Loved Zion’s message of why we collect games: to play them. Sometimes I get so caught up in what I have and don’t have that I ignore turning on consoles. Great video man!

My most precious game in my collection, is a sealed copy of Chrono Trigger for DS. I bought it several years ago when the demand for games in general were very low.

I bought Chrono Trigger for the DS used years ago. Just because I had heard so much about the game and wanted to give it a go. Found it for around $20. And now, just complete in box, it's up to $85. Smart (lucky) investment by me.

When you showed Pokemon Crystal without motherboard, I immediately thought about my Pokemon Gold cartridge. It has no label. I thought that no one would be interested in such a cartridge, but perhaps someone is looking for a board out there.
The reason why it has no label is really stupid. I bought the game (boxed) for 10 € when I was 10 (about 12 years ago). My only other GBA game had no box and no label (I don't know how or why that label was removed but I got the GBA when I was 5 so probably stupidity). So my 10-year old logic was to remove the label and throw away the box so they would be aesthetically on the same page. Worst decision in my life, even as a kid I started regretting it.

@@ians_parks i actually love the GC Chibi Robo example if ppl talk about price Increasing. I startet Sealed collecting at the end of GC times and most of the Games was very cheap to get 5-20€. So got Mario Sunsine for 14€, Fire Emblem for 15€, Paper Mario for 20€ and Chibi Robo for just 5€. Noone wanted Chibi Robo. And now? You can not even get the Disk only for 5€ anymore even if it's scratched.
Thinking back, you had an easy way to buy a stack of Sealed Chibi Robo Games and you are able to sell it today to get other Games for it. But well, as a collector, you are happy if you have the Game once. Fun fact about my collecting style: i actually paid more for the Games i played as later buying them sealed. I don't collect games, but I do collect books. When I first got into games, I spoke with someone who did have a game collection, and his stress over different box sizes, different cover art, the lack of care people take over boxes, the struggle over finding something specific, the importance of the system on the shelves...I have never connected to someone so instantly before. It felt really good. The main key, I think, is to decide how much something is worth to you personally and then never pay more than that, no matter what the going market price is: that's always been the way I've done it with books.

I group mine by gameplay-style similarity. Then I sort them in chronological order by series, and alphabetical order for others. For games that seem to be in multiple gameplay styles, I place those on the front of the collection if the games grouped in front of the group it's in is similar to it in some ways, or it goes to end of its group if the following group's genre is more similar. If both sides are equally correct, then randomly choose one side. If I can't make up my mind, choose the first choice, in this case, the beginning of the group.

I wish I'd have acquired the collectors mindset sooner. So many games that I used to have and have probably lost bits and pieces of. For example, I have the boxes for Heart Gold/Soul Silver in mint condition, but the Pokewalkers are who knows where and if I recall one of the cartridges is missing.
I don't have much retro stuff at all really, but this makes me more interested in picking some of it up. I want to find Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories for the GBA. That would be cool to own.

I made a list a few months ago, with ebay sold average price, and it has helped me not make unnecessary game pickups and focus on the ones I really want, and consolidate my collection to help purchase ones id actually play

Too bad the prices for Metroid games have gone so high up. It is my dream to collect Super Metroid in box. Guess it'll be a while...

Collecting games is one of the funniest hobbies one can get into. It's not just about how many you can get, but rather the experiences you have collecting them. Beating a game and placing it on the shelf is a sense of pride for me. All the people you meet and share experiences with. It's like we all plug these simulations in our consoles and play them, then go around friends and talk about those challenging experiences.

I used to collect a whole lot more Games for my PS2 and PS3 consoles back in my whole 2000’s adolescence to my early 20’s in the early 2010’s, as well as a lot more Handheld Games for my GBA, DS, and PSP too📚. But of course my game collecting habit started to slow down in my 8th Gen Gaming years, since I’ve collected only two to three few new games at a time since I could only play my PS4 games on my older brother’s PS4 console as long as I’m playing my PS4 games on the PS4 guest profile that my older brother made for me, and I’ve played a couple of my PS4 games on occasions on my brother’s PS4 Console only when he’s out of the house attending to his work at his workplace🏋🏻‍♂️, and I’ve collected a couple of Handheld games my 3DS and PSVITA handheld consoles from time to time on those special occasions but not as many games for my 3DS, PSVITA, or even as many PS4 games for myself to play on my older brother’s PS4 console etc since then⏰. But when my longtime kid neighbor👦🏼 and his family got me and my mom into the Nintendo Switch console and it’s motion control Wii exercise like capabilities by doing our dance exercise together on the Switch Version of a Just Dance game two years ago🕺💃, I fell in love with the idea of owning a Switch console so much, that I decided to put a Nintendo Switch Console into my Christmas list on December 2019🎄 despite the fact that only came out two years in 2017🥳 before I decided to own a Switch Console of my very own, and despite the other fact that my Switch gaming years had only just begun around the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic😷, I’ve started collecting a lot of Digital and Physical games for my Switch console a whole lot more than I ever did in a very longtime since my PS2/PS3 Collective Gaming Years in the 2000’s and early 2010’s, that I also started playing as many Classic and Nostalgic Indie games on the Switch that I realized I’ve missed out on throughout the whole 8th Video Game Generation so much since I’ve only played a small couple of Indie Games on certain gaming platforms in my possessions that I was ever able to play some of them on, like my iPhone and iPad devices, as well as some on my 3DS and PSVITA on occasions throughout the 8th Video Game Generation over the whole 2010’s, that owning a Switch Console had made me realize that I had a whole lot of indie games, remastered classics, as well as a lot of 3rd party and Nintendo Franchises to catch up with these days🤩. I’ve even collected some distinct Switch controllers of impressive design style choices such as the Jamswell streamlined designed JoyCon Set to go along with my main blue and red JoyCons, including a Ralthy Pro Controller at a good low price that works well for classic controller play styles as well, I also have a CFOWARD Pro Controller🎮 that I got a low price, but it’s also been difficult to connect that to my Switch console that I looked around the button details and realized that it seriously lacked a Sync Button, I looked at the manual, telling me that I have to connect that CFOWARD pro Controller to my Switch console by pressing and holding the home button for five seconds, and it’s sometimes worked a little for me of course, but after seeing how the Ralthy Pro Controller brand connects to the Switch better than the CFOWARD brand that I decided that I’ll give it away to one of my Cousins who happened to have become Switch Console owners like me too since I indirectly got em’ into the Switch Gaming lifestyle😎. But just to finish this lengthy comment here already due to making lengthy novelistic comments being my Longtime Eccentric force of habit for over ten years since I got into some social media platforms in the whole 2010’s back then😅: I’ve even decided to put an SNES Legacy style wireless Pro Controller into my Christmas list I started making in the Notes app on my iPhone a month ago on July, like the Christmas in July summer cultural expression😂, get it🤣? Because I already remember how my Gaming Childhood started with an SNES console that I started playing my games on for the first time at the early age of 2 years old at that time👶🏻, and it would be a wonderful nostalgic blast to play today’s games with an SNES style Game Controller again🥲. Oh and I also like using iMessage Emojis in my long lengthy comments and replies like Bookmarks🔖 just to give anyone reading this, a reading chance to skip through some long sentences just to get to any point that anyone would like to read down at anyway, if anyone using a non Apple computer or device can actually see iMessage style emojis hopefully so that is🧐.

Bro speaking facts 💯 I think game collecting is similar to the popular price increase in sport cards too. Hopefully these prices continue to rise in the future for us collectors in case we ever want to sell 🙏🤷‍♂️

As a collector myself i can tell you: if you have more then having space for: Try to priotice. No collection is "nice to look at" of the room is filled to the brim with Games.
I also buy alot of Game, but every half a year i look what i got and try to sort Games out. Games that may not "that good" as i think after playing, or selling Games that i only bought to play.
But one important note: never sell a Game that you had trouble getting. Even if it's not a rare or expensive Game. Selling it will result into "wasting time searching it again".
Your collection is well sortet and not stacked to a point you can't find anything anymore, so i think your sorting system is basic, but at the same time usefull. If i would compare the collection with maybe MetalJesusRocks then he has way more, but i never liked how his Shelfs looks, because he has trouble to give every Game a place.
And yes i also do play my Games. Not everything, because this is something you don't have time for it, but i think there was no day in my life that i stopped playing, even if it's just for 10min. (and still my backlog kills me, even if it's just physical Games xD )

I play a lot of games but I wouldn't necessarily say I collect them. However when I was younger I made the mistake of selling my old games (and getting ripped off by game stores) to pay for new games. As an adult now I regret selling a lot of those classic games especially since they are either rare or more expensive now than they were at launch. Needless to say all games I buy henceforth will never be sold because some day in the future I will look back on them and want to play again.

I remember getting Metroid Zero Mission for Christmas with the 1st GBA sp and getting stuck within the first 15-20 minutes and never playing it again lol
Seeing that manual for Zero Mission is really making me regret the last 20 years of my life in all sorts of shameful ways.
