  • The Adidas Adizero SL2 and New Balance Rebel v4 are both lightweight everyday running shoes designed to offer a fun and fast ride. The recently released Adizero SL2 ($130) has impressed me so far during testing, so I decided to put it up against the Rebel v4 ($140), current reigning champ for lightweight speed. In this video, I give an overview of both shoes, take them out for a comparison test run and let you know my thoughts on which shoe is best for you.

    Totally agree! The blue skies (and/or clouds), bird songs, and the question "what am I going to see today?" get me out the door most mornings. Ran in my old trusty Reebok Floatride Energy 3s and had a great time on the streets. Keep doing your thing!

      I have both and using the SL2 as an uptempo daily trainer and the SN Rise for long runs and easy/recovery efforts. The SN Rise has replaced the Novablast 3 in my rotation. They are both daily trainer type shoes, but work well for different types of daily runs as I detailed above. Great 1-2 combination.

    The best thing about this shoe is that it's from Adidas. Adidas has a global presence (unlike Hoka, On, Saucony, even NB), and the SL2, being the cheapest running shoe in the Adizero lineup, is a really solid choice for many runners out there. Hats off to Adidas for bringing it to the masses.

    I have 20 miles on my Adizero SL2 and it’s quickly becoming one of my favorite all time daily trainers. Feels great at a variety of paces from 6:50-7:30 speed work to 8:00-8:30 recovery efforts. I agree the first run out of the box was almost chaotic in nature with how soft and bouncy they were, but now they have a natural feel that can do anything you ask them to do. Keep up the great work and looking forward to seeing how the SL2 holds up for you as you continue to test the durability.

      @@supwell Everytime I put in the SL2, the one word that comes to mind is “Fun”. It’s really quite refreshing to run in for that natural feel and being non-plated in a world where tech is king.

    The more you talk about the sl20 the more I want them. I recently got the rebel v4 and have put about 100km in them. And if I'm honest, my first run in them I was kind of disappointed. The shoes were soft but I felt like I wasn't getting much energy return, almost like I was running on a sponge. For reference I'm 5'8 165lb and fairly muscular build, forefoot to midfoot striker. I've been running in the endorphin speed 2 for years and I raced my last marathon in the under armour velociti elite v2. Both those shoes have similar foam that are more firm and responsive. So the rebel v4 was quite different from those shoes.
    After 100km the shoes have broken in more and they're soft, comfortable, and light weight. I agree that the shoe makes you do the work and you don't get as much help from the shoe like you would with a plated shoe and you need to have good mechanics.
    I mainly use the rebel v4 for easy days and shorter intervals. I feel like at faster intervals the foam is bottoming out almost and I don't get as much back from the shoe, but it makes up for it somewhat with its light weight, flexibility, and rocker.
    I think my biggest con with the rebel v4 is the durability. After 100km some of the exposed foam is starting to get scuffed. I just started marathon prep for my next race in October and I'll be using the rebel for easy days, but I don't think they will last years like my Endo speed 2.
    As you said, I think the sl20 would be a better all around marathon training shoe than the rebel. But the rebel is a great option for easy days and some short distance speed work.
    Thanks again for the great informative content and Keep putting in that work.

    Get some recovery man, or I'm gonna be calling a moratorium on further shoe tests. 😱😥 If someone had told me a month ago that SL2 would be this fantastic, I wouldn't have believed them. But here we are baby - the new king has ascended to the throne. First time I hear about the negative drop, although it makes sense for heel strikers and shoes with really low drops. Have a nice weekend, man!

    Adios vs Rebel
    Takumi vs Pacer
    Adios Pro vs SC Elite
    Prime X Strung vs SC Trainer
    am personally excited for adios 9 and the new pacer

    Yo. I know you haven't run it it, but the SL2 feels like the Prime X Strung 2 Jr. Even those 3 cutouts on the sole are the same...fast cushioned...Thoughts?
    If I were to suggest a video, I would want to know your concerns with Race day shoes at higher mileage. During a Marathon build I want to be confident in my Race day shoes....I have five 20+ mile runs in the build...if I were to run 120-150 miles as a 175 lb dude on my race day shoe before running the Marathon....would you be concerned about the foam? for any of them? Looking at Adios Pro, Endorphin Pro, etc. Clayton Young mentioned piling his whole build on a pair of Skys and then running in a fresh pair in Paris. Most of us not buying two pairs of Race shoes.

    Just a question. Do you look at your heart rate when running? What's your usual heart rate during these types of run? Beginner runner here. Thanks

    • @supwell
      @supwell  15 днів тому +1

      Great question - I don't look at heart rate much anymore. I like training by effort on my everyday runs - making sure I'm running at a pace that feels relaxed. And then by effort and pace for my workout days - so going by a pace target and then if that target feels too aggressive for that day adjusting down. Training by heart rate can be good if you like the data and getting deep in the numbers, but for me I found it wasn't that enjoyable (focusing on trying keep a low heart rate for example made me feel like I was actively making my heart rate higher 😂). And as for the second part of your question my heart rate is probably between 135 to 155 on everyday runs and 160 to 180 on faster workout days

    Man I just need to know, SL2 or Novablast 4 LOL. I have NB Fresh Foam More V4 and the 1080V12s, I HATE the 1080V12s and the mores just don't fit my foot great, toes go numb and seem to have an issue on the right foot where the edge of the inside annoys the side of my foot! I need a good everyday training shoe for my first 10k/half-marathon this year.

    • @supwell
      @supwell  16 днів тому

      SL2 leans faster and softer and Novablast leans firmer and for more relaxed paces. SL2 is a bit more versatile and a lot better for fast running, but the Novablast has a lot more cushion and protection - so I'd choose based on that!

    Two opposites: The firmness at the right point and high performance of the LightStrike (Pro or not) of the Adidas models against the unresponsive softness of the FuelCell of the New Balance models. I own the SL1, the Takumi Sen 9 and the Adios Pro versions as well as the New Balance Rebel and Elite V3. Personally, I can't even make a comparison, such is the superiority of the Adidas models. NB only wins in comfort and softness. Whoever seeks this, ok. But those who run aiming for quality training, performance and performance throw money away with these NB midsoles. Unfortunately, such an iconic brand, I believe, due to the success of its 1080 model, which is soft in its high damping proposal, expanded this exaggerated softness to all its models, making them practically inoperative for quality races.
