Sometimes I like to go back and re-watch videos from the previous years and see what "wisdom" (if I can even call it that) continues to ring true. They're supposed to be self-bailing, but I don't think i have the correct sizes in all the holes. I didn't learn until after I bought them that a mix of long and short are required.
I like your point about buying the highest quality rods and reels that you can afford to replace. I had a Lew's combo that was great.
