  • This short video shows how simple it is to mount an AC for summer camping. I hope this idea generates a starting point for your own project. Keeping cool at camp in the summer can be vital in getting out and enjoying nature in the heat.

Hey man, I have a great tip to share to you why tents gets so hot in the summer and how you can prevent that from happening with no problem while the tent is being exposed to the sun. So what you want to do is replace your darker colour tent with a white tent or for the very least a lighter colour tent that is because white or lighter coloured tents reflect a lot of sunlight reducing heat absorption, causing the inside of your tent to naturally stay cooler. On the other hand, the reason why you would not want a darker colour tent is because they absorb so much heat when exposed to sunlight causing the inside tent to become much warmer. So if you want to keep your tent much cooler for the very most then the white tent will be the answer to all the problems 👍. It is just like how snow keeps the temperature colder automatically because of its high albedo due to the snow being white, so that the heat can be reflected back to space. Combining with that if you use a portable air conditioning in a white tent then the inside of your tent will cool down like twice as fast or more and the cold air inside your tent will last much longer. Thank you and great video by the way 👍.

Thank you for the input! Much appreciated and very valid points. There are a ton of factors that play into tent choice and ability to sleep comfortably. You are absolutely correct though. Personally, the tent I have is the one I use all year around. I've figured out heating, cooling is tricky though, within a reasonable budget anyway. I'll be putting this setup to the test soon so fingers crossed!

Yep that’s a good idea 👍. The story about me was I wanted to see if I can save an igloo of mine that I like to have built every winter from melting in the very warm temperatures because this recent winter was being record warm so what I did was I added 2 white tarps covering the igloo so the white tarps can do the sunlight reflecting instead of the snow getting hit by the sun and melting and for it to provide very good insulation for the cold air that is underneath the igloo to stay. When I putted it to the test the igloo ended up being saved from temperatures that were as high as 21°C which is almost 70°F outside which is basically summer like temperatures and the crazy part was the white tarps that was covering the igloo was being exposed to the sunlight the whole time and it was record-breaking to see how a snow igloo survives such temperatures that were this warm and when I went in the igloo to check on the temperature inside, it was still remaining at 0°C/32°F the whole time which is basically at the freezing mark 👍. So this is how good having white really is at keeping the temperatures cold, it works on anything.
