Of course everything in this video is just my opinion. Feel free to respectfully leave your opinion in the comments :) By the way, I will continue my reactions to Sakura Gakuin and Japanese music soon (Probably at the start of the next year), so feel free to post your music suggestions here.
They should have stopped in 2018. Su would be a solo artist and I'm sure Moa would have found something to do as well. Maybe something with Yui. Why? Because Babymetal can't go on like this forever. Moa will soon be too old to just jump around Su, like when she was a teenager. If she had a bigger role in the group, it wouldn't be so bad, but she doesn't. Let's say she stays for 2 more years, until her 26th birthday, and then leaves (or the management simply disbands the group due to Moa's age). Su will be 28 years old. And I know she's already well known and people (including me) love her, but starting a solo career after what she's done for so long is going to be very difficult, if not impossible. If they had disbanded when Tomato chan left Babymetal, she would have been a solo singer for 5 years now, and tbh, Yui's departure wouldn't have hurt as much. In 2018, many people decided that Babymetal was over and left. I think the original idea is long gone and I can't get used to the new setup. But it looks like Su is back to normal (?), Moa is enjoying herself again (?) and the band moved on with Momoka. To me Babymetal is only Babymetal with Yui. But that's just my opinion and I don't ask anyone to agree with what I think.
This is a nice video, I think the latest album they had released as mentioned in interviews doesn't say anything about their direction. Metali exists to show we can still write the audience participation 'party songs' like Megitsune, Headbanger, Pa Pa Ya, don't worry if The Other One had none of such songs. The Other One was an experiment to see if a more serious topics Babymetal is also possible and it clearly can be done. But they will always need these audience participation 'party songs' as well. Metali also proofs that. 2:25 I think it's important to remember, Babymetal would have developed further even if Yuimetal was still part of it. 3:11 I would go further Moametal had to grow fast into being the leader of dance that Yuimetal was and Moametal improved a great deal. This wasn't the 'carefree' Moametal of the past anymore, this is a Moametal with a huge number of responsibilities, she taught or trained with all the other ladies who have been on stage in 2018, 2019, 2020, etc. For example during the Avenger period Moametal had to train each song 3 times as many times as the others, so they can perform in sync when Moametal is on stage with one Avenger. Now they can all 3 breath again, less stress (they know all the songs, they are already in sync, they don't have to focus on the next (much) album yet, etc.), just focussing on performing (a LOT), building up their fan base even more. You can see the relieve, Babymetal is 3 members again, stronger than ever (physically and mentally, they know they can handle it) and their uncertainty if Momometal would be accepted by the fans is gone...
Cool to see you around with your thoughts on this new BM era, still disappointed you didn't share any of the songs of latest album TOO, not even METALI!!, but i guess you were so busy with your own things. Anyway I'm happy for you having fun and enjoying the live shows in your own country. Kitsune up!🦊🤘🔥
Good to see a video from you again. Babymetal are definitive on their 2nd peak with their 2023/24 tour after their first peak in 2015/16. They seem so much happier and free on the stage compared to their live performances between the time Yui left and the pandemic. For me Momoko is no replacement for Yui, it's like they said a new Babymetal and I can't wait for all the great things to come in the future like Legend MM next year.
Welcome back.🦊You are right that BABYMETAL are at their peak ... but it is just the most recent peak. They have reached many peaks in the last 13 years, each one higher than the last. Only The Fox God Knows just how many more peaks they will achieve and how much higher they might climb from here on. Yui leaving changed the dynamic of course and Moa stepped up her game most admirably as she had to teach all the choreo to the Muscle Metal dancers, Saya, Riho, Kano and Momoko and she had to adjust her own dance from one show to the next to suit whichever of them she was performing with, but I very much doubt Yui leaving made any difference at all to the direction BABYMETAL took musically. Metal Galaxy would have been Metal Galaxy. Koba has said The Other One is a sort of interim project and not the 4th BABYMETAL album as such, so I don't think we can assume to know where they might go next based on the 10 songs on the album. Now we have the new trio, the new BABYMETAL with Su-metal, Moametal and Momometal (and yes she worked hard and deserved her place and she adds another new aspect with her personality). As has been the case right from the start with BABYMETAL, one of the main constants ... expect the unexpected.🤘
I am not a metalhead. I am Japanese, but I was never interested in idol songs of Japan, too. On the contrary, I rejected almost all of Japanese rocks / pop songs from the 80s onwards except for a few favorites (I was really a nasty kid, lol) and spent decades listening only to certain my favorite Japanese jazz fusion and Latin jazz fusion. But one day suddenly, I became a big fan of BM and I am not sure why. I even looked back and objectified myself, wondering why... I knew it was the opposite of everything I had denied. First of all, Su-'s vocal excellence, and I think it is one of the best of any singer of her age in all music genre of Japan. And her cuteness (now beauty), even as an idol, it is outstanding, to say the least. I might be misunderstood by everyone, but to put it honestly, we have many singers in Japan who are just good singers. But she is beautiful on the outside too. And Yui & Moa's cuteness can not be compared to other Japanese idols. They both have great talent too, Yui's dancing, Moa's singing and expression, all outstanding. Then BM combined real good music with the three. I really think it's nothing short of a miracle. So it's no surprise for me in a way that the later 'Cute Metal' (I really don't like the term much, though..) hasn't been very successful. It's so unique. It was also good that Su-'s aesthetic matched the metal in a way. In one radio clip, I have heard that her sister Himeka said that Su- preferred chic clothes, saying. Finally, about Momoko, I guess it was a good idea to put the Avengers period for a time. I think everyone was convinced to accept her. So please react to Momoko's video from her Sakura days! BM has been keeping evolution, not peak now..
Hey! Great to see... well, to hear you again. 😁 I 100% agree. The original concept of BABYMETAL had the days numbered, mainly because it was a crazy idea and no one expected it to last so much (except probably for Koba... but his thinking is different from everyone else's). Setbacks and mistakes happen. So, evolution was required (some "die-hard" fans seem to not understand this). About Momoko, her decision was the hardest and the bravest decision ever made (given what happened in 2018). But the reaction of the crowd when she was finally announced as an official member was priceless to the point they admitted to be surprised about that. And I'm very happy for her. I still have chances to go to see Legend MM... I guess that proves my point. 😁 I hope to see you soon. 🤘🦊
Few things: - First of all, nice to see you around again! - Second, it's pretty ironic that the title is 2023 Peak, and in the Thumbnail there is the old logo and a picture with Riho instead of Momo 🤣🤣 - Third: it's true that The Other One lost almost all Kawaii, but the song "Metali" gives me hope for more to come! It's the Kawaiiest they have been in years!! I also think their peak was in 2015, but now they are doing still pretty well!! :)
This was a lovely, respectful, well considered appraisal of the journey Babymetal has taken us on. And the parallel journey they have been on. You explained so well what I've always believed since I first saw Babymetal. These are dedicated, courageous, incredibly hard-working, talented artists who have done nothing more than bring music and joy to-probably-millions of people at this point. As far as accomplishments are concerned that's pretty damn good!
They came to my country for live concert literally two years in a row! (2023 & 2024) Literally no other major, international pop, rock or metal act did that, as far as I can remember for the last decade. Shows their dedication & appreciation for the fans!
I think Kano also did a great job as a supporting dancer. Her last BABYMETAL performance as an "avenger" was at LEGEND - METAL GALAXY on January 26th, 2020. She did manage to appear in three official music videos for BABYMETAL. And Riho was an exceptional dancer who appeared up to February 13th, 2020 at the Cologne, Germany show. Still, I think that Momoko was a great choice for a new permanent member. She definitely earned the spot.
Babymetal is a fantastic meeting of talented people and I believe that nothing would have been possible if Babymetal had seen the light of day elsewhere than within Sakura Gakuin...a big thank you to them 🌸🦊🌸
Even though, I listen to Babymetal almost everyday. Their live shows are just the best and the togetherness of the crowd with the band ( I really mean all the band, the Kami band and all the production that the band entails), is just so overwhelming good. That when you're in a show no matter from what music genre you come from, can be jazz, rock, metal, pop,... or whatever. We're the One. Let's not forget the sheniningans they pull on stage even hough is never something crazy, they are there for the crowd and I mean with all their hearts, and that completes the heart of a concert-goer. That's my personal opinion, plus I agree with almost or maybe even evrything in this video. Good job, let the Fox God be with you
You explained their continuing appeal well. I feel the Other One is, song for song, probably their best album. Best live experience in music today, hands down, and by the end of the year they will have played around 90 gigs, way more than any previous year. Momoko deserves special mention cause she is beyond wonderful and has worked very hard to provide the balance that the original trio had. More than anything, the world REALLY needs the light only they can provide. I’m still somewhat in shock that I FINALLY had the opportunity to see them live, and I will be forever grateful that in times of darkness and despair I can count on them to help me through.
Great comment, I completely agree with your words about Momo. And you saw them live, that's amazing, I'm a latecomer and hope they'll come back to London soon 🙏❤️
Babymetal is pure serendipity. So many moments of happenstance had to occur for them to be what they have become. It's hard not to think that it was destiny.
I love Babymetal, they make really good music in my opinion, saw them first in 2015 live in Germany and just a few weeks ago in Berlin again, it was just great, can't wait for 2024 \m/
BM are definitely stronger and more balanced with Momoko and if Metali is anything to go by they have lots of great music in their future. However, the chemistry between BM's original trio and the Kami Band from 2013 to 2017 was special. The energy of Su, Moa and Yui, BBM, Su solos and the solos of the unmasked Kamis produced some spectacular performances. BM is different now and they are great, but if I want to be really excited by a performance I still go back to the pre 2017 era. For me The One was an improvement on Metal Galaxy and had some interesting songs so BM are going in the right direction and maybe with the next album BM will produce something to beat their previous highs - I hope so just for my own enjoyment.
I don't think BABYMETAL is a their peak. The Other One is "not considered" as a true BABYMETAL album as it is part of the metalverse. We could see the difference of the songs from The Other One and the release of Metali. In Metali the fun was back and BABYMETAL has much more to come I'm sure. The next BABYMETAL album will be a true BABYMETAL album hopefully, but I guess we'll have to wait and see. They're on their way to their 15th anniversary...will they perform a 20th anniversary show in 2030? I would love that!
Yes. And ... maybe. It's absolutely true that TOO is to be considered an experiment, something unique, yet, after listening to that concept for months, after watching the live performances of those songs, TOO is arguably their best album so far, it may have lost something on the kawaii side of BM, but it's nonetheless daring, and it has an incredibly positive attitude, it totally belongs to their vision. So yes, their next album is going to be more like an evolution from Metal Galaxy and Metali! points in that direction, but TOO will be a milestone in their discography IMHO. 🤘🦊⚡️
They have two peaks I think. 2013-2017 & 2021-2024, hopefully longer. Hopefully many more years for great Babymetal! 2018-2020 decline/stagnancy was due to Yui's departure, Mikio passing & Covid (none is their fault).
Its crazy to think this group that has been around more than 10 years is a veteran of Metal music when they are only still very young at mid twentys. Their last album was just considered a 'Concept" album and I still believe they will get even better in future with next official full album. So I can't even imagine thinking they are at peak yet. Their fans during recent U.S. and European tours have been showing up big time even rivaling Japan fans which is crazy. And selling out huge venues shows they can probably do a very successful stadium tour soon. Maybe that will be peak. Only the Fox god knows.
This a cool video and you put your opinion in a very respectful way unlike other "fans", however there's 3 things I think differently or completely disagree. 1. BABYMETAL always proved to be a Heavy METAL band, some old people with their block minded mentality just didn't want to recognize it lol Karate for example even with the Kawaii signature is literally pure Heavy METAL if you take that aside. 2. They didn't abandoned their Kawaii roots, they are just older now and exploring different interpretations, gestures & art to not stagnate at always doing the same Kawaii stuff. Mirror Mirror and Metali are the perfect example of that. 3. This is just another of their peaks lol BABYMETAL itself in their craft is already the actual peak.
Babymetals absolutely 💯 of other greater successful rivalry of the eye of the tiger rising up Song!! known as the emortal talent! The four ever rising talented ladies of Japan.🇯🇵 Passcode for epicness or Passcode ladies band. Has the loudest wicked super Apex noise ever made!! Of lovely perfection of total greatness performances skills!!👏 so careful when you are putting your head phones well playing their music lyrics!! Because you would be absolutely surprised an shocked 😲 how loudest they are!! My great information for today. Have a great fabulous wonderful day.😀
100% objective, cuz you really think so. This is an oxymoronic statement. Ive seen too many crowds straight up failing, if I'm to believe peak Babymetal wasnt Sonisphere or Download. Let alone the Tokyo Dome. Mikiyo is dead, Yui is off in space. Im not disappointed in Momoko...im disappointed in the fans.
I can understand people not liking Babymetals music but if you can’t at least appreciate them and the talent of the group/band as a whole, you are simply dead inside. Metal elitests really need to broaden their horizons as the style they cling to will simply disappear one day. And yes.. Momo will never replace Yui.. She is an awesome successor 💀
I disagree, peak BM is still 2015-17. 2023 is their post 2017 peak for sure though. There are a lot of somewhat debatable differences between the two peaks but the biggest one for me is the songs themselves. The Other One is easily their worst album musically and it lacks the unique fun personailty live of the first three albums. I recently did a lot of driving where I had time to listen to all 4 albums in their entirety back to back to back to back. I listened with a totally open mind to compare them and TOO is by far the least interesting or well written album. It has a few decent tracks but nothing elite and a lot of songs that are very mediocre. So even though their current tour is great and they are performing well. This era does not exceed their best era of 2015-17. And that doesn't even account for things like the continued reduced live presence of the kami band live.
@@Tyyppl yeah I saw them in Seattle. I'm not saying it's gone. I don't think Babymetal works without it. You're just a second rate Nemophila then. Being an inferior version of a less popular group is not a good strategy in my opinion.
@@Dragon-Believer The Kawaii factor means different things to different people. For me being more personable on stage and interacting with fans is the definition of Kawai. But it's in a more mature manner rather than (what some would say) is being childish. Today we're seeing a BABYMETAL where their personalities come to the fore and they feel able to deliver any kind of music they want.
@@jaglemans6778 I'm talking about the Idol elements. I think a lot of people say they don't like the Idol part of Babymetal but that is a load of BS. Why be fans of Babymetal then? There are thousands of other metal bands. That is like saying I hate peanut butter but Peanut Butter Cups are my favorite chocolate. I wish they didn't have peanut butter. If you take the Peanut Butter out it's a chocolate bar. Those exist. If you like Peanut Butter Cups better than Chocolate Bars it's because of the Peanut butter. If you like Babymetal better than metal bands it's because of the Idol.
@@Tyypplyou can't take the Kawaii out if the girls but they took it out of the music. Moa and Su and Momo being entertaining and cute on stage is not relevant if you are listening to a song driving your car. Thats the difference.
@@makesmewannadie647 Acting cute on stage and stuff, childish you know? that was the original concept of babymetal cute girls in heavy metal style but as they grow older, they don't usually act like children anymore, wich as I heard was a problem to koba-metal
Hmm i actually would love for them to still act cute but of course only if they feel comfortable. Thats what i like about kawaii culture in japan. Older women also participate in it and it may seem weird for foreigners etc. But its A fun Lifestyle. I am a 22 year old girl and i also like to pretend i am a kawaii girl although it may seem cringe or problematic to people my age. Its a preference i feel comfortable like this so. I hope the girls just do what makes them comfortable. In the end we are all here for the music and oh the amazing choreographies. One thing i hope for them Not do become is too "sexy" to be honest. Thats what im never interested in within groups (i mostly Listen to female jpop groups). I feel uncomfortable watching sexy performances and sometimes that also seems as forced as the cute stuff. Considering they already have a dominant male fanbase their safety would be more at risk. I have seen the nastiest shit online there are some guy Fans who edit the girls into po*n videos😭 i wish koba saw them and deleted them. As everyone Else made them aware of it and told them to stop doing this they just ignored us 🤢 i hope the girls never see those stuff! And they also have many male Fans from the age they could be their fathers!
@@makesmewannadie647 PEOPLE DID WHAT?? EW WTFF understandable, they really should not act "sexy", I think they should just act like they are, but forcing them to act in a unnatural way seems not too nice tbh and yeah, sadly their fanbase is really full of men in a older age, yet i think it's still fun if they enjoy babymetal in the normal, not creepy way.

👍👍👍The ladies are energized and happy!! 🦊 🖖❤
🤘🦊⚡️
Really good video!
They've been at their peak since 2014 imo
👍 👍
That's an opinion. I've mostly lost interest since The One came out. Hoping for a return to "fun" times and metal songs that slam all the way through
Was Metali "fun" enough for you?
Baby metal is the #1 band of all time and they are just going to get bigger.. gotta love them 😊 Babymetal4ever
lmao
I can understand people not liking Babymetals music but if you can’t at least appreciate them and the talent of the group/band as a whole, you are simply dead inside. Metal elitests really need to broaden their horizons as the style they cling to will simply disappear one day. And yes.. Momo will never replace Yui.. She is an awesome successor 💀
Wow great commentary! Agree 100%! Super excited to see what’s in store next from them!

Taking out the Kawaii from Babymetal and being a regular metal band is a downgrade in my opinion.
Have you seen any of their shows this year? The Kawaii factor is definitely still there.
Thats the difference.
i remember when i saw on Reddit that koba wanted them to not act as their age, so i really love to see them how they developed in such a great way
What did He mean by that?
@@makesmewannadie647 Acting cute on stage and stuff, childish you know?
that was the original concept of babymetal
cute girls in heavy metal style
but as they grow older, they don't usually act like children anymore, wich as I heard was a problem to koba-metal
Hahahaha very long Text i just wanted to rant i hope you will read this ❤
@@makesmewannadie647 PEOPLE DID WHAT?? EW WTFF
understandable, they really should not act "sexy", I think they should just act like they are, but forcing them to act in a unnatural way seems not too nice tbh
and yeah, sadly their fanbase is really full of men in a older age, yet i think it's still fun if they enjoy babymetal in the normal, not creepy way.
