Thank you for this simple solution. I am not a carpenter and some videos are too complex. I appreciate you putting this out here for others like me. 🙏🏻❤
I'm working on a single wide mobile home. This is perfect. I don't need overkill or fancy. Thank you.
Thanks! Just what we needed.
THANK YOU! Have to do this in our barn- down to the fun stuff now ;)
Seems like the simplest way to go without getting overly fancy.
I have replacement windows in my home and there's little room for a sill or even building out with moulding. The thickness from the window edge into the room is the width of the drywall - 1/2". With this limited dimension, any suggestions for building out and installing a sill, etc. using 1x4? Thanks.
Casing should always have a reveal from the jamb, putting it flush never looks good. Also make sure your reveals around the window are correct- you don't want an uneven amount of the window frame showing from one side to the other. Easiest way to do this is measure and pre make the jambs, put them in as one, shim square to the window, nail off and add casing with a proper reveal back.
Your just regurgitating something you watched or googled. As long as the finished product looks good and holds up that is all that matters.
@@patrickbellefleur5508 and it doesn't look good without a reveal, and putting wood flush never looks good after paint. I'm not regurgitating anything. I've been a professional carpenter for 20 years. I know what is proper work and what isn't. If you don't understand why a reveal is important then you haven't done much finishing carpentry at all.
If you want to know more about why reveals are done and basic carpentry there is info online. I've already given a tip on how to make things easier when building the jambs.
@@chrisburns5691 A professional explains why you don't do something other than " it doesn't look good ". And a true craftsman knows that everyone works different.
@@patrickbellefleur5508 said by someone who doesn't understand the concept of reveals. Finishing work is cosmetic, so yes it depends how it looks, the door or window will still function with wonky reveals.
@@patrickbellefleur5508 have you ever actually done this work or are you attempting to sound intelligent based on your limited knowledge of the subject.
The why and hows of reveals are taught to first year apprentices. Work without a proper consistent reveal indicates an amateur or someone not skilled with finishing work.
Hi there what kind of wood did you use?
I've probally done this 50 times, yet, I've never done it without any reveal. My thinking is that stuff moves slightly. I guess the reveal, hides the move. I think cutting flush (outside molding, attached to window trim), will leave the cracked paint, where things are moving. Your's Looks good also.
Hey atleast you have a reason or some sort of logical explanation regarding the reveal.
What to do when your window is in concrete wall, actually top and bottom of the window is a steel, I live in the unit block
I suppose I would use some kind of adhesive (Liquid Nail, Loctite Powergrab, etc)
The most important part was how you cut the scribbed piece and you skipped it.
