  • Lt. Julia Clasby, a 15-year veteran officer who currently serves as the operations bureau lieutenant at Seal Beach (Calif.) Police Department, has experienced many “firsts” throughout her career.
In the more than 100-year history of Seal Beach PD, Clasby was the second female sergeant, first female lieutenant and only pregnant female officer. She coins herself as a “unicorn,” acknowledging that while you can find other female lieutenants, it’s rare to find ones with three children like her.
Her experience as a female officer rising through the ranks, as well as becoming a mother, was shared among her peers in what she calls a 5,000-word manifesto.
“After having my third baby, I was a new lieutenant looking for any female leader to have shared how they did it all. How they did it with kids. But I couldn’t find anything. Nobody was talking about it,” Clasby said.
Clasby decided that she would have to be the one to talk about it. To share her story. What she didn’t expect was how her story would resonate with thousands of other female law enforcement officers.
In Police1’s newest eBook, “Elevating women in law enforcement: Strategies for professional growth and career development,” Lt. Clasby shares her story, exploring the essential elements of career development for female officers, providing insights, practical advice and the tools necessary to navigate the path to success.
The eBook focuses on advancement opportunities, the power of education, and the inspiring stories of women leaders, all aimed at fostering a more inclusive and effective law enforcement community.
