Actually EP under 20 went to play against Rhodesia under 20 in 1972 (we won) but told the organizers before that I cannot go because I did not have money for the Air Ticket and Hotel , they bought my and paid for everything ! I heard the heat in the stadium that day was in the 30s Celsius, and the humidity was crazy with them needing to get industrial fans out on the sidelines.
    I think fuses were quite short then for sure if any dark arts were being done. I do like Farrell as a competitor but not too surprised Brits lost it when he held on to him. Brits is a class player and they were great teammates at Saracens

I don’t know him personally , but talking to people that have met him , and listening to fellow players who have played with him and against him, the impression is that he seems like a decent guy. Certainly there are many fans that don’t like him for whatever reason, some perceive some personal slight he has caused be it real or imaginary, but that’s ok, it is the nature of sport fans. But despite this as you mentioned, amongst the players that actually know him he seems like a popular and respected figure. Go figure

    Redefined the bar for hookers in the Premier League. A man who played so well and so happily.
    I don’t understand this thing that so many appear to have about Owen Farrell. I’m not a Saracens supporter but when I see OF play, I see a winner; a man who gives everything; a man who has weaknesses but overcomes those with sheer effort. I would compare him to Kevin Keegan. KK admits that he wasn’t the most skilful of players but he more than compensated for that with effort. I would far rather have a man who gives his all than a more skilful player who only shines on front foot ball.

    • @mlguy8376
      @mlguy8376 2 роки тому

      Well said. But everyone loves a villain - It seems to revolve around his tackles, but that is the refs job to crack down on. It is almost as if the public think the ref is thinking it is Faz so let him off - but then on the flip side he does not get all the calls.

      @@danielschoeman5427 that’s an interesting reply. Examples of OF cheating? How many yellow or red cards shown to OF compared to, say, Eben Etzebeth? To say that cheating and playing dirty is not appreciated in the whole Southern Hemisphere is a development. Hansie Cronje is a name from the Southern Hemisphere that springs to my mind. I would even go as far as to say that the place of habitation, in either northern or Southern Hemisphere is not a defining factor in whether cheating and/or dirty play is deemed acceptable.

      @@iam.tshiya6302 a single tackle makes or breaks an opinion? If that’s the criteria, I must have been the most hated player on the planet. I remember a match at Twickenham between England and SA in the early 2000’s. Can’t remember the year but do remember Corne Krige was the captain. It remains outstanding in my mind because SA had realised or thought they could, beat a better England team by foul play. By far the dumbest strategy in the era of countless TV cameras recording everything.
      I admire Eben Etzebeth for his skills; he seems a nice guy when being interviewed but he is hardly an angel on the field. I’ve listened to Bakkies Botha and he had a real sense of humour but the perfect gentleman on the pitch?
      My point is that, just as English players are no saints, neither are the players of any country and demonising individuals for actions which many others copy, is just plain daft. In fact, at its extreme, that kind of prejudice is how conflicts are allowed to happen.

    • @iam.tshiya6302

      @@theofarmmanager267 you mis-understood what I meant...
      I can't have an opinion on Owen off the field, because I don't know how he is off the field...but I hear he's a good lad.
      But on the field, he's a rival...
      Just like every other opposition player that's not wearing a green Jersey, he's an enemy on the field...but, of course, I can't hate him when he's off the field. I played rugby and I know that the rivalry only lasts 80 minutes. After that we shake hands and we might even drink together.
