  • In this video, I'm going to show you how to generate perspective girds in blender 3D instead of having to manually measure and plot grids in photoshop or any other 2D application.

    This was really helpful. I needed to make a grid with the outer boundary in the shape of an oblate spheroid, so I used this to generate the grid and then found another video on how to use other shapes as an alpha mask. Just about wrapped my head around it all as a complete beginner. I wouldn't even be able to render a cube with tutorials like this so thank you.

    Not bad- I would try rendering the grid with Transparent world settings. Fewer steps. Another thing you can do is apply the checkerboard material to objects in the scene and you will get a vertical/horizontal perspective grid directly on your objects, making it easier to work out more complex perspective scenes with multiple vanishing points. But this technique is useful as well.

      Thanks for sharing that! It sounds like it would be really handy when sketching directly over a 3D blockout.

      Im new in blender and my english is not good enough to understand “apply the checkerboard material to objects in the scene…” can you explain more details? Did you means apply the nodes that make the plane into perspective grid to the objects in the scene to make grids appear on them when render?

    • @Pneumanon
      @Pneumanon Рік тому

      @@ToanLe-pf9xb Yes, I can explain- it's quite simple.
      1) Open up the Shader Editor.
      2) Create a new Material, or use the existing one if you prefer.
      3) In the Shader Editor, use Shift+A to open the Add menu, then search for 'Checker' or 'Texture'. You are looking for the Checker Texture node.
      4) Once the node is added, plug the Color output of the Checker node into the Base color of the Principled BSDF.
      5) Go to Material Preview mode or Rendered mode to see the checker pattern on your object.
      You can change the scale of the checker pattern inside the Checker Texture node. You can use the same Material on any object that you want to have perspective on it- ground planes, cubes, etc.
      That will give you a quick & easy horizontal and vertical grid that is in perspective no matter where you move the objects or camera.

    Thanks for this. This would come in handy for a drawing. Would it possible such that the camera is allowed to move freely in the world yet still have the grid?. Let's say you'd like to animate on this grid. You set the camera up along a path and use different lens, positions of the camera and so on. You export that as a PNG sequence and use it as your baseline shot. You can proceed then to draw the characters. How could this work in this instance ?
    Edit: nvm, I collapsed the modifiers and did a bunch of duplicates Set camera path and animate the focal lengths and path motion.

      That's an interesting application I hadn't considered. It's been terribly long since I did any animation. When I made this it was primarily for drawing, painting and photobashing. I hope you found this useful and I'd love to see what you create using this.

    Fantastic stuff! Does the Grid Generator Bundle work with the new Blender 2.93.2 version? Big thanks!

      Thanks and sorry for the late reply I haven't checked my youtube in the last few weeks. I'm currently running b3D 2.91.2 and it still seems to work fine. So it should work fine with 2.93.2 as well.

    Question: How to show perspective grid after you make a cube? Like cinema 4d showing perspective grid so easy.

    • @Art-of-Akrosh
      @Art-of-Akrosh  3 роки тому

      I've never used Cinema 4D . Could you please provide a link to what you are referring to?

    • @riccia888

      @@Art-of-Akrosh What I mean is just showing the vanishing point where the points end. Its a very good way to learn perspective IMO if you are a 2d artist.

    • @Art-of-Akrosh
      @Art-of-Akrosh  3 роки тому +1

      @@riccia888 That isn't the aim of this video. It is made with the assumption that you already know the ins and outs of
      basic perspective concepts. The goal here is to provide a solution to quickly generate grids for a given
      scenario without having to manually plot them by hand. The file I have included in the premium version of the
      product allows you to have full control over camera rotation, focal length, evelation and so on. Trying to acheive
      these results by manually plotting or using 2D perspective tools would be rather tedious and time consuming. In the interest
      of saving time and being more effecient I've created this bundle of grids.
      If you download the free pack you will see that some of the grids have the vanishing points on the page and some
      off the page. Having the vanishing points off the page increases the size of the COV enabling you to freely use the
      entire area of the grid without having to worry about any unwanted distortion. Hope this clarifies everything.

    how do you subdivide?

    • @Art-of-Akrosh
      @Art-of-Akrosh  3 роки тому

      Select plane> Tab to enter edit mode> select face and right click > select subdivide from the context menu> you can then specify how many cuts you desire in the small box on the left hand corner.

    Hi Arkosh! I jut bought it on your Gumroad. and I have a question about adding distortions for the lens. My windows on top are not updating. Please note that I'm not a 3d guy but I found this tool very cool.

      Especifically in viewer mode in compositing part, I got a blank grey box instead of a realtime view like you have.

      @@thegreathowdini Hi Jhun, Thanks for the support I greatly appreciate it.
      When adding lens distortion ensure that the node is connected to the viewer or else the render output will not update. Please let me know if this solves your problem.

      @@Art-of-Akrosh Hello Arkosh, Thanks a lot. I just figured out that there's a slight delay on my end maybe because my divide was slower. Reason why maybe I don't see it appears right away.

      @@thegreathowdini You're most welcome. The delay could be hardware related or perhaps you've set the subdivisions fairly high (at least that would be my guess).
