The aircraft ground crewman with red shirt at 5:44 making the cat claw movement with his hands, he is part of the 13th Fighter Squadron from Misawa Air Base, Japan the units
nickname is "The Panther Pack".
They skipped over quite a bit here. I worked in Hornets for 10 years. the VERY fastest you can get going is around 7 mins from engine start. you have to wait for the INS (navigation system) to get an alignment. that takes around 5 mins. On the carrier when we stand watches with the "alert 5" the pilots prefight, start the engines, do all the BIT checks, get the alignment done, and then turn the engines off and sit in the cockpit waiting for the call to scramble. that shaves off a few mins. This is not something you can cheeze either. without that alignment the jet and its systems have no idea where it is. By the way that is an arming pin for the sidewinder. its a remove before flight flag on it.
USN 87-97 VFA-105 AT2 (AW)
Does the APU need to keep running or do you have ground power to keep the systems on?
@@trottheblackdog great question. For alert 5 we use ground power to keep the INS aligned.
Makes sense. Don't wanna burn fuel if you can help it, and no unnecessary exhaust firing on the deck
@@trottheblackdog correct and Alert 5 is stood every night after flight ops when we are deployed, so you dont want an APU spinning for 12 hours.. most of the time the A5 never launches.
These crews are proud and there's nothing a G.I likes more than competition!
Firing up the avionics and navigation systems are roughly the same between the two jets, the biggest differnce is in starting up the engines. In the Hornet you've got to fire up the APU, then start each engine one at a time. In the Viper it's just one start switch (JFS) and one engine.
Miramar, pronounced: "meer - ah - mar"
Live in 4s ranch so we get f18s flying over all the time and when we’re on the 15 they get so close you feel like you can see the pilots
Spanish for sea view or ocean view
@@troopdog23 esco here. i love driving past miramar haha
You might enjoy the Growler Jams channel. He's a pilot of an EA-18 Growler on an aircraft carrier and he has a cockpit cam and shows and talks about all the different aspects of being a fighter pilot.
Hello, I remember that you really liked the gyrojet pistol. Brandon Herrera did an extensive video on it with slow motion shot. I think you would enjoy checking that one out.
These planes rely on inertial navigation which requires alignment. When using a stored heading alignment (generally used when scrambling, shortest alignment method), the startup would take around 6-8 minutes for both the f16 and f18.
Us air force guarantees scramble alerts have 4-5 mins max for any aircraft to be up. 3 mins if pilot is already waiting in cockpit.
That Hornet said VMFA-314. That is a US Marine squadron. Makes sense because only Marines still operate the older Hornet. The Navy have all moved to the Superhornet.
I am going to assume they don't post times and made cuts for security reasons.
I'm here for the waffles 🧇
You need to try a Game called DCS. You will realize it takes longer to get your Aircraft ready just firing up the engines takes a minute then you have other checks and getting your radar properly adjusted and working.
8:21 .... RMC .. What was your kitno. and Unit details ?
You want to see over the top signals to aircraft then you need to watch videos of the of the “Shooters” they are the last signal given.
Shooters signals are pretty much uniform yes they can flourish, but nothing like the marshalling on the "beach' we can do all kinds of stuff when we are not on the ship where the rules are far more strict.
You should react to U.S. Army 11th airborne division arctic angels next
You need to watch f 16 pilot dodging Sam's over Baghdad
6:31 😂😂
Not Thriller....but "Claws Out"
So many things wrong with this video! Just saying as a Canadian who's actually served in a "Q" on mutiple occasions and actually scrambled F-18 fighters for real as part of NORAD....
This is NOT how you scramble jets, the "Q", the "QRA", alert fighters, you name it.
First, not going to get into details but take whatever scramble time is in the video and add five minutes.
Second, typically pilots are not already suited up. That's crazy! They hang around in an ordinary flight suit. Alarm goes off, they run, they put on their heavy-duty dry suit if flying off a cold weather coast, they put on their g-suit, vest, you name it. Worse if they're sleeping since they're probably in their underwear. One of the ground crew helps the pilot to get dressed the best they can, that's their job. Helmet is in the cockpit.
Third, none of this built-in ladder stuff. It's real ladders and one of the groundcrew helps the pilot to strap-in, buckle up, and take care of the ladder.
Fourth, battery power, APU start, engine one, engine two, INS alignment. Flight control computers have to do their tests. Ground crew has to check for leaks, fire, etc. Missiles have to be armed which you don't see in the video, very important. You DON'T hook up communications to the pilot which would be a total waste of time. It's ALL hand signals.
Fifth, it's gets even worse when you have to abort the jet and scramble to the backup jet. That's even more crazy and actually happened to me once. You can just imagine the pilot freaking out because he's losing time and needs to get airborne as fast as he can.
P.S. As mentioned earlier, it's pronounced "Meer-Ah-Mar, you know, Naval Air Station (NAS) Miramar, fighter town USA. Spent two weeks there in the good old days. Not sure but I think they made a movie? Top Gun? An actor called Tom Cruise? Could be wrong, lol 😁 😁 😁
VMFA 214 during the time I was in was not one of the best squadrons. They could always do the job well enough though. I know we could drop the arming wire and rearm a plane in 5 minutes during desert storm with another 15 minutes for fueling.
Dam I am first this is a first
Remove before flight ✈️
I can tell you have no patriotism or understand what it means to have traditions in the US military its kind of annoying for you to disrespect their hand signals ad downplay them as "sus" or "unnecessary" it'd be best if you didn't speak on things that you don't understand
Can you finish rdr2
The F-16 has a special place in my Danish heart.
Watching these beautiful aircrafts soar the skies in imaginary dog fights from my childhood holyday home and later from my family's home as a teen was quite the experience.
Won't forgot the sassy waving with the wings followed by an actual wave from a low passing fighter jet pilot, as me and my older brother stood in a green field waving white towels above our heads.
Bro respectfully can you finish rdr2 it’s been two years
