Okay but seriously, the doctor's solo during the birth gave me all the feels! Awesome!
Yeah Imagine an actual doctor singing this while helping a baby come into the world
He's great.
@@estelacastro2746 if he changed coats doing it out of nowhere, I'd wonder what was in the needle he put in my spine.
Nah that’s facts
I have a theory that he auditioned for Magnus and didn't get the part but they thought he was a good singer so they gave him a solo
Imagine giving birth and all you see is the doctor who is meant to deliver your baby in a mighty fine suit dancing 👁️👄👁️
My sister and i have an inside joke about that part "I AM HAVING A STINKING BABY!! *every life!-* "
There just exited about the paycheck that’s coming after.
Also, the doctor has a costume change at one point.
Ha! My dad told my mom “would you like to be giving birth while a concert is in front of you?” And my mom said “I would’ve LOVED it!”😂
LITERALLY while I was watching the movie I was like, “imagine seeing this while you’re giving birth” 👁👄👁
As Danny Devito said “Most parents believe their children are the most beautiful creatures ever to grace the planet. Others take a less emotional approach”.
That’s what this whole song said perfectly.
Isn’t Danny Devito Matilda’s dad from the original movie?
@@GoldenBunny3079yes
I love how absolutely bonkers this song is. The goofiness of the parents, the babies singing, the Wormwoods being the worst parents of all time, the insane vocals on this snappily dressed doctor, and the incredible sets. It all works perfectly.
The point of this song according to the book: Most parents think of their child as the greatest thing ever, and that is perfectly normal, if annoying. Most parents will look at their child as a genius even after eating dirt. Annoying yes, but normal. But there are a few parents who do the opposite which is much worse than calling a brat a golden child. This is the case of the Wormwoods, who think of their extraordinary girl as nothing more than a scab.
I thought that'd be something that people could understand without explanation tbh. I don't think that you need to even relate it to the book, just the general world.
@@AverageDunce Unfortunately, social media has shown us that, yes, some people really do need this explaining to them.
@@AverageDunce you’d be surprised how many wormwoods exist
You’re missing a big chunk- every life IS a miracle. The musical has a line that says, “it’s a miracle of calculus, that there be so many and they still be miracle”
Yup, and I would wager that the writers turned that little text until this big of song and put is it right at the beginning so that parents wouldn't accuse the show of presenting all parents as horrible
The doctor knew he wouldn't be in much of the movie, so he did his damnedest to leave an impression in the few minutes he had.
@@gregelchert752 Well, mission accomplished
FR to me the doctor was one of the most memorable. i keep coming back to this vid just to hear him sing
hehe in my country we are poor, so doctor play probably Sergei too :-D
@@sarkajindrichova6390 script for stage version says doctor can double as escapologist and sergei
@@sarkajindrichova6390 I just finished a community theater production of "Matilda " last week, and our Doctor did indeed double as Sergei. 😊
The irony that out of all these parents so, so excited to meet their babies and just thinking their child is the most amazing in the world. The only two parents who DONT want a child end up winning the baby lottery with a genius super-powered baby that other parents would die for
Tha babies are soo cute but I just truly love the parents crooning over the kids more than the kids themselves. Its something so wholesome and cute. Parents are annoying with that “my kid’s the best” attitude, but honestly its so innocent and beautiful when theyre born.
And that goddamn doctor had me cracking up. His voice is warm and that dance in that suit is so great! I love this song.
It gives me baby fever seeing all those parents coo over their adorable babies
Holy crap, me too
My twin sister and I were just gushing over how cute the babies are - although with our luck, we might only be able to adopt or foster. 😢
@@Digitalfairy I wish you and your partner all the best at getting a child you want so much 💪🏼💪🏼
@@gregorbaby4269 Aww, thanks though I was talking about my twin sister and none of us have romantic partners yet. But we still want to raise a family someday.
This movie is stellar. It gives me faith in children’s entertainment, especially compared to stuff like “We can be Heroes”.
Is it that bad?
Yes. We can be heroes is generally poorly made, and the message it has is clichéd and not well delivered
RNB !
I would recommend Mitchell’s vs. the Machines
I wish they would’ve kept Mrs. Wormwood missing the dance competition hence why she doesn’t like Matilda.
Elaborate
@@toastee5421 go watch the musical from broadway
@@toastee5421 In the musical version she misses her salsa dancing championship because she has to give birth to matilda and there's also a number called "loud" that was also cut ill add links.
the bi-annual international amateur Salsa and Ballroom Dancing Championships
@@BubbaMaraj7241 Another reason why I hate this movie.
The part where the Wormwoods sing "Why do bad things always happen to - Good People" sends me everytime. They're so dramatic and clearly not good people 😅
In the stage musical mrs Wormwood hated Matilda because she was going to take a plane to Paris to dance on a Salsa competition, but she missed that chance by having Matilda. This doesn't justify her terrible parenting, but makes it comprehensible and it mocks parents who hate their children by ruining their golden chances, like they had any fault.
They’re also _not all self-aware._
love this!! and i'm so glad they put mr and mrs wormwood's duet back into the song. i was so sad when the broadway version cut it
It was definitely there when I saw it, maybe it just didn't make it to the soundtrack?
@@blueturtle3623 Its in the west end version but not the broadway
@@BubbaMaraj7241 When I saw the West End show in 2018 they cut it off too.
@@edanlaron5552 oh it must only be in the cast recording then, my bad!
That's why this version is 5 minutes, with only about 2 ½ minutes actual singing, yet it still features the full 5 mins in the audio soundtrack. Still an incredible opening number!
As someone who has worked as a labor nurse I found this hysterical! I was laughing out loud. It makes me want to break out in song while at work! 🤣
Dad = I wanted a son
Mom = I didn't want a baby
Doctor = You got yourselves a Miracle!
0:32 always gets me, so cute and I feel like it’s a blooper and they left it in
Never gets old😂💜
Same here
It also ties into the lyric when the boy says, "One day when I'm older, I will be a soldier and _shoot you in the face."_
@@rogue7723 punch
0:32
Ok, I’m a huge Matilda fan. And the part when one guy goes “take another picture of our pumpkin from this angle over here” 0:34 I love it so much😍 I don’t know whyyy
SAME!
It’s literally so satisfying to listen to. I can’t explain it 😂
ME TOO!!! I don’t know what it is about it, but I love that part.
Literally so satisfying to hear with my tism brain and I can’t explain why it just is
It gives me a vibe😂 don know how to explain it
the line “and i will PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE!” is so funny for no reason, especially with the kid whos shown right there punching the other two
the only other line that comes close to it is “with no sign of a winky-dink at all”
@Greg Elchert so annoyed its not there. but it makes sense bc it needs to be more 'kid friendly'
I think that the take where the baby punches his two brothers was just so sudden and funny enough that they had the kid who voiced him sing that line. They just had to come up with a line that can sync with what the baby was doing 😂 Obviously you can’t tell a baby to do the take again if he messed it up. It was just impeccably on point
The images of the beautiful babies with their older selves narrating is just so sweet. 🥺🥰
Matt Henry has a fantastic singing voice. 😁
The way the middle triplet punches the other 2 so cutely🥺.
Ikr
My kids cracked up at that line and clip. I've watched that part like 7 times and don't get tired of it.
“Punch on the face!” SO CUTE❤
🥰😍
I love the inclusion of a Downs baby at 4:02
I noticed it too as most of my friends have Down syndrome.
I agree!!!
Yessss loved that!
“With no sign of a winky dink at all”
Best line in the whole movie, ngl.
1:34 The doctor's subtlest of eye movements is hilarious. It's also not something you could do onstage - you'd have to lower your whole head to stare so that the people in the back of the balcony could see you're doing it.
3:37 “with no sign of a winky dink at allll!” 😂
The song is true. Children are miracles. They are innocent and are the future. 👶🏻
the guy playing the doctor didn't have to go that hard but he did
I'm glad they removed the more mean spirited tone thst this song had in the musical. It's makes the emotions the emotions a lot more sincere and wholesome
I hate that they removed the sarcasm. 😬
@@000euMJ I like this version better - there's plenty sarcasm in the others and righteous anger in Naughty.
Imagine your about have a child and then your doctor just starts throwing down those dance moves 😂😂😂
I take it as a sign that my kid is destined to be a star ⭐
OKAY so no one gonna talk about that doctor? i love him omg.
Also I really love the weird and surreal vibe this opening number gives because it really sets the tone of the entire movie (the babies singing and having weird facial expressions, the west anderson-y setting, the wack parents, the doctor literally having a concert in front of mrs wormwood giving birth, lmao i just love it)
Am I the only one that thinks 1:02 goes hard 🔥 It’s so catchy
FRRR
It is ridiculously difficult to sing lol 😂
@@TaxmicRug45879IKR
ME TOOOOO its so goooood
It's so chaotic that it's good
Whoever directed/created this opening number is a genius. The transitions, the color scheme, the hallway shots, the camera rolling down the hall, the casting and wardrobe. UGH SO DAMN GOOD!!!
1:29 A baibei? Im not Having a baibei
The babies are so adorable ❤
further proof that gospel choirs make great things even greater
ms wormwood: *giving birth*
the doctor and the nurses: *casually dancing and out of nowhere the child appears*
In the stage musical it was “shoot you in the face” but you wouldn’t be able to pull off the visual pun with it.
(Also kind of bummed that they didn’t keep the
“It must be some modern miracle of calculus
That such frequent miracles don’t render each one unmiraculous”, that part was such a good bit)
Tim Minchin writes terrific lyrics.
I just watch the movie and it was spectacular it is more than I expected it to be really I'm filled with glee🤩
yes yes yes yes
2:47 It's giving Simba vibes
lol yeah
1:56 I love this part of the song
Bless Matt Henry’s voice
The line "With no sign of a winky-dink at Allll!!" Had me laughing a lot
3:37 right here!!
Matilda could’ve been put up for adoption
I think the stylization here is very good! I'm glad they keep it up through the movie. It's very on-brand for a Matilda movie. Little sad they cut out big brother, Telly, and Loud though. It kinda makes the Wormwoods seem less interesting.
I agree, they added humor to the story and explained why the Wormwoods were so awful to Matilda. Plus Telly and Loud were my fav songs, both incredible show-stoppers!
We said the same thing! 'Loud' is so fun onstage & I was excited to see them re-imagine it for the screen.
It fleshed out their characters more
I don’t know how Telly would work in a movie since Mr. Wormwood was addressing the audience before that song
@@h193013 Very true, it's special to the show!
2:16 why does this guy look like august the duck. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Imagine the doctors and the nurses do that dance each time there about to help a woman give birth😂
I'd punch someone.
"Get it out of me allready!!!!"
Then those guys went to both medical and musical school
Matilda’s mom was in total denial 😂😂😂😂
i love the lauren ward (og miss honey) cameo at 1:00!!
omg i never knew that!!!!
A bit of a bittersweet plot, yet heartwarming with a happy ending :) Love the doctor's solo... gives me all the feels!
Love it when she says "A baby?"
Has my daddy told ya?🤨 the face I can’t 😅😂
I’m crying real tears to the point that they gave birth to a cute baby
Fun Fact:The doctor is played by Matt Henry who also played Lola/Simon in the UK Kinky Boots pro shot.
Am i the only one's who's favorite part is 3:50 and not the doctor part? I just love those strings 🎻
No I like it too
SAME
It’s 3:40, and it’s mine too
The start 🥲.. It should be like this for every baby and the world would be a better place🙏
THE BEST PART IS HOW THE PACE OF THE SONG CHANGES PERFECTLY
“punch u in the face😊”
A baby in Matilda

The way ms wormwood talks is so funny.
I just watched the musical and it was very good they have some parts that were in the movie in there and some that weren’t. It was very surprising to see music added in and the different ways they added certain concepts from the movie but overall it was very good and I do recommend
This movie has nothing to do with the 1996 movie, it's an adaptation of a musical that's been in London for 11 years...
@@jokerface20 really that’s so cool

Doctor and the Nurses: *grabs remote* Yall wanna play just dance?
I'm the mother of a 2 month old boy and I really recognize all the stuff the parents are saying XD Been guilty of saying them myself.
It's thoughtful they include parents holding bereavement boxes.
0:32 is so funny and adorable
this is so surreal and weird. just like Roald Dahl. I kind of love it!!
0:15 aww so cute 🥰
When the song said punch you in the face got me rolling on the floor😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I was thoroughly impressed with this entire musical. Simply superb. Bravo 👏🏼
The babies’ singings at the beginning of the movie sound adorable
I like songs that overlap the voices together

The fact that hes dancing while shes about to give birth 2:18
This doctor would gonna HATE the principal haha
The doc’s solo and the babies are the best thing. I don’t care about anything else
best part 1:01 to 1:29 (organized chaos: the beautiful madness)
Meraviglioso
The doctor needs to drop an album right this second
The mother: having the most excruciating experience in her life
The Doctor throwing a dance party!
This tops all other Matilda's including the stage one
Oh cute baby 🤩🤩🥺🥺🥺
Mrs. Wormwood: *Suffering and in pain literally giving birth*
Doctors and nurses: *I'LL DANCE DANCE DANCE WITH MY HANDS HANDS HAND*

The person playing Matilda's mom is really funny. That whole scene was hysterical.
Those babies can be pretty cute but the song makes me cry 😭
Matt Henry rocks, holy moly, turning this song into a good thing
