I loved Philly cheesesteaks and southern BBQ, but I moved back to Buffalo partially because the food is so damn good. Nat Geo ranked Buffalo #7 on it’s Top 10 Best International Food Cities list. I’d say that’s crazy if I didn’t know it was true. Polish and Italian are considered top tier comfort food, so having your city’s history be largely made up of those backgrounds explains why the food is so good. Further proof is in the fact that you touched on a couple of the best places to eat and the kind of food they specialize in… but there’s literally 2-3 other places that also specialize in those items and offer variations. Ted’s hot dogs have places like Louie’s or Seneca Texas Hots as hot dog places with variations. You go into Ted and get a chili dog, it’s completely different than the gravy dogs you get at Seneca. Schwables has slightly different beef on weck. Everyone has different wings. Everyone has different pizza. Speaking of pizza, One Bite Pizza absolutely LOVE Buffalo when they come to town, despite the fact they prefer NY style. Personally, I like the saltier sauces of a few places around here, unlike the sweet ones like Imperial. Sweet is just gross to me lol. And as far as what Buffalo pizza is, I’d consider it halfway between Chicago deep and NY flat, just like how Buffalo is halfway between Chicago and NYC on the map lol. If you ever come back, go to a little place 40 mins south of the city in a town called Holland… the place is called Giuseppe’s. Unreal Italian comfort food made by a little old lady and the pizza is Top-3 in all of WNY. Not even kidding.

The Anchor Bar photo of the overflowing platter looks like it has more legs than wings. The truth about Buffalo wings that no one will admit is that there isn't much meat on a wing and they have to throw in a few legs so it's more than just skin and bones. My aunt Eleanor lived at 1106 Main Street directly across from the Anchor. For her, this bar wasn't a world-famous tourist trap, it was her local gin mill. Every self-respecting Buffalo gin mill had to have a dining room in the back, if for no other reason than to serve the Friday fish fry. The Anchor did better than that. The beef on weck section makes no mention of the kümmel which is German for caraway seed. Look closely and you'll see that the roll is sprinkled with not just pretzel salt, but caraway seeds too. When we went to Bailo's, my grandmother would order something else because she didn't like the kümmelweck. To her, like Aunt Ella, Bailo's was just another Buffalo gin mill. BTW: I was born in Millard Fillmore Hospital and grew up in Black Rock before we moved to Kaisertown. I went to Bishop Timon HS on McKinley Parkway. You missed one of the best restaurants in the whole country let alone Buffalo and that's the Niagara Cafe. The place is virtually packed every day with people from all over Buffalo. Top notch Puerto Rican food.
@@michaelrhodes6730 they're out of their mind. One thing I noticed growing up around Puerto Ricans is many of them have egos and swear their food is better. Try the Cafe then get back to me. One thing I will say, is there have been times when the pernil was off and it's happened a few times but when it's on, with the rice, there's nothing even close.
Anchor Bar wings are over-hyped. They really aren't any better than wings you can get at every other place that serves them. Good but not fantastic. Paula's Donuts rocks!! I only wish they delivered, but maaaybe that's a bad idea for me! As for pepperoni, I hate the charred bits! Pepperoni should not be burned! And Chef's spaghetti parm is delicious, yes.
I agree on Anchor! We only went there because we were doing Buffalo icons. And thought we should go to where they were invented. Only now to hear conflicting stories about the true origin!🤨. Thanks for stopping by friend!😊
Teds: Dogs with the works Beef on Weck ---- Yep Candy --- sorry no clue, not my thing Spaghetti parm -- no clue Honorable: pizza, donuts are donuts, Wings: Screw Anchor bar -- much better elsewhere, start at Bar Bill. Fish Fry --- Fish Fry ---- Fish Fry, fish, fries, cole slaw and tarter. Roll n such ngoes nice. Loganberry rocks! But in Buffalo we get Canadian Beer too! Well some Brador :(
I love Frank's! Sadly they have been closed for dine-in since the pandemic began. If you want a huge serving that'll make 2 or 3 meals, get your food from Frank's. I guarantee enough leftovers for lunch and possibly dinner the next day!
I don't know about the pizza there. Most are uncooked tomato paste for sauce. most wings are large & slimy. dumped in a mixing bowl & mixed with the grease residue with hot sauce added.
Most people who live outside of Buffalo consider Buffalo as bigger than the city itself. So on that notion, Rock Burger, a stuffed Burger local chain is another great place to eat something unique around here
Bug mistake out of Towner's to do is go to places like the anchor bar, their the places the give the wing a bad name, go to the local neighborhood small pizzarias for the best wings ever.
WHAT !! NO PIZZA !! ....... We have the best on the planet ! Our food ...oh man.. Beef, @ Kelly's Korner old school bar food.. Pizza, @ Bocce's, drop the mike... Burgers, .@.Grovers,... back off. Fish Fry ..Athena's .. also the best fries just in case you didn't know. Sooooo many more places ....
Anchor Bar invented them, but they are not even close to the best in the area. Duffs is great if you like a super saucy wing, Bar Bill is best for flavor and crisp. Buffalo native and I eat wings probably twice a year. Fingers are better - vehicle for sauce and bleu cheese.
Not true with the Anchor Bar. They stole JOHN YOUNGS wings and things recipe and idea. He served the wings whole. His Sauce was called Mambo Sauce. He was selling these wings in the 50’s
The anchor bar story is fake. They stole the recipe from John Young who is my friends uncle. The original wing sauce was called Mambo sauce. Currently Detroit and Baltimore have a variation of mambo sauce. But yes. The story is fake.
When I grew up there we all celebrated the changing seasons; June, July, August and Winter.

Just got back from Texas, we are laying low for a bit. We have a couple of weekend camping trips coming up in PA
@@DoodletheTravelBug Cool :) I bet it was nice and warm there!
I love chefs I live in Buffalo
Better places for wings than anchor. Try Elmo's in Amherst.
You missed one of the best restaurants in the whole country let alone Buffalo and that's the Niagara Cafe. The place is virtually packed every day with people from all over Buffalo. Top notch Puerto Rican food.
Thanks friend! We’ll have to go!
We go to Montys for Puerto Rican food. Ppl all say it's a bit better but I haven't had Niagara Cafe.
Thanks for stopping by friend!😊
gooood video superb stay connected new here
Teds: Dogs with the works
Beef on Weck ---- Yep
Candy --- sorry no clue, not my thing
Spaghetti parm -- no clue
Honorable: pizza, donuts are donuts,
Wings: Screw Anchor bar -- much better elsewhere, start at Bar Bill.
Fish Fry --- Fish Fry ---- Fish Fry, fish, fries, cole slaw and tarter. Roll n such ngoes nice.
Loganberry rocks!
But in Buffalo we get Canadian Beer too! Well some Brador :(
Duffs is waaaaaaay better, franks sunny italy is also waaaaaay better
I love Frank's! Sadly they have been closed for dine-in since the pandemic began. If you want a huge serving that'll make 2 or 3 meals, get your food from Frank's. I guarantee enough leftovers for lunch and possibly dinner the next day!
Next time you go to Buffalo go to mr.subs it’s a smaller Business but the wings subs steak hogees and pizza are really good
Thanks friend! Happy New Year!
@@DoodletheTravelBug you to
Watch the way you speak on Loganberry.
Ha ha! Got it. My apologies. My kids thought it was the best!!!!!
all good except the sponge candy, insulation covered in chocolate is just that?
I don't know about the pizza there. Most are uncooked tomato paste for sauce. most wings are large & slimy. dumped in a mixing bowl & mixed with the grease residue with hot sauce added.
Anchor Bar is for tourists
As a dolphin fan the only good thing in Rich stadium is grilled balouny sandwich
Wings from Buffalo, reasonable, hence, Buffalo Wings. I hope they get royalties.
NO! They are simply WINGS in Buffalo! NEVER “Buffalo wings”!
Like the other comment says, in Buffalo we call them “chicken wings” or just simply “wings.” Never call them Buffalo wings
The best pizza I’ve ever had is Carbone’s
Ugh! You missed out. The best italian food you'll ever have is at Fortunas in Niagara Falls
Thanks for the food tip!❤️
Need some horseradish on the Beef on Week
Try...
Tony's Texas Hots
Kostas Greek
Famous Doughnuts
Jim's Steakout
Bocce Pizza (Bailey Ave)
Weck
@@tauronlawrence1650 I'll give you credit in the Part 2 episode!!! Thanks friend.
Before you guys say the anchor bar wings are the best TRY THE SWANNIE HOUSE WINGS 🎉
Hi im in Buffalo Duffs is better than anchor bar they have really good wings go there
Thanks friend!
Most people who live outside of Buffalo consider Buffalo as bigger than the city itself. So on that notion, Rock Burger, a stuffed Burger local chain is another great place to eat something unique around here
Thanks friend! We’ll check it out!
@@DoodletheTravelBug Especially try the one in Cheektowaga. My cousin owns it
Go to Duffs Wing in buffalo they r better than anchor bars
Sadly, the VERY BEST Beef on Weck in Buffalo was Bailo's on Bailey & Lovejoy. Mysteriously burned down ...
We went to Bailo's all the time. We lived off South Ogden and Dingens and it was a short ride to Bailey and Lovejoy.
Bug mistake out of Towner's to do is go to places like the anchor bar, their the places the give the wing a bad name, go to the local neighborhood small pizzarias for the best wings ever.
Thanks Bud! I totally agree! I just felt being a list of iconic. The story of a anchor Bar was the best! Thanks for the comment!🤗
WHAT !! NO PIZZA !!
YES! Bocce's 🥰😋
Ugg Anchor Bar
Where’s the stinger tacos???
I don't get the whole wing thing. I went to The Anchor Bar, and had a cheeseburger.
Bless your money when you grow up kids ...amen...
Born & Raised in Buffalo U forgot Mr Pizza they cut in squares so u can feed the kids and whole family
A comfort foodie could eat themselves into a coma there!
YOu got that right!
Not true with the Anchor Bar. They stole JOHN YOUNGS wings and things recipe and idea. He served the wings whole. His Sauce was called Mambo Sauce. He was selling these wings in the 50’s
Ted's hotdogs is mid, the best hotdogs you should've tried were Seneca's Texas Reds, down Seneca ST. south.
go to Bar Bill instead of Anchor !-4
The anchor bar story is fake. They stole the recipe from John Young who is my friends uncle. The original wing sauce was called Mambo sauce. Currently Detroit and Baltimore have a variation of mambo sauce. But yes. The story is fake.
OMG!!! That is horrible for your friends uncle!!! I hate hearing things like this.
@@DoodletheTravelBug NY Times did a story on John Youngs wings
Bumping this up. This is a true story more people need to be aware of.
