    Whoa. 1.5 boards?! no way, no freakin way! this project is simple and adds that rustic charm your life has been missing.
    hello! today we are building this sled, which is for decoration only. all you need is a 1x6x8 and a cedar picket. Im building this for our reindeer display, although i think my wife wanted more of a santa clause sleigh.
    to start, I cut both boards in half so they are easier to manage on the table saw.
    Rip each board down to one and three quarter inches so we have 6 strips of each to work with.
    set the cedar pieces aside, we wont be needing them until after we build the entire frame.
    set your saw angle to 30 degrees, and cut two stripes to 48". we will be using these for the runners. You can trim the other end to a 45 degree angle, matching your miters, or, if you built the jig from my nesting tree video, you can cut one end at the 60 degree angle, it just looks more sled railish i think. so your cuts will look like this or this.
    for the two interior pieces, cut two pieces to 14". These boards will be screwed to the top of our runners, 12 inches and 25 inches from the bottom. Screw or nail those into place.
    The top board wil need to be cut to 18 inches long. grab something round, and sketch the top two corners. measure in 3-1/2 inches inches, measure up 3/4 of an inche, and sketch the two holding spots as well. We do not want these to be perfect arches, so most of your can should be hanging off the edge.
    Cut out those sections using a bandsaw or jigsaw.
    Attach this piece 5 inches down from the top.
    Lastly, drill in two holes for the decorative rope.
    For the cedar tops, I leave them sliced in half and cut the extra off when I cutout the curves. Arange them ontop of the frame and either get a large cylindrical object, which I do not have, or simply find the center, and use a bit of string to draw in a gental curve, both at the top and the bottom.
    Before cutting these pieces out, I went ahead and painted my bottom frame, so it could begin to dry while i finished up the tops.
    Cut out the tops, during which, begin thinking about a finish for these top boards. you can either clear coat them so the cedar holds its redish color, stain them a different color, or paint them. No matter which option you choose, go ahead and run a sander with 60 grit sandpaper over the faces to knock of majority of the rough stringy cedar pieces, especially if you plan to paint your sled.
    once everything is dry, you can secure the top boards to your sled.

      @ I think the same size but with a little more design style, more pizzazz🤣🛷like the rails and the crossbars 👍🏻

  • @rbboneisme

    Just thinking if you put double sided tape on those cross braces and then stick the slats to it, maybe the struggle bus wouldnt hit so hard drawing the curves.

    • @WhosTheVoss
      @WhosTheVoss  2 місяці тому

      That would make the struggle bus a smoother ride!! :)

    Quick question what name brand is your bandsaw

    • @WhosTheVoss
      @WhosTheVoss  Рік тому +1

      Its a Craftsman, its pretty much identical to the Wen brand bandsaw. (And the Wen one comes with a fence I think)

      I have a 9" 2.5 amp Craftsman from Lowes. I use is for small round overs and little curves. Model is CMXEBAR600 :)
