Don't see how people say he ruined his legacy when he came back when his legacy was already cemented. To me it jus showed not even mike could beat father time
Son Brohan He ruined his legacy by taking part in the 3 point contest. Scored 5 points out of a possible 30 points, lowest total of all time. Even Kevin Hart DOUBLED that.
People forget but during the first half of the first season with the Wizards he was a legit mvp candidate. But his body broke down finally and his knees pretty much gave up on him and Jordan was pretty much playing hobbled the rest of the time but still managed to drop a couple of 40pts games and a 50+ game. And don't forget that chase down block on Ron Mercer. Yah, it was tough to see MJ almost seem mortal but he did show us how much of a freak he was with the stuff he was able to do at his age.
286mic FACTS, IDK why people forgot how much of an impact he had when he returned the last time. This version of Mike is what Kobe modeled his game after when he got older (footwork & jumpers). An if you remember Kobe was still effective, it was injuries that stopped Kobe and a bad team. Exactly what stopped M.J., he was really close to getting them into the playoffs his final year there, he said allot of players didn't have the drive, or motivation, which stopped them from winning. To many young, and ridiculously rich players, with a feeling that they were too good to really play scrappy and compete.
only because his legacy took a hit because of it . i remember those wizards years and it was literally the last memory of jordan. jordan fans hate that it gets mentioned but it counts against his legacy . that team didnt even make the playoffs in the eastern conference. lol thats pathetic
The Wizard stint only proved to me how great he was. At 40 he was going head to head with the games best players and wasn't really inferior. Sometimes they got the better of him (Kobe and Mcgrady both had 40 or 50 point games on him) but sometimes he got the best of others (I remember him outplaying Paul Pierce and Vince Carter a few times). Least I forget the All star game where he came up clutch and hit the fadeaway of a top 3 wing defender in the game, Shawn Marion. 40 year old MJ did alot better than 38 year old Shaq, 39 year old Duncan, 40 year old Malone, 40 year old Kareem, 36 year old Magic, 40 year old Jason Kidd and even 37 year old Kobe Bryant. The list goes on, you won't name a player aged 38 or over who played better. Even today, he was light years better than Dirk, Vince Carter, Manu Ginobli are now. No embrassment at all.
danielgalea that just isn’t true unless you just measure players by their ppg. Players like tim Duncan, Karl Malone and Kareem were far more useful in their later years than Jordan. lol that's a first. MJ couldn't play defense with the Wizards? He was still excellent. He defended SF's. He had a 3.4 DWS at 40 and the Wizards were bottom defense without him and a top defense with him. At 38/39 his passing/ AST % was the 2nd highest of his career.

His numbers would only be called "unspectacular" if you are comparing him to his former self. Compare Jordan's numbers with other all star/hall of famers his age and you begin to realize that what he did with the wizards was definitely remarkable. I'm glad he came back to the wizards I was 9 years old when he retired from the bulls and remember very little I was 12 and 13 when he was a wizard and remember alot more... Thanks Mj
I heard the reason he came back to play was because the Wizards promised to let him get partial ownership of the team, if he played for them for a few years, then they reneged on the agreement afterward.
Jordan’s time with the Wizards was definitely impressive considering his age. And before he went down with that injury he was carrying the wizards into playoff contention. I believe before the injury, he wizards had become a top 5 team defensively and offensively. Once he got injured the team crumbled. The next year was not a great, but Jordan’s numbers were still comparable to a lot of young players who would go on to become all stars and all nba level players. His time with the wizards was definitely impressive, and is incredibly underrated. If you really look into Jordan’s time as a player there, and his influence, he never stopped being a baller.
it WAS the game winner...look the all star game again...they had problems with the clock, it just stopped during the game for a few seconds...and then...how much of an asshole must kobe be, to not give MJ that respect to earn the last winning shot like they did when Magic played his last All Star Game
MJ made players of a certain mentality better, though mostly it was out of fear lol It reminds me of current day Jimmy Butler. On the right team players respond to his demands that they try to match his level of intensity and work ethic, but many players (such as KAT and Wiggins) respond very poorly to that kind of pressure.
@@ValensBellator He made his teammates worst specially during his first years in the league, were he was averaging incredible numbers but winning nothing. It took him to get paired with already mature players like Grant, Pippen, and later Rodman and Harper to win all that he did.
Jordan should've never traded Rip for Stackhouse. He thought Stack was a go to #1 option. He wasn't. Rip was a more efficient scorer who didn't need to dominate the ball
His time with the Wizards is extremely underrated and overlooked, even by the man himself. For being 38-40 years old, he was giving the business to 20-somethings
Many people would definitely forget about MJ's time with the Wizards but he did have some memorable moments like when he scored 51 points at 39 years old, scored 40 points after turning 40 years old and so many others.
20+ points with a 40+ fgp and managing to play all 82 games as a 40 year old is pretty goddamn impressive. Kinda disrespectful to say that he was “underwhelming”
As a lifelong Bullets/Wizards fan. One of the most exciting times during my fandom, was when we first hired MJ as President of Basketball Operations.. and then I became Uber excited, when he announced he was coming outta retirement, to play with them. I admit, his last comeback wasn't as great as the rest of his career.. but the brotha still was a very effective player. And still a top 10 player at his position. Which is great, relative to his age, and time off he took off from the sport. And that's all folks..
MJ last 2 seasons in the Wizards, is still the best upto this day in respect to the last two season before retirement, and a great numbers in todays nba.
I grew up In the DC area and remember seeing Mike play for the wizards. Being a young Kid from DC seeing your favorite player the Goat MJ play on your favorite team. The feeling was crazy. And he still dropped 20 a game and made an all star team crazy! Will always remember those times. Gotta get a MJ wizards jersey. and from that time we got the 16s 17s and 18s some of the greatest jordans of all time especially in the wizards color way
I honestly didn't think it was a mistake for him to come back, if anything it shows how much he loves the game. It also gave us some fantastic moments. I remember I was watching a game with my mom and they got some miracle last moment winning shot (I think it was Ric, but I don't quite remember who was) and she was all happy because she was still watching the hero of her youth playing some high level basketball. Sure his come back wasn't anything special in the big scheme of things but it was really nice to see Michael Jordan play for a couple of years more.
The Wizards roster in 2001 without MJ may have been the worst roster I've ever seen. Hamilton was the only other good player, but he wasn't nearly the guy he would end up becoming later in his career. I'm also glad you mentioned his minimum salary and the fact he donated it all, that story disappeared for a long time and it's as though people completely forgot about it. MJ didn't want people thinking he came back because he needed the money. I don't think anyone would have actually thought that, but MJ is notorious for guarding his reputation and being very careful with how the public perceives him. And about Kwame, this was during a sudden trend where high schoolers started being taken high in the draft. Not many of them worked out very well, but that's what was going on at the time. I don't think the guy ever would have become a great player. Teams were reaching on high schoolers A LOT during this period.
IDK why anyone would talk shit on Jordan's Wizard years. He was still better than most 2 guards when he was 39 years old. I enjoyed watching him change his game to make up for losing some athleticism.
Antonio Wilson I think he should have stayed another season or two. He clearly had a couple seasons left in him. Most athletes don't retire at peak performance. This wasn't the case with Jordan. The problem was that he got bored. I would have loved to witness a Spurs and Bulls 1999 finals.
As constituted in 98', but a year older, that would've been a 6-7 game Finals series for sure. The Knicks had no chance. I feel that the Bulls could contain Duncan w/ Rodman some. Pippen would be a slight advantage over Sean Elliott at small forward cause of his defense. An only slight past prime David Robinson would be a nightmare match-up for Luc Longley at center, but the Spurs would still have to account for Jordan. Mario Elie's a tough defender, but it's clearly clearly Jordan in that match-up. Both teams have descent benches, so I'll give the Bulls a slight edge w/ Steve Kerr staying on, instead of going to the Spurs.
Indiana was the 8th seed in 2002 with 42-40 record and the team on the outside was Milwaukee at 41-41. In 2003 Orlando was the 8th seed with a 41-41 record.
I always thought that MJ's last game was game 6 of the 98 finals where he shot the game winner, and I honestly think that it would have been better if Jordan completely retired after the 98 finals and never comeback.
What he failed to say was that the Wizards was a playoff team halfway through the 2001-2002 season and Jordan was putting up numbers like he was in his prime. Then thanks to Jared Jeffries, MJ injured his knee and that totally derailed his season and time with the Wizards. Oh and don't forget he still averaged over 20 a game and had two more all star appearances. So it wasn't a total waste of time.
It'a amazing how far culture has come in 20 short years. No one would be allowed to bully people verbally like MJ, KG, and Shaq did. As much as I hate social media, I think it's created more accountability among celebrities. Those guys got out just before the firestorm
21 ppg is amazing for a 40 year old. Many other greats were either a shell of themselves at 40 Jabbar averaged 10 ppg at 40, Robert Parish was riding the bench, Malone was injury prone, Ewing was scoring in the single digits. I mean in his last year with the Bulls at age 35, he averaged 28.7 ppg, so the decline was inevitable
RIP became a Jordan brand athlete, so I don’t think he was too upset in the end. Also Jordan was promised ownership stake in the Wizards upon his retirement when he went back to play for them. When he retired the Wizards ownership denied him an ownership stake and betrayed him. So he went on to buy the Bobcats (now Hornets)
as a huge Jordan fan..I really appreciated this as I never watched a game while he was a Wizard.......I felt as though it was just "something" to do at the time....I watched all of his career nightly ; but never a single game as a Wizard!!!!
really MJ ruined his legacy when he came out of retirement but he had some huge games when he played for Washington, he even had like i think 2,3 games with 40 or more
The publisher can't simply pretend that Michael's comeback with the Wizards did not happen. MJ still averaging approximately 20 ppg is still pretty damn good for someone who was 39-40 years old in the NBA. Many rookies and players would enjoy those numbers.
I am 37 yo and I live in Chicago my entire life and watched Jordan's career. I tell people about how bad things were for Jordan from 99-2003 and they can't believe me, so thank you for this video. I always had a huge problem with Jordan's Attitude, Selfishness and always blaming shit on other every single time their Team Lose. Now and days you cannot Act or Say half the shit that Jordan used to say or he would get Traded. Lebron James, on the other hand, is such a Great Leader, Inspirational Player and he is the complete OPPOSITE of Michael Jordan as a Person. Lebron would never Diss or call his Teammates Names. Jordan DESTROYED that Poor young dudes Career, just cuz he was Mad HE MADE A BAD DRAFT PICK?? Fuck your GOAT! He sure ain't my GOAT sorry...
MJ come back was marketing stunt to get interest in a franchise he just invested a ton of cash into.. although can't deny MJ still had impressive stats for his age
worst place you can be in the NBA is that middle of the road team. 37-45 is definitely in that category. I would think his play actually hindered any chance the team had of getting better.
Not your best video Andy. I don't know know how intensive the research part for this video was but you missed a lot. MJ overall averages were bad but a lot of this was due to his knee getting injured and he was actually getting better as time went on. 38 year old Michael Jordan pre-injury (46 games) in the 2001/02 season (points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks) 25.1 - 6.2 - 5.3 - 1.5 - 0.5 on 42% 30 year old LeBron James in the 2014/15 season (points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks) 25.3 - 6.0 - 7.4 - 1.6 - 0.7 on 49% Jordan's numbers were also improving as the season went on. In his last 20 games up to the injury he averaged 27.5 - 6.4 - 5.2 - 1.3 - 0.5 on 44% In his last 10 games up to the injury he averaged 29.7 - 6.6 - 6.1 - 1.2 - 0.3 on 47% It's also worth nothing that 17 of Jordan's 46 games (37% of them) came against top 10 defenses in points allowed. Despite a large proportion of those 46 games coming against top 10 defenses, he still put up those big numbers while not being healthy in the first place. You can read more about it on this blog: nobodytouchesjordan.blogspot.ca/ Also in terms of Kwame Brown a lot of the reason as to why he turned out the way he did is because they played him at the wrong position. They pushed him into playing as a C deep into the post when his game was more of a pure PF or SF. He had good lateral movement and a jump shot from the mid-range. They threw him into the most physically taxing position while he was still a teenager without any time for his body to adapt while also limiting his minutes and touches due to Jordan and Rip being the focus of the offense. This is a video showcasing some Kwame Brown's skills: ua-cam.com/users/hitbbbayvideos?sort=dd&view=0&shelf_id=0
It goes to show how enormous of a mountain Jordan had to fall from compared to the field, but it wasn't his greatest accomplishment. Going 6 for 6 in the Finals is awfully tough to beat. We've seen legends that hung around so long, turn in reasonably great seasons in their late 30s to early 40s. Kareem did it. Tim Duncan. Karl Malone. John Stockton. Steve Nash. I'm likely missing a few, it's a very select list that Jordan's on, for a lot more turn into Patrick Ewing when they get to that age, but it's not altogether uncommon compared to some of the stuff Jordan did when he was wearing red.
I remember when it was announced that he was making a 2nd come back. First it was a rumor until It was officially reported at 10 PM on the ESPN News Network in 2001. I shouted in exuberance and woke up my mom. Lol

Andy Hoops wait he played for the wizards?
I'm glad he came back to the wizards I was 9 years old when he retired from the bulls and remember very little I was 12 and 13 when he was a wizard and remember alot more... Thanks Mj
I heard the reason he came back to play was because the Wizards promised to let him get partial ownership of the team, if he played for them for a few years, then they reneged on the agreement afterward.
Stop saying Brown is worst 1st draft pick ever.
He on lower end.
There are guys who played one game.
Just google it.
Marc Sarfati he's not the worst draft pick ever. He's the worst draft pick that went first overall that's the whole point.
not even close. he at least became a decent bench player later on, which is more than scrubs like anthony bennett or michael olowakandi did
Marc Sarfati
He said one of the worst... Did we hear the same thing or nah
Markelle Fultz next.
Greg Oden was way worse than Kwame Brown
Jordan’s time with the Wizards was definitely impressive considering his age. And before he went down with that injury he was carrying the wizards into playoff contention. I believe before the injury, he wizards had become a top 5 team defensively and offensively. Once he got injured the team crumbled. The next year was not a great, but Jordan’s numbers were still comparable to a lot of young players who would go on to become all stars and all nba level players. His time with the wizards was definitely impressive, and is incredibly underrated. If you really look into Jordan’s time as a player there, and his influence, he never stopped being a baller.
9:54 yeah Jermaine O'Neal did fuck up big time!
His dumbass
it WAS the game winner...look the all star game again...they had problems with the clock, it just stopped during the game for a few seconds...and then...how much of an asshole must kobe be, to not give MJ that respect to earn the last winning shot like they did when Magic played his last All Star Game
dawox23 you salty lmao the game went to double overtime west won 155-145 east
dawox23 Hitting this game winning shot means shit to MJ’s career
"MJ made his teammates better"
Rip Hamilton and Kwame Brown roll their eyes
Jordan Jenkins obviously during his Bulls era
Rip was definitely better in Detroit at least lol
MJ made players of a certain mentality better, though mostly it was out of fear lol
It reminds me of current day Jimmy Butler.
"Your game is not to the liking of my sneaker" 💀
MJ the Goat for that alone
but RIP was an allstar tho
@@BB0ysGames Not at the time. That happened later.
Who wants to forget this? It was awesome to see him again.
Imagine Tyson Chandler, Gilbert Arenas, Antwan Jamison, and Caron Butler!
Tyson Chandler was the big man they needed.
Thanks for the summary of his time with the Wizards. This is exactly what I needed after watching “The Last Chance”
Worst owner in league history😡!!.. Turned my Hornets into the Cleveland Browns of the NBA😭😭
Kel NC lmao they suck
Jerome Graves mainly because of him
Hornets are decent wouldnt say they are the worst
Agreed..Abe Pollin invented losing on purpose
It's the Knicks now, oh thanks for Kemba 🖕
Andy, another great video, keep it up
Na
"He was not doing well."
*Video showing multiple fade aways and assists*
birb C’mon and slam,
And welcome to the jam!!!
20+ points with a 40+ fgp and managing to play all 82 games as a 40 year old is pretty goddamn impressive. Kinda disrespectful to say that he was “underwhelming”
Watching this cause it wasn't in the Last Dance lol
I've been watching mj wizards highlights lately. The dude went off at times
I think he looks so frikin good in that jersey too oh my
For the Greats: you either die young as a Hero or grow old to become the Villian (Kobe vs Jordan)
Jordan was incredible on the court. But he was guilty of being a asshole his entire career. I love his game, but the person not so much.
Chill Out when
MJ: Hey rip, my sneakers are for all stars
Great player, bad teammate
Bad person as well
SamTheKid i agree
#Dubnation i agree.
Iverson is better. And Brynt.
Drason Vender that’s basically the same thing.
MJ last 2 seasons in the Wizards, is still the best upto this day in respect to the last two season before retirement, and a great numbers in todays nba.
He retired because he was about to be banned for sports gambling
I grew up In the DC area and remember seeing Mike play for the wizards. Being a young Kid from DC seeing your favorite player the Goat MJ play on your favorite team. The feeling was crazy. And he still dropped 20 a game and made an all star team crazy! Will always remember those times. Gotta get a MJ wizards jersey. and from that time we got the 16s 17s and 18s some of the greatest jordans of all time especially in the wizards color way
Poor Kwame. First MJ, then Kobe grilling him.
"Jermaine O'Neal's dumb ass" 😂😂
Andy you’ve been on a roll lately mad respect!
still damn good. The problem is taking breaks. You cant get in that shaps again.
Isn’t it funny how Wizards Jordan is basically Kobe Bryant
Tropikkkana hahaha so true
Truth
old kobe with the moves kobe period with the ego and passing
na, jordan didn't demand high salary.
An old Kobe yes....u must be 10?
"...but then Jermaine O'Neal's dumbass" That line delivery had me cracking up.
Then the Lakers got Kwane 💀💀💀
His Footwork and finishing moves were amazing
9:53 look at how he looks at Isaiah Thomas 😂
I was looking for this comment 😂😂😂😂
IDK why anyone would talk shit on Jordan's Wizard years. He was still better than most 2 guards when he was 39 years old. I enjoyed watching him change his game to make up for losing some athleticism.
MJ should‘ve stayed retired after the 98 finals, in my opinion.
Shawn Kemp oh
Antonio Wilson I think he should have stayed another season or two. He clearly had a couple seasons left in him. Most athletes don't retire at peak performance. This wasn't the case with Jordan. The problem was that he got bored. I would have loved to witness a Spurs and Bulls 1999 finals.
inquisitive871 yeah, thats true.
He should have never retired in the 90s.
He was fuckin killin it even at that age!! Schoolin everyone, underrated seasons for sure !
35-47 wasn't good enough for the eastern playoffs? Weird.
Funny lol, that's like 3rd seed now 😂
@@ernestnazarian9833 it was good enough in his first 3 seasons.
My dude even if Jordan did have something to do with the rip Hamilton trade he signed the man to the Jordan brand..
Aaron Garnett
He traded Rip to help him, ultimately.
This video connected alot of dots for me when it comes to Jordan and that era
What he failed to say was that the Wizards was a playoff team halfway through the 2001-2002 season and Jordan was putting up numbers like he was in his prime. Then thanks to Jared Jeffries, MJ injured his knee and that totally derailed his season and time with the Wizards. Oh and don't forget he still averaged over 20 a game and had two more all star appearances. So it wasn't a total waste of time.
To say nobody cared when he came back is your opinion... That's a understatement young man!!
Wtf, how is drafting eddie griffin or eddy curry better than kwame brown?! Smh
It'a amazing how far culture has come in 20 short years. No one would be allowed to bully people verbally like MJ, KG, and Shaq did.
As much as I hate social media, I think it's created more accountability among celebrities. Those guys got out just before the firestorm
Was an ad in the middle of an 11 minute video really necessary?
Sean D
Gotta get his coins lol
So he went on to buy the Bobcats (now Hornets)
as a huge Jordan fan..I really appreciated this as I never watched a game while he was a Wizard.......I felt as though it was just "something" to do at the time....I watched all of his career nightly ; but never a single game as a Wizard!!!!
really MJ ruined his legacy when he came out of retirement but he had some huge games when he played for Washington, he even had like i think 2,3 games with 40 or more
bruce lau In his Washington run, I think he even drop 50 wich make him the oldest player in NBA history to do that
I don't see how be ruined his legacy, he was 38 years old. What yall expected him to lead the Wizards to the finals?
Actually Jordan had like 5 games of 40+ points before the All-Star break in 2001-2002.
Legato this might be off topic but yall dont give lebron a pass for missing the playoffs in his first two years in the league on shit cavs teams
Jordan averaged 20 points per game in his final year
Imagine if he had have joined a team that could have been a contender with him. That would have been wild.
Long live kwame brown
He sure ain't my GOAT sorry...
just discovered your page and subscribed. Great content! I have some catching up to do on your older videos.

Baseball MJ > Wizards MJ > Bulls MJ
When u put a sponsorship in the vid it makes me fast forward every time.
Always speaking faxx
Lol this video is a gem man. Very funny
MJ come back was marketing stunt to get interest in a franchise he just invested a ton of cash into.. although can't deny MJ still had impressive stats for his age
Great as always!
Kwame Brown is a bonafide scrub! - SAS
Jordan’s final game in MSG was legendary
I'm back tonight
You called my boy JJ Barea a "midget".
worst place you can be in the NBA is that middle of the road team.
38 year old Michael Jordan pre-injury (46 games) in the 2001/02 season (points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks) 25.1 - 6.2 - 5.3 - 1.5 - 0.5 on 42%
30 year old LeBron James in the 2014/15 season (points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks) 25.3 - 6.0 - 7.4 - 1.6 - 0.7 on 49%
Jordan's numbers were also improving as the season went on.
In his last 20 games up to the injury he averaged 27.5 - 6.4 - 5.2 - 1.3 - 0.5 on 44%
In his last 10 games up to the injury he averaged 29.7 - 6.6 - 6.1 - 1.2 - 0.3 on 47%
It's also worth nothing that 17 of Jordan's 46 games (37% of them) came against top 10 defenses in points allowed. Despite a large proportion of those 46 games coming against top 10 defenses, he still put up those big numbers while not being healthy in the first place.
You can read more about it on this blog: nobodytouchesjordan.blogspot.ca/
Also in terms of Kwame Brown a lot of the reason as to why he turned out the way he did is because they played him at the wrong position.
This is a video showcasing some Kwame Brown's skills: ua-cam.com/users/hitbbbayvideos?sort=dd&view=0&shelf_id=0
that takes a bit more effort than a simple wikipedia search so most youtubers arent going to do that
It goes to show how enormous of a mountain Jordan had to fall from compared to the field, but it wasn't his greatest accomplishment.
SportingMinds yeah bro.. Its almost sound like he doesn't really like Jordan. He's probably a hater or a Lebronsexual fan
That’s why mj is the best ,he has the heart of a champion
The Most Selfish Player in the History of the NBA and people have no clue cuz there was NO Social Media then... #Facts
I remember when it was announced that he was making a 2nd come back. First it was a rumor until It was officially reported at 10 PM on the ESPN News Network in 2001. I shouted in exuberance and woke up my mom. Lol
nah,, the GOAT was still impressive with the wizards.
much like Hakeem with the Raptors and Ewing with the magic I absolutely positively refuse to acknowledge that this happened..... great video though
