The series is based in space primarily. And will be combat based.
Starting from vanilla space pod.
Attacked early on by space pirates.
Quickly dispatched, and recycled.

I sometimes will connect to an enemy battery with blocks then switch my batteries to recharge. That way I drain what I can from it since you don't get power cells when breaking it down.
Ahh actually the space pod is plumbed all the way back to the 02/h2 gen so you can just deposit into the cargo container and it will pull into the survival kit. There is a port on the bottom of the hydrogen power generator. You can also grind the blocks under the cargo container and o2/h2 gen and tuck the basic refinery and assembler in there.
Hi. I haven't played SE, but after watching a few vids, I did wonder about that.
The game looks interesting.
Then you stick a drill on the survival kit and you're golden.
You can put the stone in the container at the back rather than going in and out of the ship.
Those sliding doors on the starter ship are scary, my only death in the learning to survive tutorial scenario has been getting chopped in half by the cockpit-side sliding door.

With all the drones buzzing around the area. I would try to capture them as intact as possible & merge the big grid ship to survival pod. Sticking a drill to the front of the survival kit would upgrade mining operations however considering the “free” drones I can acquire in the vicinity, I could amass much more components than mining itself. Free stuff like that don’t come along so frequently in every play through. 😊
You can connect a battery with either a connector, rotor, hinge, or merge block, set it to discharge, after it is empty grind it off. That is how to harvest batteries. To harvest tanks is very similar, use a connector and set your tank to stockpile to drain the contents of the enemy tank, when empty grind it down. They did this with batteries to stop you from exploiting free energy from them.
try ctrl-Z to match vectors with those drones: it's easier to land on them that way.

The hydrogen engine has ports on the end and the bottom, the bottom one is connected to the cargo container which in turn is connected to the o2/h2 generator.
idk why i couldn't realize at the time. the engine was in a different orientation in my head, than what was actually there. must've been stage fright or something. lol

I'd have personally merged the larger ship to the R-Pod, to add planet landing capabilities with all those hydro-thrusters, and additional cargo space, or mounts for your drone scrapyard.
Either way, I've learned a lot from this session, some of it refresh. Overall a very good tutorial.

You got lucky with all the SPR ships. Sometimes I go for hours without seeing any. Although I probably would have merge blocked those larger ships onto the survival pod for batteries, hydro thrust and tanks to supplement the ions. Not a lot of solo SE content out there these days.
you can load the stuff you've drilled into the rear storage container - it's connected to the Survival kit.
Surprised to see you hand drilling right at the start.
I remove the right hand window and place a ship drill right onto the survival kit, first though because of progression, scavenge from the ship itself for the components for the small grid landing gear, grind & rebuilt the control seat to unlock the drill, then scavenge the components for the drill.
Except for the speed, the basic refinery is not good for stone, you get less ingots than you do from the survival kit.
You did not need that antenna on the ship, you would have used the antennas on the drone's attached to your ship, your suit will automatically piggyback off any aerial in range.
Next time this happens with the drones, try and get a better grinder built asap. I found that works wonders for hijacking just about anything. RUST freighters also make excellent targets for starting, as they rarely, if ever spawn drones in response, and recycling just one will clear your tech tree at least, let alone the resources and salvage.
I tried space pod start with the modular encounters mod... ITS IMPOSSIBLE! Like you have 5 to 10 minutes till the first "corrupt" ships start attacking. And then there are also pirate corvettes like everywhere... I tried going to the moon one attempt to try and outrun them and mine there but nope, not enough time for that. I haven't found a way yet
The reavers mod is another really challenging one as well.
You can start the game withought the mod get basics done and then edit save and introduce the mod like that you can have a go at it
