45 70 Remington Hepburn

Mid 1800's vintage Hepburn action still on the job.

We buried dad with a 38-55 Hepburn rifle, built by Jim Hamilton from Oklahoma. Had a polished muzzle and would get a nice star pattern on it after firing. Very accurate rifle. SemperFi!

You must like the same rifles I do, I had one of these back in the late 1980's .40-70 SS 30" barrel and sights similar to what you have. Used a 400 gr. swaged paper patched bullet and I believe 28 grs. of IMR 4064 for around 1,220 fps. Would shoot into one large hole about 1 1/8 inches at 200 yds.

Thanks for the video but we need more DETAILS! What powder what bullet what everything etc... I want a Hepburn bad but just can't find one I can afford. My next will be either a Hepburn of a Ballard.

I got the action, a barrel blank, and two chunks of wood from a friend. Kind of like a kit! LOL

Hepburns has an extractor, no ejector. Some tines you have to drop the hammer on a fired ctg. because of the rebounding hammer.

i'm amazed at how many folks seem to have this need to load their 19th century real/replica guns with smokeless. dang. that ain't nice. go black and do it Right. better yet, ditch the greasers for paper patch slicks. double dang.
