    I really liked how you demonstrated the power band by pulling the throttle in different gears at different speeds. Something that many other reviews miss entirely. Well done.

    I've owned one of these now coming up to three years. Best bike I've ever owned, yes it's a bit of a hooligan machine but I tour Europe on it, such a great if a little thirsty machine. Also 14,000 miles it's been perfectly reliable.

      @@MT10dan88 I bought an MT10 just after this video was posted. I ride mostly with my wife as passenger, we have the comfort seat and I made foot peg extensions for the rear. This is an absolutely awesome bike, I couldn't be more pleased. I would only sell it if Yamaha upgraded the MT10.

    Bought a 2017 MT-10 yesterday, took it out through some twisties today. Thoughts:
    Throttle Mode 1 (previously called B) is absurd for traffic and perhaps even a bit aggressive for tight (25-35kph) twisties. Mode 2 (previously "A") is excellent in the twisties and can handle moderate traffic, mode 3 (previously "std") is strictly for traffic and does a good job. Low speed control (as in, very low speed, like those times when you could put your foot down but just don't want to) is super easy in mode 3.
    Didn't play with the TCS much, left it in 2 for most of the day, 1 for a little while. Didn't notice a huge difference. I wasn't going to power up any wheelies on a brand new bike (run in your new bikes please!) so I didn't test the supposed "wheelie control" of TCS3 mode.
    Cornering is precise. I'm coming off a 2004 R1 which was absolutely on rails through corners. I've only ridden an upright bike for a couple of weeks prior to this, so the body position feels odd and did not inspire confidence, but the bike certainly does. About 30 minutes into the tight corners the hesitation apprehension was forgotten. In fact I found that while the R1 held a completely steady line at all times, the MT-10 is actually easier to adjust into a tighter line when needed (like when there's oncoming wide traffic etc).

    Hey Mark, Rode this years bike this morning after trying the initial first effort two years ago, and the fuelling is better now than it was then. So much more so I've sold my 2016 GS and just about to sign the dotted line for a new touring edition in Ice Flou colour. Massively impressed with the flexibility of the engine with its ability to commute to work at 25mph and then hit the twisties on the way home........bloody awesome!

    Actually the best review so far and I have seen them all. I would want one for some semi touring around the country but also twisty rides and even a track day a year...so it seems bang on for the price...I saw a review where the guy changed the front brake pads to Brembo track and street pads and he says the braking got even better and as far as I have heard it was the only draw back...no longer. Does it need that little touring screen do you think? I would take the quick shifter but other than that it doesn't need anything at all.. with track noise limits at 95db I wouldn't be able to get the akra on it as that would be more....do you know what the db level is on the standard bike? Love that blue version by the way!

    Good to see another review Mark. I too have test ridden this bike and loved it . The only thing that may let it down for long days is the fuel economy looks pretty bad . I know most will say who cares but i like at least 300 k's before the fuel light comes on. Bigger tank on a tracer version or eco fuel mode for highway maybe ? Keep them coming

    • @markpulling12

      i am sure it will do better than that in general riding but as an everyday bike why can't they include an economy mode to go with rain ,B and standard . Wheelies in the morning , touring in the afternoon. Nice

    Nice work Mark. Do you ever ride with a pillion? I'm contemplating an upgrade from my trusty 600cc Hornet (lovely bike) but it will need to offer wifely comforts.....CheersTony

    • @markpulling12
      @markpulling12  8 років тому

      hi Tony yes I've got lots of experience taking pillions big mile munchers like fjrs and pans offer the best comfort for the passenger. most sporty bikes just offer a postage stamp for the pillion which isn't ideal then bikes like vfrs etc offer a good compromise you'll have to take your wife on a demo ride :). Good review as usual. I must admit though I have been unimpressed with the build quality of Yamaha's mt series. Give them 6 months and they look like a ten year old machine. But as you point out, superb handling combined with a great motor.

      Must politely disagree. My 2016 is immaculate, though I do 6k+ mile's per year and regularly get asked if it's new. Helps that I enjoy cleaning it, although the yellow wheels are a ball-ache!

    You say when you gun it the front wheel wants to come up, but when the front wheel is on the ground does the bike have a good front end feel ? does it feel planted and stable at higher speeds ? because I recently tested a 2020 mt09 and it didn't feel stable and planted.

    • @markpulling12
      @markpulling12  3 роки тому

      Hi Johnathon ...yes it feels 100% planted on the mt10 ... brilliant chassis ...I've reviewed the 09 aswell and may be the oe tyres it comes with aren't the best ...the 09 is definitely a more flighty beast

    I'd use a description of "moved the power down in the rev range" instead of "de-tuned", which implies less power. Yamaha has trademarked the moniker "Tracer GT" in Europe as of 4/17. In Europe, this bike is the MT10...and one owner there deftly coined it the "Empty 10" due to the short (~135 miles) fuel range. You can try touring on that in the US, but you'd better fill your luggage with fuel bottles. Sold my FZ09, but enjoying my 17 FJ09 (~200 mile fuel range) quite a bit, especially with the Ohlins suspension I just installed. I am interested in something like an FJ10. Fill those fake scoops on the tank with gas, add a more comfy seat, keep the sporty suspension, throw in some red, white and blue paint choices (skip the blurple and dayglo wheels, please), maybe dial back (at least shorten) the bug beak, and you will have another winner. Love that blue...couldn't bring myself to buy anything with day-glow wheels, and you can fry eggs on anything black in summer here in Texas. :)

      Good review. I'll second gshok on the low rpm pulls...never seen that in a bike review, and it definitely belongs in any street bike review-nice work. I love the low end grunt, fun factor and 200+ mile range of my FJ09. Know the FZ10 pulls well off the bottom has it on my radar as a possible next bike, but I can't get past the ~135 mile range of the FZ10. Hoping the "tracer GT" solves that issue.

    2022 has to be the year this bike gets a face lift. I was so close o pulling he trigger and trading in my CB1000R but after seeing the MT03, 07 and 09 asleep get a new look I’ve decided to wait and see if the MT10 gets a refresh for 2022 before I take the plunge and trade my CB1000R in for an MT10.

    Excellent review! I went to a Yamaha dealership a few weeks ago here in Sydney to test ride the MT 10. I really enjoyed it and I agree with you in the sense that it is a great bike with a fantastic engine but there is something plasticky about it that did not work for me. I genuinely wanted to like it more and forced myself to in a way but I ended up buying a Street Triple RX instead. If I lived in the UK and could ride those great country roads I would definitely buy a MT 10 !

    Where I live the pricing of Japanese bikes are ridiculous.
    The 2017 BMW s1000r 'premium' with the electronic suspension, quickshifter with autoblipping etc goes for about 12000 pounds.
    The 2017 KTM super duke goes for about 13500 pounds. I can buy the 2017 super duke with the track pack (quickshifter + autoblipper, engine braking control etc) akra end can, ergo seats and heated grips for the price of the MT10 :/
    The stock Mt10 goes for about 15000 pounds. Hardly value for money.
