Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊You got it, they are Japanese (but none of their own songs are in or related to anime) and started as a fusion of JPop with Metal in 2010.
No you will not hear them growling ... some songs have growls and screams but those are on backing track with any additional instruments like piano, strings, synth etc.
BABYMETAL are lead vocalist Su-metal and in charge of "scream & dance" (ie backing vocals, harmonies and doing the bulk of the dancing and hyping the crowd) Moametal and now Momometal.
The original third member Yuimetal last performed in October 2017 and after a 12 month absence for undisclosed health reasons she decided to leave the band in October 2018.
Su and Moa continued as a duo for the next 4 or 5 years through to and a bit beyond their 10th anniversary supported by any one of three dancers (the Avengers) in the third spot. Just one of the dancers (Momoko) was left supporting them sine mid 2020 and on 1st April this year she was finally revealed as the official new third member now known as Momometal.
They formed in 2010 as a sub-unit of a JPop Idol group called Sakura Gakuin which was formed by the Amuse Talent Agency to coach and train about 10 or 12 of the most talented girls aged between 10 and 15 in all aspects of entertainment (singing, dancing, acting, writing, modelling, stage management, TV presentation etc) with a view to the girls choosing how they would like to start or continue their career when they reached the age of 15 and left school.
In 2013 after Su-metal's 15th birthday BABYMETAL separated from Sakura Gakuin to become an independent band and they have gone on to be the most popular and successful Japanese band internationally.
BABYMETAL are like nothing you will have seen or heard before, they don't limit themselves to any one main style or genre and you won't be able to pigeonhole or put them in any one box like you can with virtually every other band in the world, they are one of a kind and they invented their own genre and style that nobody has been able to copy successfully (some have tried, none came close) including bringing choreographed dancing to metal (but not as you might know it from pop acts where it is nearly always used just to fill the stage or give you almost naked girls (and boys) to look at to take your mind off often bland music).
BABYMETAL's choreo helps with interpreting the song - a lyric or the meaning etc, but it is designed to involve and lead the crowd, to give them their cues when to jump, shout, pump their fists, chant and so on. BABYMETAL are complete masters of crowd control and crowd involvement.
They are supported in live shows by the Kami Band - some of Japan's very best session musicians, each one of them a world class instrumentalist. They were phased in gradually from October 2012. BABYMETAL had started in 2010 with little or no budget so they sang to a backing track at the start and when they started doing their own small shows guys in skeleton suits (known as Babybones) would pretend to play the instruments.
Kami means god or spirit, so in the BABYMETAL lore they are the gods of guitar, bass and drums summoned from the dead by the Fox God to support BABYMETAL - as such they originally wore traditional white burial robes and corpse face paint. At the end of 2017 the robes were changed for black robes and since 2019 the face paint was replaced with masks (nearly everybody wants the face paint back, or for them to just get rid of the masks).
From their first appearance in October 2012 the Kami Band played at a couple of festivals and the encores in some shows and became the full time support for all live shows at the start of 2014 and have been with BABYMETAL ever since - but only for live shows, they do not record the studio versions.
In 2019 the Kami Band of the West (American musicians) were introduced and they have been supporting BABYMETAL on their more extended foreign tours since then.
In 2014 they started to tour outside of Asia and Japan for the first time coming to Europe and the US and since then they have won new fans all over the world and become internationally the most successful Japanese band ever and one of the very best live bands on the planet right now - their 3rd album released in 2019 was the first by any Asian group to reach number 1 in the US Billboard Hard Rock charts.
They have nearly 70 songs now, every one of them is different (and if you want something technically impressive try 'Tales of the Destinies'). They have songs in virtually every metal genre but will mix in other musical styles and genres with the metal, often when you least expect it. Some songs lean towards their pop roots others are just good hard metal and they do everything in between - so if you don't like one song no problem - try another, the chances are you'll love it.
For another reaction I would suggest one of their earliest songs and their first appearance in the UK - the song is 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' live at Sonisphere 2014 - they were virtually unknown, aged 16 and just turned 15 in a country where they didn't speak the language and faced with over 50,000 UK metalheads they had to try to win over. This was the last of their 5 song set, you can hear what the crowd thought of them at the end as they walk off stage.

Babymetal invented this type of group. Nobody did choreography to metal before they did. They started in Oct 2010 when the girls were 12/11.

@@HitPlayWithKay Their first music video 'Doki Doki Morning' was shot only a year later when they were 12/13. Their producer 'Koba' did a great job getting great songwriters for Babymetal. Their songs were all really well composed from the start. Doki Doki Morning is underrated and 'Headbanger' 'Megitsune' and 'Ijime Dame Zettai' are early songs that are widely considered among their best. I saw Babymetal in Seattle in Oct. Megitsune and Headbanger were both performed.

Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal journey.🦊🤘🔥
Nice reaction, I'm glad you got this suggestion, pretty soon you'll get a lot of BM fans flooding in your comments to help you out with everything about them, but let's start with some basic info about them.
BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old when started this and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal (kawaii means cute) mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms. The name is a reference to a new genre and not related to their ages or "baby" faces, is a pun intended play words with "heavy-metal" which sounds similar to "baby-metal".
    They are:
*SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 25, this month she'll get 26.
*MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 24, next December 20th she'll get 25.
*YuiMetal* scream and dance, former member since 2018.
*MomoMetal* scream and dance, she's 20 and is the new official member since April 1st recently.
    None of them are related.
After 2018 you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of them are official members, they don't sing, only dance, but that status change recently like i said.
This song was part of the Babyklok Tour in the US and currently at the Europe & UK Tour, everyone love this song and are having a blast with the girls performing this.
    About this song:
This song belongs to latest album The Other One but it wasn't part of the 5 singles released prior to the album release, although it becomes one of fans favorite from this album real fast.
The nasty riffs reminds to "Ice Nine Kills - Rainy Day".
Maya in Hindu myth is the representation of illusion (which is the theme in this song), so that's the reference.
    Here's some official info:
    MAYA
    (ILLUSION)
_Reality is an illusion. The truth may be a deception._
_It is a feeling as if you wandered in between the Real World and the Virtual World. It may be magic, or it may be an illusion._
They got several excellent musicians since 2012, some inactive, some actives, started with a set of elite Japanese musicians called Kami Band but now they got another different set since 2019 and playing in this World Tour.
The Western Kami Band playing this live at PIA Arena MM (April 1st) gives some aggressive flavor that i really like and with MomoMetal now officially as a new member, just so you know this was performed during Black Night (that's why they're wearing the old battle dress from Metal Galaxy era and she ain't got a mic), at the end of this night she was announced as MomoMetal, the night after this (Clear Night) they're wearing the new costume you can see at Mirror Mirror, METALIZM official MV and more recently Divine Attack - Shingeki live version.
If YT allow me, I'm gonna leave in my next comment where to get safe clips to react since sometimes is very hard to watch some of their vids.
You were really funny with you reaction so I hope to see you around soon with more BM songs. Next suggestion to meet something from early era when they were young and using some growling, not them, they don't growl:
    - Catch Me If You Can with Kami Band intro live at Budokan 2014, Guilhermicait got this clip safe to react.
    See you next time!🦊🤘❤

Here's the list of live performance clips usually safe to reacts without any filters so you won't need to rely on live compilations, there might be some exceptions:
      - Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! live at Legend 1997, SuMetal 16th Birthday in 2013, they got MV of this and is fun, but live is a blast.
      ua-cam.com/video/LNFiDWJh2FA/v-deo.html
      - Akatsuki, live at Budokan 2014, this is a SuMetal solo.
      ua-cam.com/video/g2372C5PJLM/v-deo.html
      - Megitsune, official MV is my first recommendation but is usually blocked if you don't put filters, so if you want live and safe to react, check it out Budokan 2014.
      ua-cam.com/video/dU38CYkpBvI/v-deo.html
      - Akatsuki Unfinished Version, SuMetal solo again but with only a piano behind special performance at Legend 1997.
      ua-cam.com/video/nwsinmxTxbo/v-deo.html
      - Babymetal Death, live at Legend 1997, this is the big finale, you're gonna blow your mind with this one.
      ua-cam.com/video/jRc9dbgiBPI/v-deo.html
      - Catch Me If You Can with Kami Band intro live at Budokan 2014.
      ua-cam.com/video/ng8U_j0gpLI/v-deo.html
      - Ijime, Dame, Zettai live at Sonisphere Festival 2014, sometimes the official live MV isn't so friendly so you know what to do.
      ua-cam.com/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/v-deo.html
      - Rondo Of Nightmare, with Mischiefs Of Metal Gods Intro live at Budokan 2014, another SuMetal solo but way different than usual happy songs.
      ua-cam.com/video/8WBDiLMNZcE/v-deo.html
      - Doki Doki Morning, official MV, their very first song and MV full of kawaiiness, usually is safe to react so try it, if you want a live performance, this is the first proshot version with the Kami Band live at Legend 1999 (YuiMetal and MoaMetal 14th birthday).
      ua-cam.com/video/BSjv9OYtWZ0/v-deo.html
      - Uki Uki Midnight, this one is a follow up to Doki Doki Morning but way different sound, this is the PV, is super fun but the sound isn't so great but at least is live.
      ua-cam.com/video/Yj-UQIlqsIQ/v-deo.html
If you want better sound with the Kami Band, then live at Budokan 2014 it is.
      ua-cam.com/video/ESzY9dL613Q/v-deo.html
      - Onedari Daisakusen, live at Legend 1997, this is a Black Babymetal song, is a subgroup with only YuiMetal and MoaMetal.
      ua-cam.com/video/1dT1ywYR5So/v-deo.html
      - Iine! again official MV hits way better but if you want live, here live at Budokan 2014.
      ua-cam.com/video/5sCvYVNeD0w/v-deo.html
      - Karate live at Download Festival 2016, "kitsune6001" got this with a short interview intro.
      ua-cam.com/video/FKOL6v3Md2c/v-deo.html
      - Road Of Resistance live in Japan official, this one is easily to find but be careful with the blocked by putting some filters just in case.
      - Kimi To Anime Ga Mitai - Answer For Animation With You, live at Budokan 2014, not sure if it's still safe, so try some filters, if is audio blocked try to mute or just cut the parts.
      ua-cam.com/video/M8FKumvh-w8/v-deo.html
Here's a song you can find at Babymetal Reactor Resource (BMRR), a helpful place to get watermarked logo clips of the original live version to curve the annoying algo.
      - GJ! live at Wembley Arena 2016, another Black Babymetal song.
      ua-cam.com/video/Hg0Rylcg8F0/v-deo.html
This is BMRR short vid to follow instructions and get the spreadsheet with the full list.
      ua-cam.com/video/q40VmTHSh4c/v-deo.html
And here's a BM guide (the long one).
      ua-cam.com/video/gDne0xwniTg/v-deo.html
There's a more recent beginners guide at "Briaghh" called "So... What is BabyMetal?" is more short and with some fair update until this year unlike the other one.

Hi from Ireland great first choice, I suggest one when Su the lead was 16, road of resistance live in Japan, you will get flooded with requests but stick to the live, all awesome, some are not to enthusiastic about a few songs they feel too cute like gimme chocolate, although it helped launch them I did notice some reactors making this their first, turned some off, without them checking others, some of my other suggestions would be monochrome live, bxmxc live, headbanger live, but others will guide you to more, stick it out and be prepared for a growing following.

That was a really enjoyable reaction. I'm so glad you ended up with the live version of MAYA for your introductory listen. Babymetal is a fascinating group with a fascinating-and involved-history. They have taken the lead over a decade of paving the way in particular for many Japanese female metal bands. It is truly a legitimate genre. This is a quite recent performance but should you take a dive into this "foxhole" you will-among many other things-with two of the current young women doing their thing as early as 11 (Sumetal-lead vocals) and 10 Moametal (singer/dancer) on the right. The other original band member Yuimetal left in 2018 for unspecified health reasons. Now filled in by Momometal on stage left. Again this was such a great song to experience the group as they are now and really liked getting to vicariously share in your discovery.

among the Japanese female metal bands the Lovebites also deserve to be listened to, even if you won't find the growl in their voice, but the singer is still very valid and powerful, but their real strong point is the incredible talent of their musicians, The two guitarists are unique, their solos are really impressive, the drummer is a war machine, always fast and precise, and the bass lines are also of a high standard, I recommend them to you, all their songs are of high quality in fact I don't even know which one to recommend because I don't have a favorite but I have at least thirty favorites 😅
…. Keep listening to all these Japanese bands, they are all very good, you won't regret it, all these girls are badass and brought a breath of fresh air to the metal scene ❤️

Nice reaction. Welcome to the foxhole. It was different. Oh you don't know the half of it yet. Every song they do is different from the one you just heard. And yet it retains the overall Babymetal sound. Mostly due to Su-metals clean vocal style. Their music is known as Kawaii Metal. Which a Metal bass with Jpop style vocals on top. But that is the basic version. In most cases you will find there is a lot more going on than what you may have heard on the first listen. And they don't stop with just mixing the musical genres. Their dance style is mixed right along with it. I usually suggest starting with them near the beginning. First album songs. That way you can grow with the band. Literally since they started so young. Recorded their first songs as Babymetal when they were just around 12 for Su and 11 for Yuimetal and Moametal. We can go into more details about them as you travel down the Foxhole. Enjoy the journey through the foxhole and into the Babymetal galaxy of music. See You.

Babymetal is a band or idol group that does not apply the GROWLs or SCREAM system like metal in general, but they prefer to sing in a clean vocal style. However, they succeeded in making a new breakthrough with an alternative metal genre called kawaii metal (cute metal) which gave birth to several other musicians such as passcode, lovebite, nemophila, hanabie and many more. and it was babymetal who first popularized it in 2010. You could say babymetal is the mother of the kawaii metal genre even though its members are still relatively young. but the group is already 13 years old

BABYMETAL is a Japanese kawaii (cute) metal group (a metal subgenre that they created) that formed in 2010 when the 3 girls were 11-12 years old (yes, they were very young), and since then have performed with, toured with, or opened for Metallica, Korn, Sabaton, Bring Me The Horizon, Dragonforce, Guns N' Roses, Lady Gaga, Rob Halford of Judas Priest (there's a great youtube video of their performance with Rob at a metal award show), and Red Hot Chili Peppers (there is a youtube video of them performing Gimme Chocolate with RHCP, as well as with Korn, and DragonForce), to name a few of many. They have performed at large metal events/concerts in front of 65,000+ skeptical metalheads in Europe (Glastonbury, Download, Sonisphere, etc), US, and Asia. They are the first Japanese band to perform at Wembley arena in the UK. Also, 20+ awards have been given to them. They have 60+ songs and each one is different from the other, so I hope you give the other songs a try. By the way, they have some really great heavy songs too, and I hope you like guitar solos, as well as bass and drum solos, like I do, because they have them too. Also, they are currently on another world tour that included many dates here in the USA, and released a new amazing album just a few months ago! They also just released a new music video for their song called "Metali" that features Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello.🤘🦊🤘

BabyMetal actually helped inspire the creation of a slew of female Japanese metal bands, and they are all excellent. Su never growls (though, god, I wish she would just a little) but the newest member, Momo, has a smol growl in live performances of Metali. There are growls in their other songs, but not done by the girls. Maybe Momo is going to change that? (I hope so). Nemophila, tho, is a female Japanese metal band with excellent growls. And they are also fans of BabyMetal and have even done an amazing cover of them. Welcome to the fox hole. 🤘🦊🤘

I'm sorry!! I just assumed you already knew about BABYMETAL . That's why I've never mentioned them before. They blew up HUGE back in 2013 with their song Gimme Chocolate. Nobody had ever seen nor heard a group like this before. Their fusion of J-Pop and Metal and the fact that the girls where so young at the time was vary different. Two of the girls where only 12 years old and one 15. Hence the name BABYMETAL.
If its hard core growls from an all girl Japanize band your looking for You have to check out "HANABIE" - We Love Sweets !! They through down some real hard core Metal with deep guttural growling fused with girly J-Pop vocals.
For a vary different style of screaming you've never experienced form an all girl Japanize Metal J-Pop band definitely have a listen to NEMOPHILA / DISSENSION. This band consist of some of the absolute best female musicians in Japan. Pay attention to the guitars as well. Those girls are insanely gifted musicians.

The music video for 'Gimme Chocolate!!' was filmed at the LEGEND 1997 concert on December 21st, 2013.
That was the day after Su's 16 birthday. "1997" is the year she was born.
Both Yui and Moa were 14 then.
Yui and Moa are both about a year and a half younger than Su.

Welcome & Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。BABYMETAL performed in your county, Canada, in Toronto and Vancouver during this year's North American tour with DETHKLOK (29 gigs).
BABYMETAL is the best musical phenomenon I have ever experienced in my 68-year-long life. (Before BM, I was a stubborn jazz / funk lover) We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.)
Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

That was an awesome reaction! Hope you do more! You'll be getting a new sub if you do! Anyhow, they're known to mix things up. They love mixing genres and seeing how to make these fusions of music work and they are very good at it as you saw. In terms of growls. If you want to see asian ladies growl, then I can name you 2 Japanese bands with growls. Both are female bands too, so extra points for that for you :) First band is called Hanabie. Second band is called Nemophila. Both are pretty good bands, although I prefer Nemophila personally. Another amazing Japanese band is Wagakki Band. They don't have growls, but they DO fuse traditional Japanese instruments and Oprah singing style (sorry I forgot what it's called) with modern instruments. Really cool band. Something I really dream of seeing one day is a Babymetal/Wagakki Band collaboration. I feel that would be epic.
Anyhow, I think you'd have a lot of fun checking out their really old stuff when they were super young. These ladies (now they're ladies, but when they first started they were literally just little girls lol), started this band when the lead singer was only 14 and the 2 dancers were 12. If you want to see that, then look for the oldest version of their song Doki Doki Morning live. You'll get to see how young they were and where their genre of metal came from (Kawaii Metal). Also, yes, you are 100% correct. They are Japanese. You're one of the few that called them Japanese and not Korean lol

This reaction was fun to watch, thank you! I hope you take the time to react to many more Babymetal songs, they are quite brilliant. If you are interested in an asian female band that includes a growling aspect, can I suggest you check out Hanabie? I don't want to suggest anything that would detract from more Babymetal, but Hanabie is also just brilliant and... there may be growls. Subscribed, fun thanks!

    👍 👍
BabyMetal began in 2010 there were Suzuka Nakamoto age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno. Both Moa and Yui were 11 years old All three girls were friends and classmates who attended an idol group (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life (they attended regular school as well) the girls would learn and train at vocals, dancing, public speaking and etiquette, etc., graduate at age 15 and then move onto whatever entertainment path they chose or that suited their talents.
Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result.
At first Amuse showed no interest and the girls had only financing from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues). Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia).
If you choose to explore more of BabyMetal I suggest reacting to LIVE performance videos as this is where they shine.
They have over 60 LIVE songs/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres and have the respect of the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and more.
Avoid Glastonbury LIVE performances as the sound production by the BBC (who was in charge of that festival did a terrible job - mics not turned on, incorrect volume levels, etc.)
Suggest reacting to these HQ Pro Shot videos of LIVE performances for a start.

Yui Mizuno left BabyMetal in 2018 due to health reasons and at their concert in Yokohama on April 1 it was announced that a permanent third member Momoko Okazaki (who is also a graduate of Sakura Gakuin and has been appearing with them LIVE since 2019 after Yui's departure) has officially become the third member.
Their new album in my opinion that released March 24 is amazing with so many different styles.
Good luck and hope to see you again.

Very nice reaction! I'm glad you liked the song. The girls do not growl and I'm happy they don't. Too me it's kind of over done. There are a few singers that do it well and it sounds convincing but, most of the time i find it to be forced. Kind of like it's done because well, it's metal and that's just what you have to do. Plus, I've never been a fan of female growling anyway. That's just my opinion of course. 😅
