Rotation of the vise pro tip for sure!! Keeping any material your tying tight to the hook before thread wraps will make a more consistent lasting fly 🪰👌 Thanks for sharing your talents 👍

Scud sow dub is the worst with this loosening! I find if I cut the fibers to no longer than 1/2 inch they work a bit better.

Hi Ohli. Fly Profile- This is an interesting thought. With modern barb less hooks, especially curved ones, the bare hook can be thought of as part of the "fly". or natural item in water. Using lateral thinking you use, what would you use to improve this by using a hair, modern thread, or quill, to "add" to the fly or pretend a second insect is there? You can see where I am going with this. Warning- might drive you mad!

Hi, your question is honestly confusing for me... If i got you right, you would like hook to behave as one insect while at the same time and on the same hook i tie another insect? Basically camouflage hook by using it as a body part of an insect or something similar?

@@Oholisfliesandfishing Hi Ohli, Yes, the main reason for an older fish to reject a fly could be because of the bare hook. The shape of modern hooks could suggest , for instance, a nymph attached to, or near to the fly. " Neutral" hook treatment may have already done this to some extent. The entomology profile of modern fly patterns has improved a lot, but the bare hook has not. So instead of hooking young silly fish, one could hunt the older fighting ones. This is a challenge that has not been done on record, and I think you have the ability to look at this over time. Yes it is possible to put on the hook double nymph, plastic shape, or camouflage paint, but in terms of excellence, and that is what you do, a quill profile insect or extension of the body(snatcher) or wire, or to look at this in a completely original way would be a world changer. The USD nymph has to some extent overcome this by changing the profile, the issue here is the last part of the hook material has to slide back for the hook to work. For instance using covering feather, " false" extended body, 0r neomydium dust. If this interests you it would be great fun to see what you would design that would be effective and applicable. Regards, M.

@@LemonGray well, i believe its presentation or lack of it that is putting the fish off. However, i cant prove it, since fish cant talk :)
I dont go after big fish only, primarily because they are scarce in areas where i fish. And where i know there are some they arent eating as often as young ones...
If you wish, please hit me an email, its easier to communicate there since its a bit confusing here :) I havent heard for quite a few things you wrote
