I actually really liked the interviewer, she kinda looks like she doesn't really know a lot about the band or the music itself, but she looks legitimately interested and like she's willing to talk seriously,
This is why deftones are the best and one of the most unique bands on the planet. They don't care what people think, they just make the fucking music that they want. They don't do it for the cash and they don't sellout like most bands. Deftones forever!
myself, and a couple of band members from Blackseed waited all night after their show at the Corner..which cost 17 bucks by the way..and we caught chino on his way out of the cosmo in St Kilda, right before this session, now,..we had been up all night..and chino came over and hung out, met Chi as well...and man..just super guys, they smashed the Corner hotel the night before..like SMASHED IT! very cool memory, and then they went and did this....point being..they are fucking awesoome...and i have the memory seared into my brain..for eternity
Wow this is incredible archive footage for Deftones fans that grew up in Australia in the 90s. For anyone bagging the interviewer; the show they appeared on, Recovery, which broadcast every Saturday morning in Australia, was well known for asking bands odd questions in interviews. Credit to her, she nailed the Vans Warped Tour suggestion, as they would later return to Australia to feature on it.
That chick is crazy as hell and those guys look like they really do not want to be there. I loved seeing there faces at the end when everyone cheered. They just looked around and were like whatever.
Actually, Stephen always said he was going to be a rock star....but definitely wanted to do something different. It was a result to listening (and liking) all types of music. He was just a kid like all of us and having fun....and it worked.
Look at how young they look ha and to think they were already together 10 years. its kinda funny that theres all these kids thinking deftones is this newer band and their more than 20 yrs old.
I remember when Stephen told me about her label, Maverick, checking out their demo. I still have that original tape. The music was pretty mellow compared to what they released, but it was still hard.
Man wtf, it's been 10 years on this interview since they started with the band, and just like, this isn't even the start of everything, I mean, fuck, just two albums and ten fucking years of existence, and like, at all are 8 fucking albums, oh my god, it's been a long time and that wasn't even the beggining
No not really. He's always been pretty mellow and takes those things in stride. He really hasn't changed too much. He's acts the same when you're around him with a group of friends.
well i don't know why they'd be annoyed to be there other than the fact the program was on at a really early time. recovery was the shit, they always had awesome bands performing. not to mention the fact it was on a non-commercial channel. nevermind the strange hosts.
I agree with you. I mean, in the interview he did mention that they formed just to play music. The label thing was incidental. Deftones aren't rockstars and everyone knows that.
so if it was mentioned here that deftones has been together for 9 years and this video was shot somewhere aroun 1997, that means deftones, currently has been around for almost 20 years now. omfg.
Okay yea she is a little... different, this is just Aus TV back then in general, look at some other interviews of the time, but guys she didn't say long-balling, she said lawn-bowling, and no that is Around the Fur, Satirday Night Wrist is one of their most recent albums, either you guys know as much as her or yall all high at on the Deftones Hahahaha, I couldn't blame you, rock on
lol I watched this when I was putting my socks and boots on and eating my milk on my milo when I was 7 wish i was born like 5 or 6 years earlyer and shit.
After Stephen corrects the interviewer for a 2nd time you can tell he's instantly become annoyed with her by the way his leg starts shaking. I can relate to that feeling so well. You're in a circumstance where you have to be civil but the person you have to be civil towards is a complete moron and what you really want to do is get up and slap some sense into their pathetic and idiotic empty fucking skulls. I'm not sure how I would handle this situation if I were famous.
Uumm, i'd say that he's just pumped after comming off stage...... I've done enough product testing dont you worry, but i just think that he's just pumped.
I grew up seeing recovery reruns on the tv when i was little in the early 2000's, so I get the alternative thing they went for, but this woman, who i've seen on something else but cannot remember for the life of me what it was, seemed pretty oblivious to everything. Mispronouncing Stephen is okay, it's an easy mistake to make, but then taking the piss out of them, then laughing about max cavalera after hearing about the song about his step son dying, she could've at least made herself a bit more familiar with the band, listening to just a few songs, before making fun of them
Deftones were signed to Maverick Records, a record company founded by Warner Music Group and co-owned by Madonna. The company folded in the mid-2000s and all of the bands on that label, including Deftones were taken over by Warner directly.
I actually really liked the interviewer, she kinda looks like she doesn't really know a lot about the band or the music itself, but she looks legitimately interested and like she's willing to talk seriously,
I will say that she’s at least better than a lot of these interviewers today that troll and bash the people they’re interviewing...
Dudes weren’t huge yet at that time. They were blowing up but still had some more to go
Which is where White Pony came in, and it was done deal.
Anyone know if she’s still around?
@@Chris24_ Her name is Jane Gazzo. She worked as a presenter in the UK a while but I heard she is back in Australia.
It's incredible how his voice never changed. He sounds exactly the same now, except for screams of course.
Nah he sounds more cholesteroly now then he did in the 90s to like 2013
@@herniagaming lmao

Interviewer: Does Madonnna have any hands on the record?
Chino: Yeah, hands on my, I was like, “what's up?”... Nah...
Hahaha
3:04, sorry
To anyone saying this girl is dumb... You have to watch more interviews from the late 90s hahahaha.
That just means they're all stupid and obnoxious.
@Don Lowmer I didn't remember this comment - but I agree
myself, and a couple of band members from Blackseed waited all night after their show at the Corner..which cost 17 bucks by the way..and we caught chino on his way out of the cosmo in St Kilda, right before this session, now,..we had been up all night..and chino came over and hung out, met Chi as well...and man..just super guys, they smashed the Corner hotel the night before..like SMASHED IT! very cool memory, and then they went and did this....point being..they are fucking awesoome...and i have the memory seared into my brain..for eternity

What a great! artist.

FreeMTrider you're mentioning the demo for "like Linus" or something else?
Man wtf, it's been 10 years on this interview since they started with the band, and just like, this isn't even the start of everything, I mean, fuck, just two albums and ten fucking years of existence, and like, at all are 8 fucking albums, oh my god, it's been a long time and that wasn't even the beggining
Lmao the end is so awkward.
No not really. He's always been pretty mellow and takes those things in stride. He really hasn't changed too much. He's acts the same when you're around him with a group of friends.

I agree with you. I mean, in the interview he did mention that they formed just to play music. The label thing was incidental. Deftones aren't rockstars and everyone knows that.

My last name is a flex
He seems a bit shy.
Chino himself has said alot of early music was about his "insecurities" (Shyness).
I also noticed that about him. He's a awesome person.

@1jaredjacobs Haha yeah no problem. Either way that interviewer was kind of...I don't know, really uninformed about the band and kind of annoying.
Yup, pretty sure.
MADDONNA OWNS DEFTONES!?
Deftones were signed to Maverick Records, a record company founded by Warner Music Group and co-owned by Madonna. The company folded in the mid-2000s and all of the bands on that label, including Deftones were taken over by Warner directly.
