I've edited a timelapse recording showing how I go about concept sculpting in Zbrush. Recorded at 2.5X speed.
(render passes at 10:18)

I´ve no idea what you are doing most of the time, but i love seeing it come togheter.
I couldnt stop thinking about the evolution of species, while seeing the development of your character.
awesome artwork.
WONDERFUL SKILLS! I'm amazed by this. now I'm challenged to draw something as amazing as this for my next art!
Magnifcient !!! Keep them coming !!
absolutely incredible
finally someone has shown the entire process to presenting your work, learned a lot from it, and truly love how you created diff dimension with extra veins sticking out(hope that's what that is) and btw, a week, this shows how we amateurs should spend month on single work without a single word of complain, thanks a lot again for showing your process
+Gigi Tsai thanks for watching I am glad that you learn something from it. I hope this video can inspire you to sculpt more and continue work harder.
Granado Espada ost ftw!
This is beautiful, I've never saw anything better than this.
+Jason Ma thanks glad you like it
amazing work
I a m d r o o l i n g. In all seriousness this is amazing, I hope to join the ranks of people like you soon. Cheers.
Great work! Amazing.
Wow...well done!
Thats amazing work
Da Killa... Luv'it 🤙
very inspiring work .
Art !
very cool. looks like the pod thing and also humanoid
Dude, you are awesome!
amazing
Lord knows If I saw that running at me, I'd be outta there xD
GREAT WORK! I love it
excellent!! 😍😂😍
wow! wow! WOW! you must create full tutorial. it's amazing
Sorry to burst your bubble, but there's no way a tutorial for this specific thing would get you to there. You have to put in work, and time, and practice.
Seems uncalled for. He was asking for a tutorial only. I'd watch it myself.
And who knows, this guy might be a super-artist who's already "to there", we have no idea.
Your both right, No tutorial will get you there over night however watching an over detailed tutorial on may teach you 1 or two things you can use to improve yourself. Maybe even a voice over of his process and what he's thinking where he's looking.
Look for a book called "zbrush creature design: creating dynamic concept imagery for film and games", it covers most of the process shown on the video ;)
amazing....
Well… that’s a Dungeons & Dragons Boss if I’ve ever seen one!! Great job!!!!
brilliant!
great work !
Cool works
You did it man
Awesome
Se tendrían que vender figuras escalas así. Me encantó😍
Masterfully crafted, you have some great design elements in there too, like the head shell.
If had to crit one thing it would making the spider legs fit more with the humanoid body and legs. Possibly If hips where angled forward to make his belly jut out more, and his humanoid legs where as thin as his spider legs, it might help?
+Louis Browne thanks for your critic really appreciate your time writing it down. The leg part is the most challenging during this project i'm having a hard time designing it, as you can see the end result leg looks way different from the timeslapse video. Once again thanks for your suggestion Louis I will keep in mind and apply it on my next project.
detail is crucial
Greate!!!
asome, continu like this
Excelent work, amazing concept... how do you add geometry? with Dynamesh?
Great job. Love your creature. Your video, well lets just say i am happy i am not epileptic
:-D
this is the fastest sculpting I have seen so far. somewhere areound 20 minutes and you were almost donw with the creature. Impressive
Hi this is a time lapse video not real time.
I know, In real time it is 20 minutes of sculpting, in the video 3 minutes but 20 minutes are fast
I dont think you understand. It took him about a week to sculpt it, but he shortened it down to 30 mins.
No, in 1 minute of the video. If he recorded it 20 times faster, it will still be 20 minutes .
Such a strong design! I still feel that texturing in ZBrush (spotlight) would have been a faster choice and you would need to add just the finishing touches in PS.
Would love to know your workflow. When you for example export your meshes to Keyshot are they in dynamesh or did you remesh everything?
Great job btw, beautiful!
+Downfall for this project I just decimate the final mesh, because keyshot can really support high resolution model and also keyshot doesn't support displacement map so it's better to just decimate it than using normal/bump.
+Justin Lee So basically... decimate(keeping all the details with lower polycount?) > export > render > comp?
Thank you!
+Downfall yes that's right.
nice
thanks you.
Was this at all inspired from eldrazi in magic?
hey awesome video mate , for details on the skin do I need to have a higher subdivision , I have seen that its hard to get details at a poly count of 100000 polys , I can get a a good base and muscle separation and definition , but for veins and wrinkles what should be the poly count.
+Ahmed shakib usually how zbrush works, for 100k poly count is good enough for secondary muscle form. For detail skin like pores veins and wrinkles you might need to separate them into different subtool like head, arm, leg and body. For each subtool should have around 1mil poly to capture the detail that you wanted.
very nice dude! I have one question, at 0:40 you stopped using dynamesh and kept working just with subdivs?
Hi Raul I didn't stop using dynamesh. I only stop after 5:00
would you be able to create a tutorial on all of the stuff you did once you were finished the sculpt itself?
Is Zbrush the only program used,or you used another for the colours and shading ?!
Amazing design, love that character. One thing that tickles me though, i'm guessing it's more of an artistic choice, to keep it sexier, is why such strong (muscled) legs when already having so much support from all the surrounding limbs. I would expect more atrophied leg limbs to balance between the look and anatomic "realism" :)
Enjoyed every second of that video, fantastic skills and talent. thank you.
Thanks for the feedback, always welcome any critics and suggestion. I totally agree with you about having atrophied leg because of the support from the surrounding limbs really appreciate you pointing that out, I will keep in mind and apply it on my future creature design.
Cheers,
Justin
Where did you learn to sculpt like this? I am do computer animation as a hobby and I would like to learn how to sculpt like this
Did you draw concept art before start sculting? or use any reference?
I follow a concept art by Anthony Jones, the rest art my artistic input.

very expensive good, but sorry my curiosity, what is the name of the first music video ? I googled for ' travels - estuera ' and came third music, grateful from now :D
I was supposed to be studying but then all of a sudden I was dancing to the music in my lounge room like a spaz. Still fun but
Great! Can you say how did you make projection from texture noise to the armor?
Sanek94cool do you mean at 22:15 ?
Justin Lee no, on 18:14. I don't know how it's called on Photoshop, but it's kind of the same as Spotlight in Zbrush.
Sanek94cool its clone stamp tool shortcuts key S and Alt to pick the area to clone.
Justin Lee thank you!
I NEED a tutor! I love this stuff, but I don't know to use zbrush well......... Would love if you could do some simple tutorials, that would be great!
can you help me understand how do you megde this little details into one with the main body. every time i try to merge them, they still stay remain sparate. and the do not take the shape when i smooth them. try'd to look for some guides on zbrush but found nothing.
The dynamesh tool in the geometry tab is likely what he is using. I dont remember the hotkey for it but it can physically connect two merged subtools. You will likely have to increase the resolution from the default to get good results.
man, this is awesome!
whats the name of the first music?
+RICARDOKJR I always credit the music i used. Here you go "Travels - Estuera"
why a video like this viewed 110k? it must be 10m .
Amazing. Could anyone tell me which brush has been used for creating the tubes?
+Thomas CurveTube brush
Thanks man
Was looking with pleasure. Didn't like the creature before you bring it in Photoshop. Any creature seems will have became good after your past editing :) Can the model be used like 3d model after Ps past editing or not?
looks like one needs have used another post processing software for 3d model, not as a picture
Well that's cool now 3D print a miniature for D&D
0_o woah
Very nice, and design is realy interesting too! I do not undertand why there are only 2,5k views...
+HoobriBoobri thanks for dropping by and be on of the 2.5k viewers really glad you enjoy the video, I will be very happy if you can share this video around cheers.
Ok!
In UA-cam, views are all about thumbnails
new necromorph wooooooooooooooooowww dead space 4 maybe? (sorry for bad english, using google translate)
nice tip man over 2000 mil, thack, that is going the easy for me.
friend a digital table is needed or can with the mouse thanks
I will recommend using a table
It keeps bothering me that the bone leg spike thingy is longer than the actual leg, it just wouldn’t make sense at all...
what programs are you using on this video ?
zbrush, keyshot, photoshop and after effect for editing.
thx
Can I ask why you use photoshop for the texturing instead of modeling software?
Photoshop progress usually just for concept stage. In the film/games before we do full texturing using proper pipeline tool we will use this method quickly get approve from client or art director.
what is the worst part of model or texturing?
which softwares you used?please tell me.
+CAPT.MUKARAM TAHIR CHAUDHARY zbrush, keyshot and photoshop
how many hours you have into this sculpt?
the whole progress is took me around 1 week
Reminds me of a 10x better spiderdude from SpyKids
about how long did this take from start to finish?
+Chris x around 1week
Blender?
draw arma from death note, please
its useless to make a texture through a render than through the model itself, there a some programs usefull for that like substance painter and others... OFC amazing sculpt you got there!
i agree, it would of looked better with proper textures, but i suspect he does it that way for intmancy or maybey for time.
please answer.
So this only took you 30 minutes to sculpt?
Hi this is a time lapse video not real time.
porn *.* Amazing
very expensive good, but sorry my curiosity, what is the name of the first music video ? I googled for ' travels - estuera ' and came third music, grateful from now :D
sorry forgot to credit it. the first song is Akashic Record - Granado Espada
