, I first took a look at the Xponent Pearl from 900 Global and here I see a Very similar shape. the Xponent May be a touch stronger but probably just from the surface grit under polish, but for both pieces, you either need to get it to slow down in the mid-lane or be super clean and flip off the spot late, but outside of those, your results will be mixed at best.
Then I took a look at the Nuclear Forge from Motiv, and here it's pretty notable how some more differential and a more responsive cover gets it to slow down more effectively and square up to the pocket from multiple angles. Don't get me wrong, the Nuclear Forge will still suffer from some over/under reaction, but the additional core strength makes it a more versatile piece.
But with that, here’s my recommendations on types of bowlers that I think would match up well with this piece. The first is balanced or stroker style bowlers. If you're game is all about being nice and easy to it at the bottom of your swing, the scorpion strike will likely treat you well. The trick here is being able to stay in the friction, and these players tend to have the greatest opportunity to do that well.
The second recommendation is for low rev and low ball speed players. I'm thinking of the old guys with this one. If your struggling with pieces either being too strong to use or to weak to carry, the scorpion strike might be the one for you. You'll be able to play it in the heart of the lane and control the cliff much better than I can and still have enough energy downlane to kick the corner pins out.
The new Scorpion Strike might just be a new combination of old variables, but in the right hands, could be what you need to strike down your competition.

Now will this ball keep on doing what it's doing..later on down the road..like few months from now...?...just asking
@bowlersparadise2255 how would you compare it to the envy tour ?
Oh! you're a 1 hand no thumb bowler. 😁That's amazing. Now I have a review channel that I can watch and give me more insight on bowling balls I'm looking at. sweet.
Could I replace my proton with this ball potentially. What's your opinion on it
I don't see why you couldn't. The shapes aren't going to be the same, but they're similar in strength overall.
@@bowlersparadise2255 ok interesting
I noticed in the recent reviews your rev rate went up! Have you done anything special to increase it?
Just remeasured to keep getting y'all the most accurate info!
Hammer Hazmat Solid looks too strong, even for tournament play lol. If i were to bowl with this, i would definitely change the finish, maybe a 3000 or 4000. I wish that the bowling brands would focus more on making better options for dry, light, and medium options. Thanks for the video
I agree.. but that is what the scorpion series is for. Been working great for me. However they needed a strong symmetric piece. Can't see myself using this though as it is just too much.
I'm still using the Xponent as my benchmark ball. Think I'll just stick with that.
Wouldn't blame you if you did. Xponent is great.
Bowled for the first time on a sport shot, the usbc masters 2024. I average around 220-225 on house, but in my first 3 games I averaged 170. My friend said I could use his ion, so I was like why not. My last three games I shot 254, 221, and 234. I need to get this ball asap lol
You should just steal his. Clearly it works just right lol.
all "benchmark" is nowadays is a buzzword to try and ramp up sales. they keep using it ad nauseam so it must be working
Gotta follow the money!
I’m really excited to see the Vaporize video when that comes out. Any plans to review it?
That one hasn't shown up yet, but it's on the schedule to get reviewed. Hopefully no production delays get in the way!
This ball looked a little angular, could a different layout help that ?
Surface cures all angularity issues.
@@bowlersparadise2255 I didn't want to add surface to the ball, I bowl in a house that is medium dry and adding surface will just send me to far left. Is there a way to layout the ball to keep it from being angular? Have you bowled with long enough to notice if the cover takes down after some time?
Frankly speaking, I do not believe the Ion Pro was really designed to be widely used by THS league bowlers. This is truly a tournament ball intended to be thrown on tougher lane conditions when the IQ Tour Edition is not enough ball.
Maybe. I can't speak to their intent, I can only speak to what I see.
This is what the people have been waiting for. We can rest easy now.
Time for a nap!
@@bowlersparadise2255 how is it compared to envy tour ?
@@bowlersparadise2255
Hello Ben, I’m a rev dominant 2 hander who has a proton physix and a spare ball. I’ve been looking to get a ball to compliment the proton, but I’m no sure if I should get a benchmark ball like the Ion, or a pearl ball. If you could give me a few pointers, that would be awesome. Thank you in advance
I wouldn't add an asym if you're rev dominant. Something like an iQ tour ruby, Xponent Pearl or Lightning Blackout would be where my attention would go.
@bowlersparadise do you think that the ion pro will replace the Phaze 2?
How would you compare the Ion Pro to the Black Venom and the Blue Coral Venom?
This one is definitely way closer to the black venom than the blue coral. Weak core, strong cover, lots of pop off the spot.
@@bowlersparadise2255 how does the blue coral compare for you? JR seemed to say the opposite
The Blue Coral is 2 full zones weaker than this one.
Much appreciated, thanks!
Thanks for this review. Are you going to review the X-cell also?
Same Question Here! Can’t wait to watch.
I have to use thehype & Ben's reviews, there's no 2handed reviewers out there 😭
Ben is the only Two Finger no Thumb bowler like my self who does review so I def understand 😂😂
Yes that will be out next week!
👍👍👍
Omg! I was waiting on this review. How would you compare this to the Phaze 2 and other bowling benchmark type bowling balls? Also, i noticed in your video that the ball did a double dribble. Do you think that contributed to the ball hooking sooner than expected?
I'd start by saying the Phaze 2 is better lol. This one is much more like a juiced up iQ tour with a clean look for about half the lane, and then that hook set roll type of shape whereas the phaze 2 tends to blend out friction more evenly. As for the double dribble, if anything, that would make it hook later as the ball can't hook in the air. It only happens for my on HPL lane surfaces, and not all the time either. Not something I really work on, but shouldn't impact the ball motion all that much. Appreciate the questions!
@@bowlersparadise2255 Man this is why i'm subbed! You give great advice and always take time to answer the questions from your loyal subjects...i mean fans lol. Thanks! This actually helped me make a decision on getting the Phaze 2.
Track just makes good stuff. Thanks for the review Ben!
Track makes great bowling balls. If half their releases had a hammer logo on them they be the biggest balls in the game.
Hey man big fan of your review…. I’m learning the one hand no thumb delivery any advice or drills I could use to help me learn?
Search radical bowling or bowling science. Mo (rip) has all the info you are looking for.
Best advice. Just commit to 2 handed. But if you don't want to take that advice, I'll be working on some more instructional type stuff once season comes around.
I have and enjoy the red one. Can’t say I see much difference
I use this and a sneak attack when the lanes are dry. Those boring shapes win tournaments
How would this ball compare to the Ebonite orange Fireball and Roto Grip Hustle M&M? I ask because i have the Hustle M&M and i received the orange Ebonite Fireball as a present. Just seeing where the Fireball would fit in the bag. Any suggestions welcomed, thanks for the videos!
Very limited differences there. Your bowling money would likely be spent more effectively on a different piece.
Looks a good ball, the blend of colours, graphics and shape off the dry I think had some appeal, matched up with orange inserts/slug I think it'll look pretty tasty to some 🙂
How did I missed this ball?
Not sure but I’m glad you found it!
Do you throw 14lbs ?
Yes
I'm fairly new so i apologize if you've already stated this but are you a one handed 2 finger? Because i am also and if so, you the shiznit!!!
That is correct.
So when storm balls finish is Reacta Gloss what grit is underneath the polish? I changed the surface on my L-BO and want to return it to factory
Green Lantern flash back 😳
The OOB shots had me concerned. Shots to the right can be costly with this one.
You are the only person that has made this ball look decent from the start. Perhaps it's the lane shine, but everyone else I have seen throw it, the ball just rolls forward with no back end or continuation.
Works great for me... I'm fairly rev/speed balanced, about 17 mph off my hand. I actually drilled it at Nationals after bowling the Journal...I knew I was gonna need help on doubles/ singles, cause nothing I had with me was hooking. 40 x 5 1/4" x 30. I was surprised how useful it is on a house shot when I got back. It's great on the fresh, but doesn't last much past game 1 in league. Shot 280 with it last Thursday.
@@notonyourlife7939 What is your PAP and tilt? Where does that layout put the pin in relation to the fingers? Perhaps the 40 deg drill angle helps
@@JAW_73 5 1/16" x 1/4", and ~ 12°
@@JAW_73 5 1/16" x 1/4" up, and about 12° of tilt
@@notonyourlife7939 Guessing you get around it a decent amount?
I've got my Evoke and my Arctic Vibe squared away now, but I'd like to get into a good Pearl. I really loved how my old Intense Inferno played, and according to Tenpin Toolkit, the closest ball to my old Inferno is the Brunswick Endeavor. Would you think I'd be able to get the deep angles I used to play with the Inferno from the Endeavor, too?
Cryptoboom has pretty much the same core as inferno
@@gattsgodai3 I'll check it out
thanks for video, idea if not terribly too much work; anyway you could make recommendation specific playlists? As in low tilt, rev dominate, two handed, etc playlist?
X-cell review ? 👀
I like how you find ways to say nice things about a ball when you really don't like it
You are always instructional as usual. Thank you so much 🙏
Our pleasure!
Are you a no thumb
Yessir
Can something be both “all new” and also use a “tried and true coverstock”? 😂
Apparently so? 🤷♂️
I love my ExtremeEnvy, got my highest score ever with it (268). Buuuuut, I had recently had the oil taken out (de-oil 🤷🏾) & resurfaced back to factory (after about 20+ games) & now it just rolls down lane. I don't know what to do... any suggestions???
Hey about your specs, what is your ball speed? Off hand or down lane. Please and thank you!
Hey bud. Speed off my hand tends to be about 18mph but it can vary quite a bit based on what I'm trying to do to the ball. I don't include it as a spec because of that variability and until I have SPECTO access, I'm likely to keep it that way. Thanks for asking!
@bowlersparadise2255 just that ballpark helps! Especially for deciding how to tweak layouts you use to fit my game! I'm about 2-2.5mph faster off hand and about 100-120rpm more. So I think I'd need slightly stronger pin placements to see shapes you see. Thoughts? Thanks for your help and the vids
Ball looked fantastic for you
Agreed!
I was Jonesin' for this review from you Ben let me tell you and brother you did not disappoint! Radical is doing some really cool stuff and their cores intrigue me. Thank you Ben this ball looks so versatile and will be an awesome addition to my bag.
As always, appreciate the kind words my friend. Glad to see you pop up on the comments list again!

Hope you like it!
@@bowlersparadise2255 I did... It's definitely in consideration for next falls league arsenal
I’m glad to see the ball reviews have returned! Could you do a video discussing your process for how you choose to layout a ball based on the surface and numbers?
That one is in process actually! Should be up within the next few weeks!
@@bowlersparadise2255 that’s awesome to hear! I’ll be looking forward to it : )
You made the ball look great. I have one already and am trying to figure what layout to put on it. I am a speed dominant bowler and I got this ball specially the reasons you mentioned in the video. I need a piece that slowed down on fresh oil.
Its a strong piece no matter what you do, so I wouldn't be afraid to drill it strong if you're speed dominant. Don't try to make it something it isn't.
Dv8 wicked collision review ?
We’re getting there.
