He was right about the live version... Best outdoor recording I have ever heard and seeing the little kids watching listening priceless. Worth a listen even if you just play it for yourself Harri.
When I saw Kenny in concert, he finished the night sitting on the stage edge, just an acoustic guitar and we were transported to the 100 Acre Wood. Magical memory.
I was really into the Pooh books as a kid, so this song really resonates with me. I also have a bit of a Peter Pan Syndrome, so the idea of returning to the fantasies of my childhood and escaping into them for good really appeals to me.
The female vocal is by Amy Grant. Beautiful voice...and I agree. I think the song is about remembering your inner child when you become a grown up w/ responsibilities.
Yes Harri, quite a beautiful song. My favorite version is Loggins and Messina. He wrote this upon graduating High School realizing he was now an adult expected to make a life for himself, but of course not wanting to leave carefree childhood behind.
Although Loggins wrote the song when he was 17(!), he came back to "The House at Pooh Corner" when he became a parent, writing the last verse from the perspective of a man who found his inner child again through the slumber of his son's love for the same bear. Marvelous song writing, sweet lyrics and a heartwarming sentiment.
This song played a ton when I was a kid my mother loved it as much as I did, hell I loved it because of it being kid-centric she just loved it, I miss her.
Harry - Such a beautiful song about Winnie The Pooh-gorgeously sung by Kenny Loggins. My two Nieces are having baby boys this September and November and I’m sharing with them. I always loved Pooh as a child along with my twin Brother. ❤❤ ❤❤
Wow Harri! "Return To Pooh Corner" had that magical touch that songwriters seldom achieve. Kenny Loggins mentioning Christopher Robin in the lyrics took me to 'Pooh Corner'. A wonderful place in my imagination, Harri.
The best version of this song is with Jim Messina when they were together as Loggins and Messina. So beautiful, from the mind of 17-year old Kenny, lamenting growing up.
I disagree! I have heard them all and you can't beat this version with the crowd around him and grown-ups wiping away their tears. His band is top-tier to boot!: ua-cam.com/video/_iV4mol-Otw/v-deo.html
@@pncombies You're welcome to your opinion. As a college student, I listened to the Loggins and Messina version, too many times to count. It still brings tears to my eyes. We're lucky Kenny recorded multiple versions for all tastes.
Agree 100 Holly F and during my college coffee House days and when my oldest daughter was little I sang this no less than 10 billion times and I still love it and modeled it after the original L&M record. Which is where I learned it from. But I can certainly see the appeal of this one with Amy Grant.
I'm so glad you loved this song! It brings tears to my eyes as well. My sons are all in their 40"s now and beautiful memories came flooding back as I listened to this.
36 yrs ago when my son Christopher was born i would sing this song to him especially if he was cranky...in fact during dinner he would always cry and his 8 year old sister his father and i would take turns singing ti him. Besutiful memories
This is a remake, featuring Amy Grant as a guest. The original recid eas by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and shortly thereafter Loggins and Messina put it on one of their albums. Kenny wrote this song when was only 17 yrs old, still in high school. I believe that the lyrics did not originally include the final verse that is heard in this version, as it was clearly added by Kenny later in life. ("It's hard to explain how a few precious things seem to follow throughout all our lives. After all's said and done I was watching my son sleeping there with my bear by his side. So I tucked him in, kissed him, and as I was going I swear that old bear whispered "Boy, welcome home!")
Great song. Please listen to the version off of the Sitting In album by Kenny Loggins and Jim Messina. Another great song off that album is Vahevala. For your four year old child, play him Livingston Taylor's song Pajamas. One more for kids is Kites Are Fun by The Free Design. You'll both love them. Enjoy!
Hi Harri ... I wanted to add some interesting facts ... the book series about Winnie The Pooh is VERY special in that, Christopher Robin WAS the author's (A.A. [Alan Alexander] Milne) REAL son, and he wrote the books for him meaning, his REAL name was Christopher Robin Milne !!! However, all his life, Christopher Robin (CR) hated his dad for it ... 1 of the most beloved children's books in history !!! CR said he started getting bullied when he was 8 because of the books and associated poems but, c'mon, I would've celebrated them and my father for it. Unfortunately, his father died when CR was just 36 years old, and they never did reconcile their differences. That's a sad story, but personally, I'm glad that millions of kids everywhere have heard and loved the books and poems.
I used to play this for my children when they were going to sleep. It makes me tear up just thinking about it as they are adults now 😊Such a beautiful, special song. Thank you.
Never knew anything about this album until I picked it up in a thrift store just out of curiosity last week. I just finished listening to it and while It''s not the kind of music I usually listen to, it is now in my list of rare albums that I can listen from front to back. This is some quality music.
This song is near and dear to my heart have been a Pooh fan since I was little. I even had a Winnie the Pooh record player. And I love Kenny Loggins too!
"House At Pooh Corner" was written by Kenny when he was just 17 years old. It was first performed by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in1970 & then by (Kenny) Loggins & (Jim) Messina on their album "Sittin' In" in 1971. Love this duo music from the 70's. I had their albums. They had a lot of great songs such as "Danny's Song", "Your Mama Don't Dance", "Thinking Of You", "My Music", "Angry Eyes", "Watching The River Run", "Vahevala", "Lahaina", "Sailin' The Wind", "Pathway To Glory" etc. In 1994, Loggins re-recorded the song "House At Pooh Corner" (with an additional verse) under the title "Return To Pooh Corner".
My mother played and sang this song when I was a child with her gorgeous voice. She is no longer with us but this song always connects me to her. It's such a beautiful and precious memory.
Ahhh….my heart. The nostalgia is very strong with this one. Like most, it just takes me back to when my kids were little. And they’re all in their mid 30s now. 🥹
This was Kenny Loggins first recorded song (he wrote it, Nitty Grutty Dirt Band recorded it). Disney stepped in, saying it was a copyright infringement, since they owned Winnie the Pooh. Loggins was crushed and later that day told his girlfriend how bummed he was the Disney lawyers shut it down. She said, "Disney lawyers? I'll talk to dad." He didn't know he was dating the daughter of the CEO of Disney.

Prolific and professional, talented more than 99% of the 🌎 🌏 🌍...one of my first favorites, Saw them twice, 1973 and 2000+...Jim Messina both times too, and probably the same show, 30 years apart! Seriously, he was with Jim Messina in several album’s. Mother Lode is great start to finish. However, “Move On” and “Keep Me In Mind” are amazing. Keep me in mind will show depth of feeling and emotions. Move On has a saxophone solo towards the middle that is unparalleled. Top level musicianship.
Off the "Sittin' In" LP in 1971 by Loggins and Messina with an added verse. Saw them live during thier later "Sittin In Again" tour. Simply beautiful song. For a totally different vibe listen to "Angry Eyes".
Mr. Kenny Loggins - another great musical storyteller. If you haven't already, sir, you may want to react to his "Heartlight", a song associated with another lovable fictional character - ET. Even as an adult, I've always loved Winnie the Pooh. My mother had never heard of Winnie the Pooh (I KNOW, right!); but one day, I sat down with her to watch a full-length Winnie the Pooh cartoon movie. Now, my mother was in the final stages of cancer, & she spent most of her time on the sofa in our den, reclining in front of the TV. As soon as the movie started, she started smiling & laughing at the "silly old bear", really enjoying it. She's gone now, but I never see Winnie the Pooh, but I remember how much pleasure such a simple child's toy & a cartoon gave to her. Thank you, sir, for bringing back such a poignnantly sweet memory.
Love this beautiful song. I recently came across a cute video of my daughter and I singing this together when she was four or five. She got the words jumbled and sang "house at Cooh Porner by one..." then she just giggled uncontrollably and soon neither of us could stop laughing. LoL!Memories! Harri, in addition to playing this one for your daughter, play Kenny's version of Rainbow Connection too. She'll love that one as well.
Maybe the sweetest song ever written. Every parent should listen to this with their children. Read the book to your child first, then have them listen to the song with you.
