    What I like is the way you try things... it's easy to go mainstream for likes but doing what fires your soul makes it interesting. I hated the rat Triumph but still watched and enjoyed the vids, every bike since that has been awesome in there own way... keep on being you and ignore the haters.

    Nothing wrong with vinyl wrap I guess...but I'm gonna paint mine. Not that I hate stickers...no ;) Looking good. I used round wire brush packed with steel wool for that engine turning on steel. Worked really well.

      Hi buddy, Hope you're all settled in now, and back to the wheel.. Im not looking for a uniform finish to the scuffage, just a mottled pattern that catches the light, and i think this will do it.! Like all paint jobs, it can't really be judged till its finished aye.! chat soon, and take carer.. Del.

    I flap wheeled my new king sportster tank, masked of a design, gave a few light coats of matt black. unmasked then the whole lot was sprayed with a few coats of candy apple red with small gold flake, about 10 more coats of just the candy and about 20 clear. hard to see on a dull day but the flap wheel pattens really show up in the sunlight. Looking forward to see the finished job!

    Hrmmm ... I am not a fan of that look. I like the classic, keep it original, black out the chrome to make it less flashy, look. This scuff idea is taking it in another direction.

    Seems a good idea to wrap the fighter and play with paint on the fx..
    good thing with paint you can strip it and do it again if it dont cut it ...
    so yeah give it a go see what happens after all its supposed to be fun and learning new skills
    last time i did anything like this in my painting days I used a dremmel for control ..then a candy lacquer..seemed to pop..
    any how you just have fun brother ...peace and love 👍🏻☮❤

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  5 років тому +1

      Too right brother, it's just fun experimenting, if you bugger it up, just use it as base coat for the next attempt! I think this really is an old style 70's thing, and everyone is shouting candy colours constantly, but I really don't dig that, you know me, love the monochrome! Gonna seal it in clear, get the bike finished, then see what it looks like later in the season if I can think of something cool to add to it! Hope you're feeling better brother, no more lurgy, take it easy, catcha soon mate, D&Px

I discussed the effect with Mackie when he did the Sportster tins but he wasn't keen in case the metal wasn't thick enough. never would have thought to do that to the fender having the scrubbed look .personally i think your right to only do the top and paint the sides that way avoiding overkill i love the way you dare to do things differently ..another great video keep up the good work team db

    I seem to recall doing something similar years ago using valve lapping paste and using the drill press. Obviously that method only works on flat surfaces.I get the feeling the scuffage wont be on your finished product :)

    Del, do yourself a favor and buy a random orbital sander, you wont regret it (orbital not oscillating, there is a massive difference) , I got a decent JCB one in B&Q for £50
    I get what your trying to do that brushed look done the right way in the right places can look fantastic but its usually done with machine precision and still resembles 70's era artex ceilings IMO, but I am still curious to see how it looks in the daylight.

    Smaller polished circles evenly set using a drill press would give a better result. Gold candy clear base with clear burgundy then lacquered would look good.

      Hi Bradley, the actual paint is 'Simoniz Tough Paint', not sure if it's available Stateside, but I think Rustoleum do a similar range of products, it's a tough, protective, flexible paint for chassis and crash bars.
