40:1 is all I will use in all our equipment, as a small engine mechanic I don’t have time to replace piston and cylinder on my equipment 😊😊😊

So the 40:1 is equals to how many teaspoons per liter?

I run this exact oil in my sons motocross bike and have done in all 2 strokes iv ever owned with this stihl bottle you really can't go wrong it tells you all on the bottle as stated by Jimmy the mower! Very clear video!
30 years ago I as extra income did a lawn mowing round with a whipper snipper. The mowers were 33:1 and the trimmer 25:1. I have some stresses now and being older find petrol mixing on 2 strokes hard. Your video has helped me understand portioning to correct mix. From Australia, thanks mate.

Thanks for this Jimmy! Wish you PDF files with ratios was in SAE units though. You know the US went to the metric system I think in the late 1970's. I believe Jimmy Carter was the president. We haven't got there yet! 😕

Another straightforward and easily explained video. As battery tech and equipment continues to improve I wonder how much 2 stroke kit will still be used
I think we have probably got about 10 years maximum of 2 stroke machines and then it will all be battery powered.
With solid state battery soon to be on tap, electric motor will be better.

40:1 & a much happier motor that will last longer saving the cylinder & piston rings
40:1 even on break in?? I just bought two phantom True 85s cc engine I dnt want to blow it up two other engine blew up but the one was my fault I was killing it lol it over heated and rings got to hard and broke
I have never been advised to add extra oil to run in an engine

@@JimmyTheMower yea they suggested 25 to 1 and then 20 to 1 but I really dont think that's rite but yes will seemi sent them clips of how this dude did heat test with a heat thermometer gun and in his chainsaw he did 25 to 1 and tried 50 to 1 there was a 6 to 7 difference I believe it was 50 to 1 was the cooler

Jimmy my chainsaw has always run on a 25:1 ratio, so I've been using a standard to stroke oil, If I changed to a sthyl oil would I still mix the same or mix at the 50:1 ratio as stated on the bottle? Cheers Wayne
Hi Wayne, you will still need to run it at 25:1 or whatever the manufacturers guidelines are.

They are pretty much the same thing but I would use proper motorcycle oil to be on the safe side.

They vary so much from engine to engine but my default would be 40 or 50:1

Looking on the forums it seems to be 30:1 with modern oils in those engines.
Love that i can get the pdf as i have been a little bit confused. Mine is a Suzuki 50:1 portable generator. However, what i am confused about is the specific kind of oil to use. I'm ignorantly using a HD40 oil at the moment but not sure if i am doing the right thing.

So recently bought a brushcutter that says 25 to 1 on the instructions but the mixing bottle that came with it goes up to 500ml with the ratios 50 and 25 marked, I am assuming that if it's 25 to 1 ratio I'll have to mix 14.5ml or 2.94 teaspoons per 500mls is this correct.
Yes that's correct.
If you put the fuel in the bottle to the fuel line then you should only need to add 14.5ml of 2 stroke oik to bring it up to the level.

Hi, I’ve a 98cc Yamaha 1989 two stroke motorcycle and I’m adding 30ml per litre in city ride, is that okay?
My son has a honda cr85 motocross bike and we use the stihl oil in that the top ends seem to last a hell of alot longer and run very well on 50:1 with the exact same oil in this video hope this helps.

Hi how do i mix 2% of 2.8 litres 2 stroke in one of them mixing bottles I can’t work it out.
That works out at roughly 18ml of 2 stroke oil in 1 litre of petrol 👍
You’ve got the big bottle. I got the little bottles with the snap off lids.
What can I do if I don’t use all the small bottle? How can I preserve it ?
Most of the 2 stroke oils these days have a fuel stabiliser in.
However, you could always put some film wrap over the top before snapping the lid shut and that should help you get a better seal.

As the petrol on U.K. forecourts is now E10 with 10% ethanol it is noted that ethanol absorbs water which limits the shelf life of mixed fuel. Is it advisable to purchase the higher octane E5 petrol for 2 stroke engines which has no ethanol or would you recommend using E10 only?
We only use E5 in our small engines. That's 2 stroke and 4 stroke versions.

I have just purchased replaced an old McCulloch blower/vac with a Stihl SH 86 C-E just for seasonal clearing leaves from my property. However, I want to ensure that I use the best oil and fuel and keep it well maintained.
I read an online article which suggested not to use E5 as it can cause starting issues, rough running and overheating. In other comments it is stated that using super unleaded premium fuel is pointless and that Stihl small engines are designed to use ethanol based fuels up to E25 spec which contains 25% ethanol.
My thoughts are that by using non ethanol fuel with Stihl fully synthetic oil would extend the mixed fuel shelf life? I know Motomix apparently last upto 5 years which is essentially the Stihl Ultra oil and fuel🤷🏻♂️
I’ve also heard that the ultra oil can cause flooding problems and that the Stihl Super semi synthetic oil is a better choice🤷🏻♂️
We use the blue/green super stihl oil in all of our 2 stroke machines.
The E5 fuel can burn a little bit hotter but unless you are using the machines for extended use 3 or 4 hours at a time I can't see it causing any problems.
Our stihl blowers are used on a daily basis and have been for around 3 years each without any breakdowns.

I’m going to try the E5 97 octane super unleaded petrol mixed with Stihl Ultra. Any mixed fuel should last the leaf drop period over the autumn months.

I got one of them bottles but when i fill it with 1 litre of fuel and then measure out 40lm of oil to get 25:1 ratio when i tip it into the fuel it doesn’t bring it up to the 25:1 mark what am i doing wrong
Either the bottle is out of calibration or the 40ml measure is incorrect.
My money is on the bottle being out of kilter 👍

ive read that using these plastic mixing bottles is ok for a while, but after some time they expand, which means you are then going to be getting an inaccurate mix?
They are good for a couple of years......
The expansion is caused by fuel expanding and enlarging the bottles.
Happens to all plastic fuel cans, regardless of size.
I use 25 ml Motul 800 off road 2-stroke oil per 1 liter Gasoline. 40:1 mixture
Does the same life span of a month go for E5 or even E10 fuel?
It can last a lot longer but just to be on the safe side I like to get it used up within a month.
You can buy fuel stabilisers which supposedly make it last longer.

But lots of other brands sell 2 stroke oil to mix with petrol 👍

I think it will need more than that.
If it runs on 50:1 it will require 120ml per 6 litres.
You need to find out what ratio of oil mix it requires then look at the "free stuff" page on my Jimmy the Mower website to find out exactly how much you need.

By adding 100ml of oil on top of 5000ml of gasoline makes it a mix that contains 100ml/5100ml x 100% = 1,96% oil

Everyone saying 40 :1, cradle to grave??? My 85cc 52 mm piston engine the manufacturers are not the manufacturers the outlet stores telling me 25 to 1 for break-in and then 20 to 1 after 1 gallon of breaking?? I don't know what to do and I don't want to blow up my engine

I have been asked this a few times, I think I will make another video and another chart.
You say it lasts a month in the mixer bottle. If you’re bad with dates, how can you tell it’s no good.
The smell changes, however with the stihl oil and a good vapour lock cap it should last a lot longer.

If you can't mix oil without a video guide you shouldn't be using power equipment.

There's plenty of people who can't remember the ratios or can't work out a ratio for a new piece of equipment.
We all have to start somewhere....
just got my first chainsaw, it a stihl 170. There is a sticker on the saw that says use 20ml stihl branded 2t oil or 40ml local(usually means unoriginal/cheap/non-genune) 2t oil for 1 liter of petrol. The dealer(verifed dealer of husqvarna and stihl) didnt had any stihl 2t oil in stock so he gave a husqvarna hp 2t oil instead.
What is more confusing is the price of the 2t oil and if the oil is genune or 'local' , the stihl one goes for around 6$ a liter so does the husqvarna one. I searched for 2t oil on stihl and husq sites and was shocked to see the high price(around ~35 usd for a liter). I live in asia so maybe thats why the price is low.
I mixed 13-14ml of 2t with 500ml of petrol to get 40:1 and am scared to run the saw as i dont wamt to ruin it.
Should i go ahead and use this composition or double up the 2t oil eg. 25ml for 500ml of petrol

Too much oil is better than too little oil. Especially if you are on the first few tanks.
However, I would get the dealer to mix it for you so you know exactly how much to use in future.
