That’s awesome thank you very much for letting me know! I love trail running! It’s so good to get out in nature and run. Feels so right on so many levels doesn’t it - enjoy 😁🏃🌳👍
HELLOOOOO ASH!! Great to see you posting. I'm a huge fan of the Trail Glove and Vapor Glove. Outstanding trail shoe, and racing shoe! Late in the season (like now) when our trails are the most hard packed, and the rocks are everywhere, we run in the Merrell's or our other favorite, the New Balance Minimus 10v1 (we get original pairs off ebay). As far as distance runs goes: I just ran 2 Rim2Rims at the Grand Canyon. One in mid-August, with my daughter. It was 24mi, and we ran it in FF's. I returned on Oct. 8th and ran it solo, at speed, and that was 26.3ish because I ran it from the North Rim Lodge. I ran it in FF's as well. To me, the Vivo's are too heavy, and too thick, for running. I wear them 9hrs a day on concrete floors, standing at work, and I think they'd make a great backpacking or hiking shoe, but for me, there are better, much lighter, running shoe choices. This just my personal opinion, for what I like in a minimalist/barefoot style shoe. All the best to you and your family!
Hey Todd good to hear from you my friend. Two Rim2rims the heat must have been insane in August! And the decent and accent of elevation crazy! I love running in the VFFs too, have you got the V-Trail? Or do you use the KSO or something else? I really liked the Vapor Gloves as they suit my skinny feet so well, however I do also like the way the VFF splay my toes to give that good stable foot area that is in contact with ground. A lot of it will also depends I suppose on the weather conditions next May. I’d be slipping all over the place in the Merrell VG if it’s raining on the day, or has been immediately leading up to the event, were as the Vivos and VFF V-Trail would have more grip for sure. Nice to hear from you mate, Jodie, myself and the girls are well. I hope you and your closest are all well too 😊👍
@@skinnylegsbarefootshoes These were my 9th and 10th R2R's, and I did have a pair of blue V-Trail 2.0's to try out. Liked them a lot. On the previous runs in the Canyon, I've always worn the Spyridon models. Kate usually wears the Trek Ascents. August is always a great time to run in the Canyon, and we've run all of our R2R then, except when I go back for a solo, always in Oct.
Thumbs-upped when you started giggling on the downhill. Cheered me up... :) Can't comment on ultra trail distance shoes, as I've only run barefoot on roads up to marathon distance, but I'd lean towards the Vivos. Thanks Jason, I had a great run on this one - so much fun. I do like Vivos, the Deacon are a really nice looking shoe. My Primus Trail are also a good looker and have adequate grip for the ultra in May, just the weight is putting me off slightly, I’ll see nearer the time if the weather has been wet I’ll use them for the grip. If it’s dry I’ll probably wear these Merrell 👍
Hey Ash. Cracking video mate. Love the dance at the beginning 😁 Your enthusiasm for running really shines through. It sounds like we're doing an ultra in the same month 👍🏻 I'm using barefoot shoes very rarely now but one of your videos always makes me think about giving them another go. All the best mate 🏃♂️😎
Cheers Mark, yes we’ll both be doing Ultras in the same month by the looks of it 😁 I’m still enjoying the barefoot shoes, think I’d have to retrain my body to run in cushioned shoes. I’ve been watching some Ben Parkes videos and I see him running and it makes me think ‘oooooo just one pair of cushioned runners and I’ll run like him…’ 🤣🤣🤣. Hope you’re ok mate miss your videos? @@skinnylegsbarefootshoes I'm doing well mate, cheers. We're in the process of buying a house, and currently stopping with family so it's been too chaotic to do UA-cam stuff recently. Fingers crossed we'll be moving in before Christmas 🤞
Hi Ash 🙂Really enjoyable vid as always! I've tried a few different shoes for longer mixed terrain runs in the past, with mixed results! The clear winner for me has been the Vibram FiveFingers V-Alpha. I think it is supposed to bridge the gap in the FF's range between their V-Trail and the KSO Evo models and it works a treat. There's plenty underneath to provide protection from sharp stabby stuff while still getting great ground feel, and as for the grip on wet grass and mud....that's just bonkers! They gave me so much confidence to really crack on and have some fun. Keep up the great work on these awesome vids, mate
Hello! Thank you for the V-Alpha recommendation, I’ve seen those on websites lots of times and very much like the look of them, have normally scrolled past as I thought they were more a gym/exercise shoe rather than a running shoe. I’ll have a proper look at them now 😁 Thanks to for your kind words and support TJ I’m glad you enjoy the videos 👍
I started a 50k in xero masa train. I switched shoes only because the course was flooded in the shoes for saturated and I want to put something dry on but they did great.

Been running in Vapor Gloves (v3/v4) for about 3 or 4 years now. Definitely my go-to running shoe. I try to do four 5k runs a week, at least. I run primarily pavement, but I have the Trail Gloves for the occasional dirt run and they hold up so well. I still haven't quite figured out how they absorb a fair amount of shock when there seems to be nothing there, but Merrell did well to make it happen. If I had to run a long distance marathon, I would trust my Trail Gloves to pull through. Great video Ash. Consider me subscribed.
Hey Julien thanks very much for subscribing very much appreciated 😁 and yes the Vapor Gloves are fantastic shoes to run in. They were my first venture into barefoot running shoes and I still compare every new shoe to them. You must like them running in them so much 😊 I’ve not tried the Trail Gloves, but did try some GTX model from Merrell a while ago. I really enjoy how minimal the VG are makes them such good fun to run in. I did a 10k run/race in them today and felt superb - video on my experience in them coming soon.
Well the whole idea behind barefoot running is to bring back the foot's natural ability to absorb shock so that's what you might possibly be feeling. The shoe should only give protection against scratches, cuts, etc, but the foot does the absorbing and propulsion part. People who wear modern cushioned running shoes lose that ability. See Dr. Mark Cucuzzella "train your springs". I'm sure he's not the only one out there but that's a great resource.
@@andreionisie168 Thanks so much, I haven’t heard of Mark so I’ll check him out. And yes the Vapor Glove are the most minimal running shoes I have, in terms out outsole and feedback. I have just bought a pair of sandals so might do a bit in them as the weather here warms up too 👍
@@andreionisie168 Thanks for the input. My legs have definitely gotten stronger over the years. I don't know if I could ever go back to a conventional running shoe.
Hey Dean, I love the Vapor Gloves for road running, they fit my foot shape really well and feel great. Also liking them on this trail run too - great fun! @@deanb61 Congratulations on the stand-alone marathon, I remember from a while ago you commenting do half marathon in barefoot shoes, and I think you do triathlons too? It’s a different kind of running a road marathon, rather than trail running and alike. Was the Yorkshire marathon very hilly?
@@skinnylegsbarefootshoes yeah, mostly I'm a triathlete (well a cyclist really). I've done a few half's and one full distance (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, full marathon).
