    Thank you for this. There really is nothing like walking in the footsteps of our ancestors. I have long been fascinated by the old Robin Hood ballads. If you'd like to chat about them visit the Robin Hood's Merry Men Facebook group. Maybe I'll meet Adrian at a storytelling event in Sherwood Forest!

    Nice to see my grandmother Jessy Hudson and her brothers Jack and Vaughn make an appearance in the video, outside the rock houses in Mansfield.

    Thanks Adrian for bring back such lovely memories-we did the same walk way back in 1990. Historians are always used too being up to there knees in mud. ! Glad you didn`t fall in the river. ! lol.

      Actually the cameraman fell in the mud on the way back; luckily I was carrying the camera!

    Adrian, a question for you. Is the route to the north from Bothamsall of the Kings Road known ? Did it run to Blythe, Tickhill via Bawtry to get to Doncaster ?

    • @pilgrimsandprophets
      @pilgrimsandprophets  2 роки тому

      It ran up to merge with the modern route towards Apleyhead. I would think then from Blyth to Bawtry but there were several routes on other sections so probably on this one too.

    Fascinating and as a local photographer you've inspired me to widen my area even farther North - Sub +1

    Have you ever been to Luds Church in Staffordshire? Amazing place. Also good and not too far away is Rowtor Rocks in Derbyshire. Lot of history and legends about both those places.

    I’ve lived in this area for many years. Now overseas. I must have driven past the bridle path sign many many times. Certainly made me want to check mit out when I return to see family. Covid free days coming hopefully.

    I always wondered why the Norman invaders would bother to build a castle/fortification at Bothamsall. Now it's clear. It was to control the very important river crossing and route used North and South along the Kings Road. Thanks for the history lesson and I'm looking at all the other ancient ways connecting the route. Like Crookford Waters.

    • @pilgrimsandprophets
      @pilgrimsandprophets  4 роки тому

      Yes, good point, it is quite close to the crossing. It is also forgotten that there was a castle at Haughton.
