Professor Kirby - you need to ask yourself the question who started this trade war? No use putting equal blames on both countries when it is obvious that the US wants to finish off China and all the bad things have been started by the US in recent years, not benefitting ordinary Americans.
If the US put a sanction or tariff on China, don't think China will sit there doing nothing like a fool. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction - we all learnt this in school in our physics lesson. Of course China will do something bad to the US after been slapped a tariff of more than one hundred percent. Not 100 percent, more than 100 percent.
And don't tell me that Chinese governments support Chinese companies. The US does the same. Only poor Europe is not doing this because they don't have the money to support their own companies.

The civil aviation industry is the next field where cooperation with China is essential for Boeing to survive and not to file bankruptcy or simply disappear from earth !

    • @George-k6o9t
      @George-k6o9t 6 місяців тому

Unfortunately for Boeing, due to the increasing list of sanctioned products that U.S. companies and their affiliates are not allowed to be sold to China, this has made the Chinese particularly nervous as to when and which products will next fall before the U.S. President's axe. Consequently, this has accelerated China's own development of its "Yangtse CJ1000 and CJ2000" high by-pass turbofan engines to replace the Boeing- Safran "LEAP" engines in use in its Comac C919 and C929 planes. This means that instead of purchasing Boeing 737 Max planes and "LEAP" engines, they will slowly disappear into the sinking sunset and is what happens when customers are made to feel uncertain of their relationship with their seller.
It is a strange way to treat your customers actually - the Australians found out when their previous Prime Minister began making salaciously insulting remarks about China and the Chinese slashed their purchasing of a swath of farm and mining produce from Australia and turned to alternate partners who were only eager for the extra business. It took a change in government which is more amenable to the Chinese that trade relationships began to return to normal.

As the Biden administration has been gradually institutionalizing cold-war 2.0 fashion against China, that kind of trust has been irreversibly broken, so neither sides wants to compromise their own supply chain for that kind of cooperation. Besides, the Union seems the big headache thing or roadblock to the cooperation.

According to the Oxford Dictionary, Democracy is A political system that allows the citizens to participate in political decision‐making, or to elect representatives to government bodies. In the US, it definitely has a election system, but does the citizens really participate in the decision making? It seems the capitalists/the rich controls the decision making while majority who cannot give significant donations has no influence at all.
In terms of national security, how can someone in drowning in debt ever feel secured?

Because they are not good campaign funders.
The American political systems is driven by campaign funding.
First the 2 parties have conspired to pass all sorts of rules and regulations That block all other 3rd parties from gaining any representation or seats in the legislative bodies of the United States both at the federal and state level.
Then within those 2 parties if you can't raise money you ain't going nowhere in either party.
3/4 of their entire time of an elected official term is spent raising money for their political campaigns, not governing.
The other 1/4 of the time is spent implementing policies and will through legislation that will benefit their largest donors.
Hence why the United States is in the shape it is.

Professor Kirby starts with framing that implies our policy dysfunction results from policy choices by both nations: " happening as a result of the policies of both countries" in a sentence closing with " and in particular those in this case of the United States" ... implies a false narrative of both side-ism.
    Cognitive distortion:
His assertion that protectionism is mutual [Washington and Beijing when in point of fact our100% tariffs are not mutual in the least
He pejoratively calls China paranoid for believing our government is deliberately attempting to deny China technological advancement when in fact that is the avowed policy of our government.
Pathetic: our national policy attempting the "Tanya Harding" strategy of knee capping China instead of competing honestly.... and sadly also the cognitive dissonance evident in the false framing of mutual responsibility when our self destructive clean energy policy of containment is a bed of our own making.

The Professor's talking points are exactly China's talking points. There is no difference whatsoever. No mention of the incredible open, generous, and gracious support of America for China over the last 30 years. Not even a thank you from China. Just hostility, hacking, spy balloons etc. China took full advantage of American diplomats and played them for fools over the last 3 decades. China is where they are because #1), the hard work and intelligence of the Chinese people and #2) because of American support technologically, open markets, keeping the south China Sea open for commerce, etc.. Americans can't even buy property in China while China certainly can. Reciprocity in hundreds of ways has been non-existent. So America is finally waking up.

THe US' problem is that it has developed a huge inferiority complex, therefore it can not see itself competing with anyone, much less China. It is also stuck in the 1950s mentality, when it was a real super power and could bully other nations. It certainly could still bully nations like Syria, Afghanistan and some nations in Africa. But it's learning really quick that China is a different story all together. While the US was busy waging multiple wars all over the place, China was busy educating its citizens, building infrastructure, creating prosperity for its citizens, and building healthy and respectful relations with other nations. IMO if anyhone nation deserves our respect, and should be emulated, it's China.

Erm where have you been in the last 40 years? Requiring joint venture with a local company where the FDI does not maintain full control is a form of protectionism. Since we are watching a Q&A on clean tech so cars are on topic, Tesla is the only foreign brand allowed in China with full ownership mainly because Tesla came late into the market. Policies like these are not unique to China but it is a form of Protectionism to enable domestic brands to have a shot to grow and mature instead of totally crushed by more advanced and larger foreign brands. So Tesla got it good since by the time it enters the China market, the domestic brands have grown and matured and can compete on a global basis. This is just one example. The main difference here is China tells you straight to your face while Murica makes up BS excuses to protect their “good guys” image that really only exist in their political elites minds.
