Ben Gordon: How Did His NBA Career SUDDENLY Die?

- Опубліковано 19 вер 2024
- Today, we're going to take a look at Ben Gordon's career. He was supposed to be the Chicago Bulls' franchise player when he got drafted in 2004, but nobody really knows what happened to him after the 2009 playoffs. Unfortunately, Gordon is no longer in the NBA as of today and in this video I talk about how that happened.
I make all kinds of NBA videos which include trivia, analysis, player stories, countdowns, conspiracies, and mysteries. Make sure to leave a like and subscribe if you enjoyed this video!

I do realize that Bogans was a great defender, but that 2011 Bulls team had a great defense mainly due to a team effort. Gordon would've been way better as their starting SG, as their offense was the thing that let them down in the ECF
Anyway, next video will be a story video about a young player who's on the Bulls right now!

Andy Hoops can you do nick van exel
How did Luol Dengs Career end
Luol's old, that's how his career ended. For the most part, he was a valuable starting forward for a team who can do a little bit of everything on offense and defense, like a poor man's draymond green.
Andy Hoops I was going to say the same thing
Andy Hoops I remember him from 2k15 the he vanished
C - Ben Wallace
PF - Luol Deng
SF - Andrea Nocioni
SG - Ben Gordon
PG - Kirk Hinrich
I kinda miss them all.
Remember the baby Bulls
@@nostalgicbliss5547 Tyson Chandler and Eddy Curry (straight out of High School), Jamal Crawford, Kirk Hinrich, Khalid El-Amin, Jay Williams, Ben Gordon, and A.J Guyton.....They actually made some decent draft selections in the early 2000s, which is the post-Jordan era.
Nocioni was at a time a very underrated player. Captain Kirk was all heart. Truly a Chicagoan 💯💯💯
Bk Sam Pt my jr high days

At the same time had Gordon stayed, Rose wouldn't have had to carry that heavy load that eventually led to his ACL injury.
akeme25 Rose probably wouldn't have developed as well if Gordon was still there, but you never know.
riceinmyveins23 Yeah but Rose was already Rookie of the Year his first year with Gordon playing. I think he would have done just fine.
Blame coach Thibs
He was always going to get that eventually just due to his high style of play. Body's not suppose to be going too fast, jumping that high and absorbing all that force.
zerogeass21 incorrect. The body can handle that force just fine as long as your absorbing said force in the proper areas. Rose always landed on one foot because he had a bad habit of kicking his left foot up on layups, jump shots, dunks, etc. also he would use athleticism to get through the defender with speed and explosiveness instead of finesse. He often landed with his knee being bent and extended over his toes. Putting way more pressure on his ligaments, tendons, and joints instead of his muscles absorbing the impact.
he was a very clutch player, him and hinrich did they thang
Ben Gordon was apart those scrappy Bulls teams (2005-08) that battled the top teams and gave them a run for their money most nights. Still unbelievable that they were able to sweep Miami in '07 practically the same team the won the title the prior season. What could've been if he hadn't bounced *sigh*
ChiGuy251 The Baby Bulls!
not that hard to believe, heat team then wasnt THAT great
Yeah I know they had a lackluster season but still to be able to keep their foot on the neck of a defending championship squad showed growth from the previous year.
only playoff win of ben gordons career and for the bulls post 98 pre 2011...lols…..got beat next round @@ChiGuy251
Having Gordon may have helped D. Rose's knees as well.
You're probably right. D.Rose's knees might have not got injured if Gordon was there.
yeah. too many possibilities.
Nothing would have prevented his playing style, bad habits, and inherently brittle knees.
Man we could’ve been so good
cJinL he only got hurt cause thibs kept him in the game when it was already out of reach
Hinrich was also 🔥🔥🔥 back then
Yeah he was before he broke his wrist...then he wasn't the same..... Hinrich, Gordon, and Deng should have been all stars that 06-07 season.....I even think Andreas Nocioni could have been a possible All-star as well....that team was stacked that year... Damn Gordon you should have just stayed 😑✌️
Yeah, he was for sure. Loved watching him play too.
@@Joneth_Piptne Nocioni is the real forgotten Bull.
@@clivewarren3403 sure is I'm surprised nobody has done a video on him
I Used To F#ck Em With Them On Live 06
He was the reason the series was close. That man was MURDERING my celtics. Game 2 dude. That guy couldn’t miss. And the crazy game tying three in game 4. It’s sad to see him suddenly out of the picture
HisAirness23 it's not sad, he sucked, was under sized, didn't pass, didn't play d, rarely used his left hand, the list goes on....
The Celtics missing their best player probably had something to do with it
Bulls need him now
It was fun watching that series. Wasn't that the one where Brad Miller got his face all bloodied up?
I never thought I see the day when being 6'3 means your undersized
People talk about Boston was missing KG but nobody mentions that the Bulls were missing their best two-way player/best defender in Loul Deng.
Love these videos. Wanna throw out a suggestion for the next one. What the hell happened to Hedo Torkoglu? Besides that man keep it up. Underrated channel you got here
Gilbert Arenas?
Kenneth Donnelly he brought a gun into the locker room
Damn totally forgot about him lol
Gilbert as far as i know is still receiving money from the wizards
Rashard Lewis? To me, he is one of the most underrated players ever
In that 2009 playoff series against Boston he strained his hamstring really badly in game 3, he played on and was amazing but he wasn’t the same guy.
From what I remember the bulls lowballed him with 48.5 mill for 5 years not 58.5 and he balked at it but right before the season he wanted to sign it and the bulls pulled the offer.
That’s my boy went to Mount Vernon high school with him he was a beast in New York
Gordon stays = less pressure on Rose output and body = Rose doesn't get injured = Bulls beat Heat to advance to finals = no championships for Lebron....mind blown hahaha ;)
John Legend eh that’s a reach Lebrun wasn’t going to be denied them big facts
Bulls wasn’t beating Miami
@@jimmytobar6065 no way to guarantee anything but I believe having Ben Gordon instead of Keith Bogans in the 2011 ECF vs Miami would've made a huge difference for Chicago
Corey Rowe bulls lost 4-1 bro
@@jimmytobar6065 with a virtually useless starter at SG. Ben Gordon's ability to score and space the floor would've made a big difference imo.
Love these videos Andy. Love hearing about these forgotten players. Great job!

rip to his career
But he still has millions because he was smart with his money.
yeah true
NBA Know It All s.m.h

He was a beast at 2k13, I always gave him the ball and he would sink it everytime
He made 2 9/9 3pts game in his career, he was crazy player

King Benny Garcia really?
why is this so surprising to people
That dude is a fitness nut. I'm not surprised lol
King Benny Garcia U ALWAYS SAY THIS

This is one of the greatest series in playoff history. From any sport.
You mean Bulls vs Celtics?

I couldn't be the only one that thought Ben should of won the rookie of the year
He should've but they gave it to bumass okafor
And they both came out of UConn
Ben gordon Mt vernons finest still a Legend at the high school.
yep
What about Rodney and scooter McCray? Ben has some emotional issues that nobody knew about. I'm from White Plains, and know all about his legend. It's a shame how his career ended up.
Vincent Beville it’s sad cause he made a poor decision at the ends of his career when he still had a lot to give but his time with the bulls is something I’m sure he’s proud of and his hometown should be too. BG was nice. Had he came 10 years later he probably becomes one of the best scoring combo guards of his time.
my fave Husky
Dudes high arc'ing shot was so nice.
Thanks Andie for the throwback!! Ive been prayong for months for someone to make a video on this.. that 1st round series was insane!! Literally carried the Bulls, that was a time when they started to look really scary with the potential Rose had.
Been a BG7 fan since his UCONN days. BG7 didn't play around much with NBA politics and that's not marketable. I for one used to notice KH12 not passing him the ball on multiple wide-open possessions. They kinda held him back like they tried to do with Jimmy. Tried to make him take the backseat to Deng, who in my opinion, was not even as effective as Gordon. There was a reason they kept forcing him into the lineup. He had Ginobili's attitude when it came to sacrificing for the team, he never once complained about the 6th man role. All in all, the team was never built for BG7 in the first place and in each team he played for afterwards, he had games 9-10 three's made, only to be benched for what I believe were non-basketball reasons at every turn. I still don't see why the organization chose Deng over BG7... same way I don't see how they chose Mirotic over Butler. I guess that international market is more important than actually winning. I mean, United Center still selling out, right?
BTW, you forgot to mention that BG7 was going to accept the Bulls new offer but they pulled it off the table early. Dumars thought he was worth it but that wasn't the same battle-tested Detroit team. Plus he was finally sitting behind a legit SG in Rip Hamilton. John Kuester was the head coach... enough said.
Gary Young (made a lot of sense
You sound like a real fan. I be catching that between the line stuff with players I favor. He kind of reminds me of Rickey Davis. Talented but not respected by coaches.
@@garyyoung2919 Bobcats also screwed him on how they waived him so he couldn't sign with anyone else that season. Always wondered what it was about Gordon that miffed teams so much
PLEASE DO MICHAEL REDD!!!! NOBODY HAS DONE A VIDEO ON HIM AND ITS SAD
I agree with you on that one bro Mike Redd was well on his way to being one of the greatest 3pt shooters ever but I guess injurys slowed down so much it killed his career smh
He was amazing with the Bulls dont act like he only did it for s season. Put some respect on his name. Once he left Chicago the career died. Some people fit one city or one team great
Like Lance Stephenson in Indiana he was terrible everywhere else.
Ben Gordon was one of my favorite players during the run the Bulls had for a few years. Looking at the extension offer by the Bulls, I think it should've been more in the 5/70 mil range. Obviously Gordon felt the same as that was the reason he left. It's sad as a fan of his how his career ended up, but he'll forever be in the history books for that 9/9 3pt made game.
Here's a suggestion. What happened to emeka okafor? Dude had a dominant rookie season and then just disappeared.
He didn't have the best postup game and no reliable jumpshot either.
Yeah he had some flaws but he was pretty even with Dwight Howard in his rookie season and even won ROTY over him
SadisticSarcasm So, How did he win the ROY?
He came in as a finished product, Howard was straight out of highschool and had much more room to improve.
Wasn't he a solid double double guy but than later he got injured?
Thank you for this video, Gordon is overlooked by a lot of people
Im early, RIP Ben Gordon
Sheet if gordon was still on the bulls then maybe rose's knees would be intact
The bulls would have had one of the nicer back courts in the east of he had stayed in Chicago
BG is one of the most skilled scoring guards I have ever seen.
He has a counter-move for every defensive check. If he were 6'7 he would give Kobe a run for his money.
this is spooky cuz I was literally just thinking about him and how he disappeared just the other day
5yr $60 mill......I'm good.
And on a side note, man that's some sad background music.
Liberty lol true but it fits with the theme of his videos...tragic basketball careers endings
👍🏾
Gordon is Broke I heard... beat up a landlord of an apt bldg the other day for his security deposit money
+The Admiral For a paltry 2 or 3 thousands dollars.Gone is the time he used to count his moolah by the million. To the current pro athletes,be ware(in french:a bon entendeur demi mot suffit)
Liberty money don't buy happiness. How is this man not satisfied with 50-60 million dollars?
Gordon had to go because I live in Chicago... I used to watch games and see obvious times Gordon would avoid passing to Rose. The reason keeping him was not worth whatever chemistry issues is how inconsistent he was. He could drop 40 one night and 6 the next.
Don’t discredit Ben Gordon he’s a legend where I’m from 💯
I've been looking for this video forever! Thank you so much!
There is this one forgotten LEGEND...his name is AndyHoops...he is a great UA-camr...but he is forgotten because of people like Jimmy, mike Korzemba and others...if they wouldn't make videos he could have gotten more attention but...god isn't always nice
Ben Gordon?
Andy hoops and Mike Korzemba are in my top 5
Ben Gordon man! He used to kill my Knicks back in the mid to late 2000's. Always had respect for his game back then and especially his shot. It's unfortunate how things turned out for his career after his Bulls days. Great video.
5 years for 55-60 millions, and he came off the bench? At that time it was starter money, of you being the guy.
Jonathan Martinez I thought he said he was still going to start
They fuck that man he had a 3ball gm in a dunk era
I definitely remember how good he was back in the Chicago days. Always wondered what happened to Gordon. Now I have a better idea. Thanks.
Read his Player Tribune article; the Bulls were one of my favorite teams in the Baby Bulls era
Ben was my favorite Bull on the team during that time. That 1st round series was ridiculous.
Next to Lance Stephenson, Ben Gordon had one of the fastest drop-offs of any NBA player ever.
"0 Assists (LOL)" that killed me. 💀
Theres a possibility that if he stayed, D rose would never have been injured...butterfly effect
Dominatorz HD *effect. Also, Rose would not have developed as much if he was there. But who knows?
Was Gordon playing gonna teach D-Rose how to land or how not to have awkward body movements? Rose was destined to be injured 🤕
Nah if Tom took Rose out of that game when they were up with only like a minute left he wouldn't be injured
ADAJ3 he wouldn't been injured that day but...its kinda true, hes just too explosive to remain uninjured, like he was more explosive that westbrook, man didn't know how to control it
He was going to get hurt anyways he had poor mechanics. By any means basketball mage an awesome video on it
Bro you are hands down the best NBA channel on UA-cam. I can't stop watching them. And I pride myself on my NBA knowledge but im still always learning something new. A++++ On the channel bro
GREED IS ONE OF THE DEADLY SINS
Many people have overlooked that he was definately not 6'3. NO WAY. When you're significantly undersized and not crazily athletic, once you get past your prime, things usually go down much faster.
He should get signed by the Bulls and be a helping veteran to Zach Lavine
SedativeChicken they already got a veteran sg in Wade
Isaac Gartlan He's trying to leave...
And he'll help him what? Defending? Nah man that move would be useless
SedativeChicken What could Ben Gordon help Zach Levine with at this point? C'mon man.
haha
Man, as a British bball fan, and seeing as Gordon did eventually play for Team GB after his NBA career was done, I really wish I could have seen him play for us in his prime. It's a shame he didn't. Deng and Gordon in their primes with a still ok Pops Mensah-Bonsu would have been the best team that team GB ever had
Actually the bulls started winning after they draft Kurt Hinrich.
It's Kirk but yeah
What should be mentioned: the Bulls had a 2-15 record to start the 04-05 season, making their playoff push very impressive.
Don’t let this distract you from the fact that ray liotta quit smoking cigarettes 🚬 using Chantix
Thanks for my request ! You da best .
Mount Vernon stand up!
Great video man! As a bulls fan, slways kinda wondered what could have been with ben gordon. On your last point, i kinda think thibedeau would have hated Gordon due to lack of defense
didn't mention that he played at Eurobasket 2017 for GB
Yeah i was surprised he didn't mention that either. He didnt do too bad averaging like 10 points a game
my b
Fair enough I didn't know it was that bad
Connor Mills tbh he wasn't even trying. He didn't even turn up for a few of the games
Man I miss those times. Heinrich, Gordon, and Noah brought me back to watching Chicago again. Years after Jordan were ruff and I couldn't watch, but these guys brought me back. Now after the Butler trade I've deleted my apps and bulls schedules. I'll await the next superhero. Great vid btw!!
Who’s here after reading that amazing article?
jonathan brand I am
Another great video Andy! I'm really impressed by the way you make the person who watches your videos keep interested in your subjects. Keep doing your thing and i'm sure that one day your name will be up there along with the NBA's greatest UA-camrs.
He def made the wrong decision going to Detroit
Especially when Detroit was rebuilding and Chicago was an up and coming team to compete for a title
It's a tough one, because if he stays on Bulls, he develops, but Rose possibly doesn't, but we all know in the long run it doesn't matter because Rose goes down anyway. So yeah, in retrospect, he should've stayed on the Bulls. This could be used as a good example of what transferring potential to the bench can do to a player who believes they're better than that.
great video.. still wondering why he would leave Bulls for the exact same offer Detroit made. not smart at all
cause they didnt offer him that after the 2009 season but before it so he bet on himself and found out that was what he was worth ...the bulls didnt need him so they didnt offer him that much not expecting anyone else to and detroit like idiots did...
I always remember that series, bg n ray duel just unbelievable.
Ben Gordon should have stayed in Chicago.
Great Vid Andy!
Just because you weren't paying attention doesn't mean they fell off
HFR83 that's actually EXACTLY what it means
NovaCane No actually it doesn't, just means you were focused on something else. It's impossible for everybody to keep up with everyone and everything. Maybe your attention span is too short
HFR83 Exactly, people focus don't just revolve on one thing. Being ducked off has nothing to do with that.
Just imagine Derrick Rose, Ben Gordon, Luol Deng, Tyrus Thomas, Joakim Noah, John Salmons, Kirk Hinrich and Taj Gibson back then!
Ben Gordon went to my high school no lie

Leroy Cunningham Ima try out for jboss basketball
U should do a video on Andreas Nocioni.... He's a forgotten Bull
I want to make a different all time Bulls team on 2k

Jordan, Gordon

singingchef23 no Horace Grant?
Rahim PraiseWorthy elton brand was better and had more accolades with the bulls then grant did
Yung Savage i guess but his best years was with the Clippers & Grant had skills too but he never really showed it like his brother Harvey, cuz he played with MJ & Scott. P & Shaq & Penny, Shaq & Kobe and that's something i don't think Brand could do, it's hard for some players to put their ego in their pocket & go the role player route
singingchef23 Brian Scalabrine
Don't forget Eddy Curry lmao
Man 2000s were a weird period of volume scorers with no D and defensive juggernauts that had like 80 point games every night.
Rashad Phillips, Willie Mitchell , Maurice Taylor, Isaiah Rider, Harold Miner, Desmond Mason , Michael Redd, Tamir Goodman, Renardo Sidney , Dajuan Wagner,
Great video, thank you for reminding us about how good Gordon was!
Bogans was a LOCKDOWN defender and hit his threes. With ben gordon and rose in the backcourt the defense which was number one in the nba that year would have taken a hit
Timothée Kroband you can be number 3 or 6 and still get it done. It's clear scoring is kind of important now, you just need to get stops not grind you out defense. Look how Pop and the Spurs adapted
I will risk it
Timothée Kroband lockdown but ray Allen dropping 50 on him
Hennything is possible when hes hot hes hot man nothing you can do about it
Bogans also rarely finished the games. The 2011 Bulls had a 3-SG rotation with Bogans, Brewer, and Korver. Gordon would've provided the additional scoring that Bulls team lacked
Imagine a Bulls Roster of: D-Rose, Ben Gordon, Deng, Boozer, Noah, Chandler, kirk Hinrich, and a healthy Jayson Williams... damn they could have rocked the league for years
he legit got robbed of ROY by that bum Okafor lol
Diogo Ferreira did you know that Emeka Okafor and Jahlil Okafor are actually 3rd cousins I think
you know they were teammates at uconn right? lmao
they won the ncaa championship together along with charlie villanueva. hes no bum to gordon lol
Maxton Wait Ben Gordon told you that? Exactly
okafor deserve it
and they won back to back championships.
great vid. i often wondered what happened to his game after leaving the bulls.

They called him Air Gordon back in the day

Kobe Bryant Got tired of failing drug tests probably.
good Topic & Video man
"Lucky"
I played against benji in high school. And he was off the charts. Scored what felt like a million points
Lol "got lucky" someone doesn't know Chicago politics
Gordon was a great offensive weapon, on the other hand just like Carmelo he never developed on defense like a Curry or Rondo and didn't really pass unless he had to thus making himself one dimensional which in the NBA means in and out in a few years. There are a lot of players that were great offensively Mcgrady, Monte Ellis, Michael Redd, Gilbert Arenas, Karl Malone but never played any defense or got others on their respective teams to play ball offensively. Rose needed for Gordon to go otherwise it would have stalled his growth into the 2011 MVP.
