Hands Off Yes and no. Arcadia Bay was inspired by Tillamook Bay. There’s an episode of the game they showed the Arcadia Bay’s ZIP Code and putting it in Google Maps, it shows Tillamook Bay. But, yes, the fictional town’s style was based in multiple towns in Oregon.
The Blue Moon diner, the diner the Two Whales was based off of has those 2 items on their menu And the owner, sometime around LiS’s release, literally changed their slogan to “Welcome Time Travellers”
@@_EllieLOL_ I know I'm a year late, but if you put their name into Google, first result is indeed "Blue Moon Diner - Welcome fellow time travelers!" There is also a review from "W. Graham" hmmm

I actually just got to do that, dressing as Chloe *in* Arcadia Bay! It was such an awesome feeling and experience, though unfortunately nobody got the reference. Video on my channel! ^_^
Holy shit!?!? I stayed in a hotel there on the coast last summer because we were visiting my mom's boyfriend's parents on the way to Springfield. And it never even occurred to me that the game took place in a real world location.
Dude imma cry.. i just wish i could move to garibaldi oregon in a snap. Small towns like those are one of my comfort places to live in. Wish max and chloe was there..
That's awesome. I wonder though if there are teenagers living there you. Sometimes these small towns have basically only elderly people living in them. It might be interesting to interview the teens living there on what it's like growing up in a town like that. I wish could move to Oregon in general but especially a small oceanside town like that.
Warren tells Max there is a drive-in just 60 miles away to Newberg, OR. If Garibaldi is supposed to be the real Arcadia Bay, then it's 84 miles to Newberg and not 60. Yet many fans of LIS have stated Tillamook, OR is the closest you'll get to the real Arcadia Bay which is 74 miles to Newberg making Tillamook 10 miles closer than Garibaldi. Then again, Warren could be 10 or 20 miles off. So who knows.
Or maybe they just fudged with stuff a bit to avoid making it exactly on a real life place..? Tillamook is a much larger town -- I don't think the game would be based on that. Also, there might be some back roads that get you closer (IIRC some of the roads were washed out in the past few years?)
@@enjicooper1779 Maybe. Or maybe someone at Square Enix doesn't know the differnce between miles and kilometers. Dontnod Entertainment is a French is a French video game developer and publisher based in Paris. They have the Metric System so maybe they don't understand US customary units.
bro !, my town looks alot like Arcadia Bay ! we even get the same vibe. it storms alot here. well i guess some towns i visit sometimes do remind me of Arcadia Bay.
I love living in Oregon, where a small forestry trail is in your neighborhood, a river just a few miles, the coast an hour or two, and even a desert is possible If you’re daring for the drive.
This video inspired me to do the trip myself! It really is such a charming small town, the coast is absolutely beautiful and with so many great nice people too. Now I *really* want to live there some day!
Garibaldi the town probably took the most inspiration, but on a map, Newport looks like Arcadia Bay because its ocean sided and has the famous lis1 lighthouse There is no exact place that Arcadia Bay was based on, but you can say Garibaldi was used for inspiration the most from a real-life standpoint
DQ company bought the name of their restaurant and land in 2010 till now. The restaurant you mentioned at 1:07 was before being named the Oregon Blue Dinner Whales restaurant. Most of the customers there are truckers, they will eat there before going to their destination, usually their destination is very far, this restaurant is their last stop.
I've been there so many times and had no idea that it was Girabaldi that Arcadia Bay was based on! I knew it was somewhere in Oregon but didn't think it was a specific place.
Ah, yes! I thought the town looked familiar from my past trips up and down the coast. I appreciate how they mixed some real places in there: Seattle, Newport, Newberg.. kind of surprised they didn't mention Portland but talked up Seattle (queue Portlandia/Seattle sketches) :D... These days Portland has a bit more grittiness to it than Seattle though, thanks to gentrification :/...
I think I saw Chloe at the gas station. Ok, I am just kidding. Wow! Amazing neighborhood and fantastic video game. I definitely suggest it to everyone...
i heard this game was based on several places in Oregon. But this is so cool. I want to be a millionaire just so I can hire a bunch of professionals to recreate the life is strange map, every place from chloe's house to the junkyard to blackhell. It would be better than Disney land no doubt
Yes its in Oregon but if you do move there be careful, I live up in Seattle and drive thru Portland when I go camping and its been getting worse so if you do move there just avoid portland.
Housing can be pretty expensive and the income tax is fairly high. But there is no sales tax and car registration is quite inexpensive. Overall, prices are pretty reasonable out here, but the housing market is definitely booming. If you can move out here, Oregon is a great place to live. I've lived here for over 25 years and as soon as I arrived, it felt like home. The climate is also very similar to Italy with a mild Mediterranean climate, which makes us one of the best wine regions in the world. If you can find a small city, that might be a good compromise between a small town and Portland. Some good choices are Corvallis, Ashland, Eugene, Bend and Hood River. If you're looking to the coast, I highly recommend Newport, Yachats (very small and quiet) and Canon Beach.
thanks for this video. im on the bonus episode with max and i wondered if it's an actual place. great game, lots of emotions (i chose to protect rachel from the truth)
Same even tho in Life is strange 2 i got sad seeing a sign where it said something like "rest in piece to all the victims in the arcadia bay accident" broke my heart kinda
It looks nothing like Arcadia though. I don't see a school, a lighthouse, a diner, or even water. The mountain is the only thing that kinda looks like Arcadia lol.
Not everyone agrees with me or sees my point, but small towns have certain beauties to them.

I'm trying to plan a trip like this for the Fall this year. But it's a long drive from Chicago, and I think I need actual friends first.
Go alone! More freedom that way (and less embarrassment when you fangirl out over being in Life Is Strange land). ;)
